i talked to Mike. he said there were only 4 folks signed up for intermediate and ZERO signed up in advanced.

they didn't get any riding in for the morning sessions, so the Mid-Ohio staff did a detailed track walk with them. he told me it was well worth the money.

in the afternoon, they did 40-minute sessions because there were no advanced riders. it was dry and overcast, he said, but still good riding.

hey folks, all he said was MEPS-- not going to basic just yet.

for what it's worth, i enlisted in 1994.

here's my advice: make sure you go in there with a positive attitude and a sense of what job you want to do for the military. for example, i went there knowing that i wanted to do something with aviation. they did their damndest to get me to sign up for infantry or whatever. don't let them bully you into filling their quota. if the job isn't right, then don't sign up. it's that easy. remember, this is YOUR career. the government doesn't dictate your path, YOU DO! have fun!

(also for what it's worth, basic training is a great opportunity for you to shine as a leader. be proactive. always volunteer, and be the first to help out your battle buddies. these qualities won't go unnoticed by the drill sergeants. military leadership skills are valued greatly by civilian employers. employers are looking for outgoing folks who don't sit around waiting to be told what to do.)

your bike was definitely quick today. sounds like a good experience with Pegram's shop.

keep in mind that the brand any model of tire is part of the tuning. ensure that whomever you go with for the suspension tuning knows what tire you will be running.

i don't have any experience with RA, but if it's anything like CornerSpin (www.cornerspin.com), then it's great training for your roadracing game!

don't sell the SV suspension short. with thicker oil and racetech emulators in the forks and a GSXR shock you can run with the middleweights no problem! emulators/oil are 120 bucks, and a used shock can be had on fleabay for less than 40! (sorry for the threadjack, Brian-- back to FREE sag session info!)

Kinda! The SV's suspension is crap from the factory. Yeah, it's adjustable but only to a better level of crap. I do love everything else about it though.

Should I keep riding until I get it and adjust or go to a professional and let them play with it?

i'll be honest, the best money i ever spent (on motorcycles) was for a GMD Computrac measurement and tune. after that setup, the bike (SV650) was rock solid and ended up winning me a championship.

without that setup, i would likely have never gotten it right. i could have twiddled knobs and adjusted geometry until i was blue in the face. i could have drudged through the forums making adjustments that other racers recommended. but, all those recommendations are setup specifically for them.

by paying a pro, you will get the personalized service and advice that will help you get faster. plain and simple.

the following approach worked for me: trust the expert tuners. BUT, do your own research and understand the method and science behind geometry, damping, and springs. also, work on describing your handling symptoms to your tuner, as well as understanding the jargon. (for example, when talking about damping with your tuner, they will likely want to talk in terms of "fast" or "slow", as opposed to "hard" or "soft")

I understand that there are price points associated with this hobby. Personally, I'm a michelin guy, but I only came to that conclusion after trying the range of products from all manufacturers (from sport tires to the full-on race tires).

if you are running :46's at mid-oh, then you have room to grow and plenty of opportunity to give different tires a try. if anything, you'll learn more about how tire profile and construction effects your motorcycle setup.

my recommendation? give the Power Pure's a try. $248 shipped to your door from sportbiketireservice.com... set in the morning at 32psi front, and 30psi rear. check for those pressures again before going out after lunch and you'll be golden.
