  1. Built my gold valves yesterday. Anyone ever done that? The new shim stack is a lot thinner than the stock one, had to use 2 washers behind the screw to make up the difference. Next is cutting spacers for the sonic springs and after setting oil height I will have a nice new front end.
  2. I'm still leaning hard toward the vfr1200 because v4 and because Honda, but the ninja is a sexy bike...idk if I'll be doing a ton of long hauls, probably won't have time to the way the new job is looking, not for this season at least. I look forward to dragging my nuts across the seat of as many bikes as possible.
  3. Pulled all the shattered plastics off the bandit yesterday in preparation for replacement, also yanked the forks off. Today I tore down both forks and got the gold valves built out and installed in the cartridges. Shim stack was so much smaller than stock that i had to use 3 mm of washers against the head of the cap screw to get everything to seat against the spool. Was going to measure and cut spacers for my sonic springs but my back was screaming pretty loud by the time I got the valves assembled so I'll leave that for another day. Once the spacers are cut and springs installed, I'll replace all the seals, fill with oil and hopefully have a much improved front end/serious selling point on this bike.
  4. Well we're just gonna have to round up everyone who owns a bike I'm thinking of buying and get them in the same place so I can try everyone's bike out. Maybe we should also have really good food and beer and other bubbies there as well......hmmm.....
  5. I had not considered the ninja 1000 until now. Pretty impressive numbers. It's on the list of bikes I want to ride.
  6. Either is fine....camping for me usually involves alcohol which makes the next day a bit of a struggle, probably not a great idea before my first track day...but I guess I could camp without alcohol, I did it a few times as a child.
  7. Already have Joe rocket 2 piece leathers.
  8. Not sure what bike I'll have by July, likely a vrf1200 or similar sized sport tourer.
  9. Thanks, I had considered credit union. Definitely not buying new, not yet anyway. Will try lending tree.
  10. Short back story: I was aan idiot in my early 20's and fucked my credit to shit and gone. Left it in the gutter until 3 years ago, worked at it and now have an excellent credit score. I've never had a mortgage or car loan, just credit cards. Looking to possibly finance a bike this year, possibly from a private seller. How do I go about This? Or should I just stick to dealerships? Or maybe you're a loan officer at a bank and can direct me to the best option.
  11. So I'm going because winner winner chicken dinner. I have no way to trailer my bike there and I've been told I do not want to ride there, do a track day and ride home. So who has space on their trailer that wouldn't mind stopping by Massillon to pick me up? I do have a 5000 watt generator we can use and one, maybe two easy ups. So who can help me out here? I really don't want to add a hitch to my impreza and buy a little trailer that I have zero room to store.
  12. Holy shit, I can't believe I won. I have shit luck, like I never win anything. It could be raining pussy and I'd get hit with a dick. Thanks for putting this on. Can't wait to go!
  13. Hookers and blow. The answer is always hookers and blow. Will also accept: 2 strippers and an 8-ball.
  14. Sv1000 is a nice bike, I used to own it's psychotic uncle, the TL1000S, but it's not the most comfortable ride out of the box and has all the weight of a 1000cc bike with all the power of a 600.
  15. Not sure the wife will sign off on me burning my vacation time on a trip to the gap.
  16. It's as close to a gold wing as you can get without buying a gold wing. Neato engine but underpowered, I hear they are absolutely butter smooth tho, but the weight is why I am not even considering buying one.
  17. The 800 vtec is also a bike I want to ride, but I'm already used to far more power than it makes, and I like it... my bandit 1200 has katana 1100 cams, yosh pipe and I jetted and tuned the carbs for the k&n oval filters....makes an easy 20 hp more than the interceptor with way more torque... It's a fast bike, and well, I'm not buying down from that. The main draw for the 800 for me is the vtec coolness and exhaust tone that comes with it. I'll reserve judgement until I ride one but I think I'll be underwhelmed.
  18. I don't think I'll be doing much 2 up at all. Duke is gorgeous but not in budget. I almost bought a sprint last time I was looking but settled on the bandit because of the stump-pulling motor, reliability and ease of maintenance and availability of parts. I don't really care for most naked bikes, and I have an old cb750 I built that is already naked. I like fairings for freeway. I'm looking at a sport tourer because I absolutely love sport bikes but can't do the ergos anymore, so this gives me sporty performance without being a torture rack. I'll probably end up on a cruiser in a few years tho if my shoulders deteriorate any more.
  19. Wow, thanks. That was a very comprehensive review. My current bike is a bandit 1200 with some suspension and power upgrades and it's been a good bike for 5 or so years, but the bars buzz and my knees don't like the seating position. Great all around bike but very low tech and dated. Looking for more comfort, more power and better suspension, and the smoothness of shaft drive is pretty attractive too.
  20. Yeah, my plan is to ride everyone else's bike before I plunk down the money, just wondering if there was a better option outside of those... zook doesn't have a strong sport tourer between the bandit 1250 and the busa, I would be open to a sprint. Don't think I want to pay for a late model duc or ape...Maybe BMW?
  21. Starting a new job that almost doubles my current income. Time to give my 15 year old bandit up to someone else and get myself into something more appropriate for a man of means. Considering The usual heavy hitters from Japan, fjr, connie14, vfr1200.... duty will be daily commute and weekend rides with a possible track day or two. I'm not adverse to other options. So tell me what you love and why.
  22. Went in today and they gave me an offer. Exact wage I asked for and they offered to start me at 2 weeks vacation instead of the customary 1. I start March 5th and according to my math I'll make $30k more a year than in making now. So..... Best sport tourer poll thread to follow.
