  1. Great ride fellas! Mt Vernon to Westerville to Canal Winchester to Lancaster to Logan to New Straightsville to Glouster to McConnelsville to Somerset to Thornville to Newark to Mt Vernon. That was one heck of a loop.

Perfect day.....they don't get much better! Thanks for leading JC. See you guys next time.

  2. Glad I got to join in with the Med-Fast group for a little bit. It was too cold for my sensibilities this morning, but meeting you guys in McConnelsville worked out great.

Sorry for the route confusion in Somerset. I thought you guys wanted me to head to 664, not 668.

Either way, nice to get out and ride with you guys!

  3. Man, it's going to be a chilly morning. I'm planning to be there, but if I wake up to salt trucks, I might hold off on this one.

Don't wait up for me. If I'm there, excellent. If not, I might head that way a little later ride the route backwards and see if I run into you guys. Either way, ride safe!

  4. was there a diagnosis as to what caused catastrophic failure?

That kind of failure from a major motorcycle manufacturer is so rare, I am generally disinclined to believe it, and I would think if it did happen, BMW would be very on top of making things right for the customer to avoid a media firestorm.

I was there. It happened. It was on one of Hutch's rides. Oil sprayed everywhere in front of me. Luckily the guy kept it up, but we were all in awe that that beautiful brand new machine squirted itself out the back end for seemingly no reason.

But my other friend with one rides the piss out of it, I think his is a year newer.

  5. So, out of four days at the Gap I got to ride for about one, all total, due to rain.

It was one epic days worth of riding though. So I'm hoping to get back down there here in a month with OR cause I didn't get my fill. Arrangements are being made, and permissions sought.

  6. I made it down guys. Thanks for all the advice. I wish I had read some of these routes and tips before leaving because I would have avoided some hardship. But nothing too crazy.

I slabbed it down I75, hitting Cincy at about 4:45pm. Mistake 1. The ride from there to Knoxville was uneventful and great....and the weather was perfect. Then I hit a traffic jam 30 miles before Knoxville due to a truck fire, that had traffic at a dead stop. Bike was hot, I was sweating and it was now 9pm and dark. An hour later I was back up to full speed and now freezing.

But I did make it. Rode the dragon today and a lot of other roads in the area. I'm now exhausted, but planning to hit it again tomorrow.

Any advice on a better route to take to Central Ohio (home) would be utilized. I learned that even though the interstate is the most direct route, that's the same roads everyone else takes. And when traffic stops, you sit. Not a good way to get anywhere fast.

And any advice on other roads to ride while I'm down here would be great too. We hit 321, 129, 28 and some of the guys hit the Cheroholla Skyway today. I missed that cause I was cashed from the ride in.

    Thanks again guys!

  7. Thanks guys....decision was made for me though. The girlfriend needs my truck while I'm gone, so I don't have a ride to Springfield if I trailer. So, I'm riding the bike down. Wish me luck.

Thanks Tonik for the roads. I'll definitely check them out on the way there or on the way back.

  8. Thanks guys. I have an 03 GSXr, but have risers for clip-ons which takes considerable weight off the wrists. And I have some brand new sport-touring tires, so flat spots on the dragon shouldn't be a problem. I'm seriously leaning towards riding down.

Not to mention, the weather tomorrow is supposed to be gorgeous.

  9. I wouldn't say my max is 300....just that that's what we rode. I think I could get comfortable on the freeway.

It's more about the logistics. To trailer I have to drop my bike off in Cbus (live an hour away) and then get ride back home. Same for when we get back to pick up bike. Then I have to drive my truck to Dayton area and leave it there to ride with the carpool. And when I get home I have to get both vehicles home. So, all of that is somewhat of a pain that is all avoided by riding. Plus, I won't be at the mercy of others and can come and go as I please....

  10. Any of the guys that's ever ridden to the gap have any opinions on the trip? I figure it's 400 miles. Sometimes I'll ride 300 in a day around Ohio. I'm considering riding down to save money, instead of trailering. Any opinions here?
