250 miles on the Voyager. I believe the BMW has spoiled me. That Kaw rides like a jackhammer if the road isn't perfectly paved.

Fucking ruined me, you dirty Krauts.

The day you bought that virus of a motorcycle home I told you it’s going to eat up everything. I told you you were going to sell every other motorcycles :) and never look at other motorcycles. Your now a swan motorcyclist. Monogamotorcyclist :D

I've been super impressed by BMW's adaptive suspension.  It feels comfortable, sporty, and planted all at the same time.  It soaks up the bumps  then sticks like glue in corners...other bikes are usually one or the other or a compromise.  It's confidence inspiring and the lack of getting bounced around prevents fatigue.

I really wanted to own one with active suspension, when ever I had rode rentals always been impressed by it. One of my biggest weakness/fear is uneven pavement or irregularities could never managed to pick speed or rhythm in there.

  3. Pauly you said some thing gold. VA/WV weekend or 3 days trips are double bang for buck than gap trip. Plus no one has to trailer, cheaper stays and far less crowded,  all within riding distance even for the “luxury” rider.  Now that’s a solid plan and very good one at it. Let’s make it at least twice a year :)

  4. thank you for all the kind words gentlemen and ladies :(

Its like the day was perfect, ton of motorcycles outside and weirdly a beautiful perfect motorcycle day despite the  lockdown and pandemic  and felt sad as today was winding down.

its like only few more days left and i wish to ride with as many of you on as many ohio roads as possible.  Even if its just 8-10  hours away that i am moving i cant see a scenario of coming back to ride here again ever.

I am even trying to be my old self again from 8-10 yrs ago with that baby enthusiasm of saying hi to all new riders, waving down random riders, showing new riders around, and trying to bring more people in here. Hope this place stays active and busy forever.

Nice 300 mile run to the bucket with the wife. Did not stop at the bucket, it was packed full of people.

if i knew you were heading that direction i would have warned you, saw the big ride planned in multiple online community to ride to muskie, as if all of a sudden ohio motorcyclist discovered the muskie :)

always a pleasure to ride with you.  If you ever get a half day at least during work day let me know. We can do quick loop of close by roads. and i promise i wont experiment with county roads lol .

@NinjaDoc can you comment on if the health systems are overloaded with COVID-19 patients.

I feel that in Ohio it really hasn't had much of an impact and there is still plenty of capacity.

I know places like NYC and New Jersey the hospitals are at capacity and if you did have an off that required care you would 1. be taking resources needed to care for COVID-19 patients and 2. increasing your exposure to the disease. In Ohio it seems that would be much less of an issue.

The area I cover at least is not In panic stretched  staff and system, ER is not flooded than usual, floors are less crowded since non covid cases drastically dropped. It’s like people finally decided to take meds on time, not skip dialysis then show up at er or simply not just walk into hospital on a whim.

but if you have to end up going to the ED from a get off, you can almost guarantee yourself your getting it.

Again as I previously mentioned I don’t know the right answer, scratch that right answer will be don’t ride but it’s not the perfect answer. During these stressful times riding is the only thing I look forward to, riding is the only way to attain nirvana without bothering others directly.

  7. I been struggling with this question a lot. As with most questions in life the right answer lies in a spectrum between “ride” - “never ride”  But to be 100% honest and truthful I would say - don’t ride. But life is not black and white like that, it’s a grey zone and every decision we take has tons of factors to consider. I looked at it these ways to come up with my decision to ride ( mainly because I am overwhelmingly biased towards motorcycling)

    1. DONT-  if you have high risk factors that can lead to risky case of covid don’t for your own personal safety.

2 DONT - if you have high risk family friends living with you or who interact with you constant basis

3 DONT - if the area your residing and traveling is high impact zones with high risk exposure, stretched healthcare system etc

All other aspects wise there is almost no interactions with rest of the world for “our” style of riding. For the whole day at best two card swipes and handle touches at gas station and that too gloved and stuff. PPE wise we are doing the top lvl coverage. Infact we might be least risky compared to folks going out for shopping walk or run during these days. The hospital system at least that I cover is fairly stabilized since most other cases almost completely disappeared. Even heard some colleagues mentions census went down in some areas to the point they had to cut back on shifts etc,  so whole heartedly I convinced myself in the very odd rare scenario of a get off I am not making things worse. For sure not the surgical ortho guys who are just chilling now. I justified myself the risk is almost comparable to the risk of day to day activity of 100 other people driving to work etc.

Any ways, despite me trying to convince myself the answer remains - don’t ride, but we are only humans and we are flawed.

  8. I am off to Raleigh NC :)

will see you all during the annual gap trip Ed get a trip worthy bike instead of restored classic.

yes, UP I still remember those days from 10 yrs ago. Showing up to ride with Nike shoes and Levi’s jeans and people looking at you funny. Lol lot of squids on forum and showing up for ride and crashing out those days. :)

i was in Michigan only 2 yrs came right back to Ohio when I had the first chance to move. This time I am biting the bullet and going to experiment a different world. Mainly for future  of my son.

  9. I truly hope OR gains life back, we don’t appreciate the culture of safe riding we cultivate because it’s like second nature to us. But when we say, all riders show up atgatt, bikes are well taken care of and prepped, people know the pace, they carry stuff for emergency, we ride 350+ miles all twisty, these concepts are like alien to most average riders while it’s just habit to us. I wish we are able to stay open and kicking so as to impart this culture to many up and coming riders. I know for a fact I am a 100% better rider because of OR and it’s riders and group rides. 👍

I been passively active in some FB groups and Tonit app etc Met feels good riders like that, and met many good riders on the roads we usually ride. On social medial Huge portion of discussion is just bloat and posted rides are crap, just bombing highways, hard parking, or just hitting suburbs and thinking those are back roads. But there are quite a few new riders around who very well could be excellent riders are right fit for OR style riding. May be inviting those good riders to this platform is the only way to get folks in and keep it alive. Search engine and self invitation in here is difficult and only the vary brave internet ride warrior will venture. Let’s be honest we are a clique and a very difficult one because of strong and odd sense of humor and communication style and even harder riding style. Talk about 400 miles loops with 2 stops and not so legal speeds. Ain’t no body can jump into this right away.

anyways good luck and hope to see this place survive since it affect new riders survival, I truly believe that.

This Worries ^ So you’re saying sorry if I breathe I spread it .i do service calls on rentals  i will only go right now  if i have to . i just got back from Fixing a Sump pump that caused a flood in a house that they said 3 of them have been sick a month  . got it fixed & Disinfecting anything i Touched  in my truck dropped my clothes on the deck jumped in the shower. I’ve always took care for years cleaning myself up with rubbing Alcohol in my truck after Service calls . I can’t find Rubbing alcohol anymore been using Dish soap it’s a pain but I hope it works . but now i have started Disinfecting my tools & my truck  I don’t know what else I can do ?. Can’t let people go without water or heat or flooding

Medicine is always risk vs benefit, even just taking a Tylenol has risk vs benefit. You doing the right thing, no need to worry. You have to take care of responsibility which there is no other solution. What is shunned upon is Gang of people just hanging out and spreading stuff for non life essential things like may be spring break. Protect your self as much as you can, wear mask and gloves during house visits etc. despite this , if you start to have symptom rest up heal up and don’t go out anymore for calls.

but Sometimes I don’t know the right answer, I might be biased as well. As in I am critical of people are traveling via planes and mass transit for non essential trip etc, but what’s essential is an undefined entity.

If you ask me I will say for sure motorcycling is a safe hobby to pursue now( as I said I am biased)  ( the classic OR rides) since minimal human contact, minimal socialization, minimal gas stop, high quality all the PPE all the time, but some others might point fingers at that and say don’t do it.

The reusing of PPE and using "construction" grade N95 bothers me. How could we run out of mask or gloves?

I will NOT donate blood or platelets if the nurse is reusing gloves.

Don’t worry As of now we have enough gloves and stuff no worries there, just the masks and proper PPE. Plenty of rubber nobody uses it that’s all whtr it’s gloves tires or life itself.

  12. Don’t take this as a critic against the country, but high time our priority is reorganized.

it’s amazing that we are spending 2 trillion on military equipment and fighting a war Against an Imaginary enemy some where that nobody wants and nobody wins. Throwing all the young men and women of the future on to that shit show only for them to return older and broken both in mind and body. Then the audacity to ignore them and then use them for votes and image building.

mean while the next generation of enemy is not imaginary but invisible like a virus that’s going to eat away our very existence both in our real life and virtual world. Funding should be throw into research science both medical and other higher end socio techno financial end goals.

It’s appalling to see the wealthiest and what used to be  front running nation among all of humanity reduced to a state that we are asked to reuse PPE for front line healthcare workers and having to ration our tests and wait years for results on who ever we were able to test.

We can be , should be better than this, hopefully this episode is a reset on everything.

again this should also be an eye opener on health care delivery. Healthcare is something where we should strike a balance between. Capitalism and socialism. Because unlike wealth which we can accumulate based on our personal hard work, we are sometimes only as healthy as our fellow human beings are. This episode should open our eye, if majority of the population are unhealthy and cannot afford healthcare it doesn’t matter how much gold mark mega insurance we carry, we will also suffer. Let’s discuss that in another topic

  13. I feel like we might be off to a decent start so far compared to China.italy might have been unique,  Italy roughly 60 million in 120k sq meter space with major chunk smoking elderly. USA it’s 320 million in roughly 4 million sq meter with elderly in nursing homes and old age places too debilitated to be functional smoking and mingling. Don’t know if that makes any difference but at least here in Midwest it seems to be, coasts were more dense population and more active older folks in society is present it’s hitting harder.

@snot regarding going back to old life I am hoping these peak in about 3 weeks and starts to plateau and wean off in 8. Just arbitrarily plucking these numbers based on what I am seeing just in my area. Started as 1 First then 2-3-4 came. Then now about 7-8 suspicious cases  pending confirmation , it still in its up swing.( test results takes forever)

  14. As of now information is less and ever evolving.

without sticking to current statistics and ratio I will give an imaginary scenario

    island with 100 people

Let’s say covid can Infect about 60 of them easy- we can never say who it’s going to infect

of the 60 infected 30 will be okay can walk around spreading more 20 sick stay home 5 will need hospital and 5 icu.

and in this island there is only one ventilator

all that we are trying to do is to slow Down the rate of transmission to a point that the 5 that will show up for the vent shows up over a period of 5 to 10 weeks instead of all coming together in 1-5 days which means almost all dead.

And the only way to achieve this is by slowing down the initial infection, and the subsequent spread from the infected.

Even if a person with virus inside is not actively coughing and sneezing his oral nasal mucosa and saliva mucus secretions etc still can shed virus which at present seems to be pretty contagious.

many young people who have the virus and can continue functioning will continue to have fun roam around touch everything and once a little old Lady is at the right place and the right time Will end up with a wrong fate
