I haven't even shared my adventures with Shad customer service. Apparently they all suck.

Put in a fresh battery and used it on 2 work commutes. As I was riding to work the other day, I hadn't activated the remote and suddenly it announced "remote control connected". Then about 30 seconds later it announced "remote control disconnected". Then it proceeded to do that for the next 10 minutes until I guess the battery finally died. It was annoying a fuck...I almost tossed it on the road while moving. the new battery was in maybe a month. Bottom line, it's a shitty product. P.S. this should probably be moved to the product/shop review section.

Thanks...my biggest issue is I have no damn room for another bike - especially a big one so that's something I need to solve first

Thanks for the info, Interesting...do you know how common the seal issue is? I'm wondering if people just proactively "fix" it before it fails.

I don't know a lot about these but have been wanting a bigger touring bike for the wife and I. I've googled a bit and it seems like a pretty solid bike with no real week spots (it appears most complaints have been addressed) but any info you have is appreciated. It's priced higher than KBB or NADA but both of those assume mileage is commensurate with age so hard to gauge. https://lexington.craigslist.org/mcy/6101391207.html

Jan, we can all vouch for Bubba - he's good people. Figured I would throw that in since no has worked the angle "Czech citizen goes missing in Ohio". We already had a Cincinnati area guy arrested for keeping a lady in a pit behind his house and underneath his shed this week. Also, on the subject of bike rentals, PJ (formerly of PJ's Parts) has a new business where he rents bikes out in the Gap area. www.pjschurchofspeed.com

This...if you are on them for more than a few weeks, that's when you have to be careful. When I had my Achilles surgery, I tried to come off the pain meds a few days after surgery (I have a high pain tolerance) and that was a big mistake I won't repeat when I have the other one done this fall. Took a whole day to get the pain back under control. After about a week I switched to ibuprofen and/or Tylenol and I was fine. You aren't going to get hopelessy hooked in a week, especially if you are mindful of it. On a side note, when I woke from surgery, they hadn't given me much in the way of pain meds because they did a nerve block at my knee. The thing is, the nerve block didn't work so I when I woke up, I was in some serious pain and it took convincing for them to do something about it. They must of thought I was faking or something. They gave me 2 doses over the course of about 10 mins or so of some painkiller which did absolutely nothing and then they re-did the block correctly and that took care of it but that was one of the longest 10 mins of my life.

Holy...you're very lucky you weren't hurt worse in the fall (good thing you're lighter now!) and you didn't do more damage trying to hike out. Hope you heal up fast.

Gte some Bohn armor to wear under pants and get some Draggin' or similar type jeans to wear over it. Competition Accessories have had their Sliders pants on sale a lot lately. The Bohn armor is not necessarily cheap but there are 2 grea things about it. 1) it's basically armor in thin spandex so the armor stays in place rather than floating around like they do in overpants. 2) since it's a thin spandex, it's cool (temp) to wear under the kevlar jeans. The only time I wear overpants anymore is for rain gear. *EDIT* I believe if you are an AMA member you get a discount on Bohn armor.

I'd rather look stupid than bloody and mangled

Another bonus for hi-viz gear (and luggage) is that LEO's tend to be more lenient with riders that show responsibility by A) wearing full gear B) wearing hi-viz. This plus luggage helps separate the more responsible riders from the squids as they tend to ride with little safety equipment and are usually on sport bikes with no luggage. I have 2 LEO friends that have told me this...otherwise, it really would've never occurred to me.

Other than the hi-viz colors, anything other than black/grey (which unfortunately seems to be the predominant scheme of most gear) will help. I think white is better than most other non-hi-viz colors. Throw some reflective stickers on your helmet as well. I also think it's very beneficial to have a bike where you sit up high enough to be seen behind most cars. Running multiple lights (not brights, I personally hate that) if your headlight is a single helps others judge your speed/direction more accurately.

Should be a piece of cake if you are fairly diligent...it's mostly diet

Tru dat...plus the weather is nice now so less excuse not to go out and take a walk and get more movement in.

same...this week I'm making an effort to start losing again (that sounds wrong)
