Weather looks very dry for our whole trip, as expected on any trip I take. It's gonna be a tad cold in the mornings.

The dome of hate is back. Probable be pretty cold at elevation too. Wondering if I should pick up some heated gloves or roll with the Thinsulate A* gloves with my heated grips 😶

Davis Creek looks good, there is an IHOB behind Best Buy on 119. Give me a rough ETA to there, and I will text you my GPS tracker when I roll Thursday.

Let's say ~12:30...I might change the route slightly to get there a little quicker.

  2. Jim, any idea where and what time you want to meet up on Thursday? I know you mentioned Racine though that's not exactly on the proposed route. It should take me about 5 hours to get to that area (per Google) so we can plan on meeting somewhere for lunch. Maybe across the river from Scary, WV (it'll be close to Halloween after all :P) or further down in Davis Creek? That's not too far off of 16.

FYI - I manually copied the routes into my Garmin (because Garmin software sucks ass) and I noticed that on day one, down north of Marion, there is a route SNAFU that turns onto 610 for a bit then reverses back (unless that was intentional for a gas stop or something). I didn't see any others like this with the rest of the routes.

I took a run at hotels, tried to keep it cheap. I am willing to pay more but nothing wrong with any of these hotels.

The links do not have the correct dates, fix it before any of you makes a reservation.

Oct 18th Marion https://www.redlion.com/marion-va  We have all stayed here before, you know what it is. Old but clean and quiet. Walk-able food and drinking.

Oct 19th Asheville https://www.choicehotels.com/north-carolina/asheville/quality-inn-hotels/nc179?source=gyxt  There is a Motel 6 across the street that is cheaper but the reviews say it is a shithole. Lots of food and drink nearby.

Oct 20th  https://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/caryville/tyses/hoteldetail?cm_mmc=GoogleMaps-_-EX-_-US-_-TYSES  Everything in that area is a shithole except this hotel. Plus we will be smarter in the morning. Waffle House and liquor store across the street.

The Asheville Quality Inn now wants $220 a night for a room...WTF?

Just tested my heated gear. I'm good to go.

I've been thinking about this since you posted it. Never really got too cold when we've been down there in the fall before but I know up in the mountains it gets cold quick so I ordered a heated liner for my jack and remote controller. I have heated grips and warm gloves so no issues there and I get decent wind protection on the bike.

  6. I can be a bit of a hotel snob but not on a bike trip...these look fine to me. I like the ones we can walk to the store or get something to eat. You never know when you'll find a hottie in a kidnap van needing a jump start.

  7. Jim, that looks fine to me, I like it. Yep, that is still my phone #. I have to head to Dallas for work and I won't be back home until late Thursday. We can figure out exactly where to meet up and what time. Again, you (or anyone else) are welcome to stay the night here Wed night. Do you still have a Sena?

    Anyone else? @JustinNck1

@2talltim you heading down earlier with @Casper?

  8. I was actually thinking about the opposite direction. Start through WV and VA, pick up the BRP to the end, yada yada, do the damn dam tour on the way back like last time. I should have some time tonight to look at routes.

My thinking is the BRP can get congested, especially if the leaves are turning, so it's probably best to hit that during the weekdays and the remainder on the weekend.
