  1. We'll see...I shot them a note As long as they don't try to ass rape me on fees and I don't find out I was misled it should be OK.
  2. I'll miss it for sure...though if I was concerned about the money, I wouldn't be looking at a beemer If I could only keep one bike, the Tenere would probably be it. It's so versatile. But if I get a second bike, one or the other will sit most of the time and that's just a waste. I'm ok with that if the other bike is for totally different riding (like the XRL) but if they overlap by a lot it's just going to clog up my garage. BTW, a guy is coming from IL on Sat who intends to buy and if not there are at least 2 others chomping at the bit.
  3. Ah, thanks it was nested. I'm still a zombie from jet lag. It's kicking my ass.
  4. Anyone had any experience with this dealer? They appear to be part motorcycle dealer, part gun shop which is a little weird (to me anyway). I'm going inquire with them about a bike and I thought I'd ask here first...there are several dealers I can choose from and if they have a bad rep, I may not waste my time with them. We used to a have a forum section for this but I think it got axed recently but if I somehow missed it, mods feel free to move this to the appropriate section.
  5. Thanks...have a LOT of people interested - from as far away as Hawaii!
  6. Given the market trending towards smaller displacement bikes, especially adventure bikes, Honda (and all the other Japanese brands) are foolish not to refresh this or make a street legal version of the 450. Both Honda and Yamaha have updated 250 dual sports...the 450's would be so easy to do. Kawasaki make some effort with the KLR but it's still more a pig than the big red pig. I've owned and/or ridden most every small dual sport and outside of the very pricey Euro bikes, the XRL is my favorite. Bullet-proof, easy to work on, easy to find parts for, and fun to ride!
  7. I'm sure there are some columbus peeps that could lend a hand. Lots of very knowledgeable folks on here in that area. I'd recommend NOT taking it to a shop or paying someone to do it for you. Not that the shop/person won't do it right but if you are able to do it yourself or with some assistance you'll learn more about the bike and have the confidence to work on it yourself even if it's just pulling the carb to clean it. Plus, that knowledge will translate to other thumpers. You never know when you'll be in the woods and something stops working and it certainly helps to have a clue as to where to start troubleshooting. Speaking of, the CDI's on these are known to go out over time. If you are every out and it just quits (and you aren't out of gas, etc). Trying tapping on the CDI box (located near the battery). This usually gets it working again at least until you can reach civilization. A bunch of us on ADV did a group buy of a programmable CDI from Czechoslovakia that is not only more dependable but can be programmed to alter the ignition curve and improve performance. Also, check youtube for videos on how to do various things like valve check/adjustment which is ridiculously easy on this bike. When I had my DRZ, anything I wanted to do with the bike there was a how to video online. I tore that bike down, replaced the front and rear springs, re-jetted, re-greased the swingarm bolt...you name it. I'm not a mechanic by nature (more of a computer guy) but I didn't really have much difficulty save for stubborn bolts/nuts. Doing all that really helped me with other bikes I've had since including the XRL.

The diving there is definitely world class
  9. The BMW is a lot lighter and frankly I miss an I4 engine...it's a fast bike but comfy. I just dig them. I'd love a Multistrada but I think the BMW will be more reliable. The FJ-09 would be perfect if it came with grip warmers and cruise control (why oh why doesn't have cruise control????). I can add those on but by the time I do that and looking at the differences in component quality (brakes, suspension, etc) the BMW isn't all that more expensive for a lightly used one for ~$14k - $15k.
  10. I'd like to get a BMW S1000XR if I sell it...but I may just get an FJ-09 and keep this.
  11. Careful...you'll get mod fever. Mine went from zero to hero
  12. I messed with the jetting quite a bit and couldn't get it quite right. Then a guy on the AdvRider forum told me to get the dynojet kit because the stock needle is crap. Basically he told me get the kit, drill out the vaacum holes (as per the Dave's mods), swap the spring for the DJ one, put a 65 pilot and the DJ165 main jet and you should be good to go. This assumes you de-smog and are using the Uni filter for better air flow. I'm also using an FMF Slip on. It runs awesome now.
  13. It's very simple actually...seems like a lot but the hardest part is pulling the carb and compared to a lot of bikes, it's a piece of cake. If you are unsure, take pictures before you do anything and pics and you take things apart. That way you can see how it was before you mucked with it.
  14. You'd think so but you don't "swim" as much as you think when diving...more floating underwater. However, we are in the water enought to impact body temp so your metabolism does kick up a bit to maintain normal body temp.

The plane rides do suck...even in business class. Dubai is an awesome place...somewhat like Vegas without the casinos. We only had 2 days there...could've used another 3 at least.
  16. After being on vacation traveling extensively for 3 weeks, I came home to find I didn't gain a pound! My sleep is all messed up though and I'm not feeling the energy to get to the gym.

Well, I didn't get to see any Lambo LEO cars in Dubai but had a great vacation just the same. Those that are friends with me on FB may have seen these but here are some pics and a short video from the trip. It was interesting that in Indonesia, scooters are EVERYWHERE and I'd say 70% of them were Honda, 20% Yamaha and the rest were Vespa or other brands I didn't recognize. I didn't see a single Kawi or Suzuki.
  18. Get the MRA spoiler ...I think they call it an xcreen or something. There are 2 versions, one that clamps on and one you need to drill holes for. I opted for the less permanent one. I have a Givi touring screen as well.
  19. I went with the Givi and added the backrest as well so you know my preference. I wanted more volume available in a top case so I could use it without the panniers and still carry enough. Most of the people complaining about the fragile nature of the OEM box were off-roading so take that into consideration and I've read where even the altrider plate has broken. There are a lot of complaints about the OEM panniers too in regard to the locks but most of the time it's user error. They can be a little stiff but they work fine if you push down on the lid like you're supposed to.

I never left the airport, not much to see. We stay there a few days on the way back.

Thx...getting ready to get on a 9hr leg from here to Jakarta. Thankfully we splurged for business class. Very nice...got your own little mini bars, charging ports, and individual screens that are probably 24" with a ton of new movies, etc. the seat reclines into a bed too.

Traveling to Indonesia to do some diving. Stopping off at Dubai for a few days on the way back. We are currently laid over in Dubai for several hours and obviously I'm already bored (just got off a 12 hour flight).
