  1. Here's an interesting thing I just noticed, now that the battery is charged I can start the bike but the ignition key is completely useless. It's not needed to start the bike and it won't shut it off. The kill switch and start button still work though. This has me wondering if it may be the starter solenoid possibly malfunctioning.
  2. I took the 7R out for a ride last night that didn't go as planned. I went to a local gas station (about 2 miles from my house) and when I shut the bike off to fill it up the neutral light and the oil light stayed on when I pulled the key out of the ignition. After I filled it up the bike wouldn't start so I had to call the wife to bring the pick up and get me. I disconnected the battery to see if whatever it was would reset itself. That didn't work and as soon as I reconnected the battery the lights came back on. Here's some photos from today where I was diagnosing the issue: Notice the key is out and the lights are on: After pulling the tank, tail and airbox I jiggled the wires in the photo and the lights went out: So now I'm thinking melted wires somewhere, so I start digging into the harness. I've found nothing so far but I eliminated a few things. Namely the ignition switch and the kill switch. If you look in the picture they're disconnected and the lights are still on: Now I have the battery charging and I'm digging into the manual to figure this out. Any ideas on the culprit?

    Handy Lift

    That's worth every penny.
  4. ZX12R batteries are not easily accessed. They are inside the frame backbone and if all the bolts are in the cover then you have to pull the fuel tank cover to open it.The fuel tank cover is blocked by the front seat, which is blocked by the rear seat. Once you get all of that out of the way then it's absolutely no problem to pull the battery out. You'll need 8mm & 10mm sockets and 4& 6mm allen wrenches along with a phillips screw driver. I'd say the guy was pretty motivated to be a salesman willing to tackle that job on a 12R on a showroom floor.
  5. This was initially reported with errors. Two motorcycles went left of center and collided with other motorcycles on a poker run. No cars were involved.

  8. If the bike doesn't already have them I'd install braided brake lines and get the best brake pads you can find for the riding you want to do. All the other stuff you want to do sounds great and I'm not knocking any of your plansbut I look at hot rodding a bike the same as I look at flying; take offs are optional but landings are mandatory (once you're up you're gonna come down and it's up to you as to how pretty that will be) On a bike speed is great but if you can't stop or turn you're gonna have issues. My vote is to make the brakes and suspension the best you can for your weight and riding style. These two things will giive you better lap times than pure horsepower on any day and any road course.
  9. That will be a nice ride. The cool thing about the tunnel out of Middlesboro is that once you get to the other side you are at the point where Tennessee,Kentucky and Virginia meet.
  10. I haven't updated lately because there's not much to update. For the most part I have had trouble free riding out of the 12R so I've been riding and enjoying the beast. I had a minor issue with the fuel tank cap and I cracked my key but a quick trip to Joe's Cycle Shop in North Dayton and I had 3 new keys made for dirt cheap. The rest of the time has been spent riding and enjoying. Last Friday was a tidy Friday at my house so I cleaned the 12Rand both ZX7R's up and took a couple pictures of the three. That's all I have to report for now.

  12. Whichever way you go make a point of going through Middlesboro Kentucky. It would be on highway 25E this will take you through one of the 3 Cumberland Gap tunnels. The other 2 are in Virginia on Interstate 77. 25E is a main road like 23 in Ohio and it takes you to small towns and some cool scenery. Look it up on a map.
  13. Yesterday was tidy Friday and I got a couple group photos of the Kawasakis hiding in my garage: Can you tell I bleed green?
  14. I will probably be there. If my wife goes we're taking the Z06 and if it's just me I'll be on the 12.
  15. Welcome to the forum. Nice bike, I like the look of the Triumphs.
  16. I don't ride on bald ass tires and I do take full responsibility for my actions. I was making a point that the ODOT people would quickly realize the error in judgement for doing this. Sorry that was above your head.
  17. It's been that way since the mid-90's (if I remember correctly). They're not changing it anytime soon, either. Try riding it in the rain. I'd like to put those ODOT A-holes on an old bike with bald-ass tires and have them ride that section when it's rain soaked or pea-soup foggy. They'd fix it immediately.
