20-year-old Spaniard Marc Marquez may not be old enough to legally drink in the US, but that didn’t stop him from taking a couple swigs of champagne as he stood atop the podium in Texas a few weeks ago. He had just finished making history as the youngest rider ever to win a MotoGP race and, as of this post, he has yet to be off of the podium in any of his three MotoGP starts. There’s no question that the kid is something special, and his replica graphic for the Shoei X-12 has been popular since its release earlier this year. Be sure to get in touch with Nathan at 866.931.6644 ext. 809 if you’re interested in one for yourself, and we’ll get one sent your way!

The Alpinestars SMX Plus boots have been a big hit for both street and track riders alike ever since their original introduction a few years ago. They were made even better in 2011, when they received a major overhaul. Now, for 2013, Alpinestars has given them a refresh that focuses on refinements rather than a complete redesign. The refinements mainly center around streamlining the inner heel/ankle section of each boot. This area is where the bottom of Alpinestars’ unique ankle support, called the Multi Link Control System, connects to the boot itself. On the previous model, some of the components protruded slightly, which ran a very slight risk of getting hung up on any parts of the bike. Alpinestars remedied this by extending the molded heel cup up and forward so that a recess could be added for the ankle support. This allows a very clean integration between the Multi Link Control System and the heel. An exhaust vent cutout in the lower, inner side of the heel has also been removed for this same reason, but the second exhaust on the outer side remains. Outside of the refined rear, the 2013 SMX Plus goes relatively unchanged and retains all the features that made it one of the top selling boots of the last few years. Many of the same features found on the top-of-the-line Alpinestars Supertech R make their way to the SMX Plus, only boiled down into a more value-priced design. The exterior leather chassis features leather accordion stretch panels on the front side and on the back of the boot which, just like on Alpinestars leather suits, provide enhanced flexibility without sacrificing abrasion resistance. On one side of the toe box, a dual-density toe slider is included with expanded coverage for the upper area of the toe which is excellent for riders that like to dig into the peg on the inside foot while cornering. Additionally, the sole has a lip on its front edge that covers the stitching that attaches the upper chassis to it for even greater durability. To prevent the shifter from wearing into the boot and increase feel, a rubber pad is sewn in just above the toes. Up at the top of the boot, a large swath of TPU armor wraps around the calf and houses a ratcheting closure mechanism for a secure fit on the rider. It’s also well-padded on the inside for comfort and impact protection. A single zipper on the outer-facing side of the boot has a stretch panel sewn into it to accommodate different foot shapes and the zipper latch itself has a home under the TPU protector up top so that it doesn’t end up flapping in the wind as you ride. Inside the boot, a full-length microfiber liner is both breathable and supremely comfortable. The liner is padded with open cell foam in all of the right places and quickly molds itself to the shape of the foot to provide maximum feel with no discomfort at all. This is further aided by a special tongue with a Kevlar speed lace mechanism that pulls the foot down into the boot for a solid, secure feeling. Everything is sat atop a rubber sole that’s formulated to last. The grip pattern features an even run of rain sipes that provide secure traction on the bike so you can go for it in bad weather without the worry of your feet slipping off the pegs. If you’re interested in a pair of the new SMX Plus boots, or any other Alpinestars gear, you can get in touch with Nathan for expert assistance. Feel free to send him a message through this forum or give him a call at 866.931.6644 ext. 809. You can also send an email to FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM and we’ll get back to you right away! The Alpinestars SMX Plus boots are available in Vented Black (pictured), White/Black, Black/White/Red, Black/White/Yellow, and Non-Vented Black. MSRP $369.95 Ankle support and protection is still provided by the Multi Link Control System, which is comprised of three separate, but integral, parts that support the ankle joint and help prevent injury by hyperextension in a crash. Also note the accordion stretch panel sewn in at the back of the boot. A large piece of TPU armor wraps around the top of the boot. The heel features a replaceable slider at the back and a metal slider imbedded into the outer side. A stretch panel running parallel with the zipper allows for flexibility and a comfortable fit for varying foot sizes. The toe features a dual density slider that provides good coverage and is replaceable.

The brand new Ben Spies III graphic is now available for the HJC RPHA-10 helmet, and you can get yours from Riders Discount. The shell of the RPHA-10 is an advanced composite that combines carbon fiber, fiberglass epoxy, aramid epoxy and organic fibers in a precisely aligned weave that excels in strength, energy absorption and weight savings. HJC calls this their Performance Integrated Matrix (P.I.M.) construction and it saves weight by reducing unnecessary overlap and resin build-up. The PIM shell is not only strong and light, but it is also aerodynamic and quiet thanks to extensive CAD design and wind-tunnel testing. A hot helmet is an uncomfortable helmet, so HJC made sure that the RPHA-10 is able to keep your head cool and comfortable in warm weather. Ventilation comes from two large intakes on the top of the head, and one on the chin. All three are highly adjustable to allow for variable amounts of airflow depending on the conditions. These vents move a lot of air through the helmet without the higher noise levels that can come from some ventilation systems. Inside the shell, the full-removable/washable SilverCool liner helps wick away moisture and features a Gingko extract coating for a natural anti-bacterial guard. All RPHA-10 helmets come with HJC’s newest HJ-20 Pinlock shield and insert for the best in fog prevention. These shields also feature an easy to use center locking mechanism that prevents the shield from accidentally popping open if you turn your head to look behind you or to the sides. If you’re interested in the RPHA-10 Ben Spies III, or any other HJC helmet, you can get in touch with Nathan for expert sizing advice or to place an order. You may not be able to walk into a dealership and leave with a MotoGP prototype bike like Jorge Lorenzo’s Yamaha YZR-M1 or the Honda RC213V of Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa, but you can give Riders Discount a call and have the same suit worn by some of the best riders in the world delivered right to your door (minus the custom fit, of course) - the Alpinestars Race Replica. The Alpinestars Race Replica is the brand’s flagship suit. It is constructed using their premium, full grain, 1.3mm leather for the highest level of abrasion resistance and durability. The leather pieces are sewn together into an aggressive race fit using multiple-stitched main seams that are extremely resistant to tearing. Perforation is abundant on the large leather panels, but it is not found everywhere. Alpinestars carefully thought out the layout of the perforations in order to provide a great deal of ventilation without reducing the strength of the leather by punching too many holes in it. For this reason, you will find that there are no perforations next to the seams, or in high risk abrasion zones. In addition to high-grade leather, a variety of armor types beef up the protection provided by the Race Replica. Starting at the top of the suit, the shoulders have hard, thermoplastic molded shoulder protectors that not only provide a great deal of impact protection, but also vent air through the open channels in the shell. Alpinestars has been involved with top riders for years, and this means that they have a gathered a lot data from numerous crashes. This data, combined with their own research means that they are very familiar with the parts of the body that touch down first and most often in a crash. This is why they beefed up the elbows and forearms by using a seamless leather construction with external PU protectors on top. These take the brunt of the impact and slide instead of catching the pavement. Impact energy is further mitigated by the CE certified armor and energy absorbing foam found underneath the leather. Inside the torso, Alpinestars provides a CE level 2 back protector and a chest protector. The chest also has pockets that allow you to easily add the Bionic Chest Guards if you choose to do so. Continuing down the suit, you will find the tried and true knee protectors that will be familiar to those that have worn the previous generation suit. Alpinestars did not carry these over to the new suit because they are cutting corners, they did so because they are highly effective. External TPU armor wraps around the knee and CE certified protectors with energy absorbing foam backs it up underneath. One unique aspect of these knee protectors is the is the soft grip patch found on the inner surface of each of each leg that helps give you better contact with the bike. All of this protection means that the suit isn't exactly lightweight, but this doesn’t mean it’s uncomfortable. The new Race Replica is a stiff suit at first and many think it is too small when they first try it on, but it stretches and conforms to your body very quickly thanks to the abundant leather and Kevlar stretch panels. Torso mobility is aided by the new leather stretch panels encircling the shoulder and connecting to the collar. These same panels branch off and run down down the side of the body to the waist. The lower body is flexible due to the use of Kevlar stretch material in the crotch and back of the legs, but this ends at the knee. Leather stretch panels take over again at that point to surround the knee armor and cover the entire calf. The calf is another area that generally feels tight the first time the suit is worn, but it stretches to your size quickly. One of the reasons that you find the additional stretch panels in the upper body is the optional Tech Air airbag system. This system is a great piece of technology that Alpinestars has been developing for more than 10 years. It uses sensors and a computer to constantly monitor rider movement so that it can determine if a crash is imminent by recognizing movements that deviate from the norm. In the event that a crash is going to happen, the airbags can be deployed in less than .05 seconds to protect the shoulders and collarbones. The Tech Air Airbag system is not available through dealers at this time and must be purchased directly through Alpinestars themselves. The Alpinestars Racing Replica suit is the best mass produced suit on the market, whether you use the airbag system or not, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. You can inquire about yours by getting in touch with MIKE through the forum or by calling 866.931.6644 ext. 804. If email is more convenient for you, feel free to send one to FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM and we’ll get back to you right away! This suit is available in Black, White/Red, and the Black/White/Yellow shown here. MSRP $2899.95 The front of the suit is perforated heavily, but it is broken up by solid sections so that it doesn't reduce the strength of the leather. Notice how the perforations don't reach the seams. Leather stretch panels make this a flexible suit and give the additional expansion room necessary for the optional Tech Air Airbag system. The collar is soft for comfort and it lets air flow right through it. The hump also catches air and sends it down your back to help keep you cool. The forearm features GP-style protection through the elbow, plus a seamless piece of leather that covers the padding underneath. Shoulder armor serves double-duty by protecting and channeling air into the suit. The knee armor serves a dual-purpose as well. It not only protects, but also helps you grip your bike. The grey portion shown on the inside of this knee is the softer grip pad.

Here’s a look at the black version of the Spidi Carbo Track gloves. The Warrior Tech Armor on running down the outside of the hand is silver on this model, which gives them an interesting look compared to most solid black gauntlets.
