  1. Ha, I'm good to go. I need to look at routes...I was thinking of trying to catch the BRP somewhere south of Roanoke VA. I've never been north of the viaduct area. But I'm open to most anything...I just need to get out and ride.

The dam tour we did on the way back a few years ago was pretty cool, up through the Daniel Boone NF.

  2. From a work standpoint, the best days that will probably work for me is Oct 18-21. Those in the north would be welcome to come down to my house in Cinci Wed night...I have 3 spare rooms. I have to talk to my boss and see if there are any concerns. I'm on a huge project and it's pretty hot and heavy through the rest of the year. I already have 10/29 - 11/5 off for a dive trip I scheduled last year so that's a lot of time off in a short period.

    I'm tapped out for vacation.

This will be the first year in the almost 23 years I've been with the company that I probably will not use all of my vacation. This year has been a bear for my work and my wife's as well.

Depending on work schedule, I may be available. Nomad style trip or home base style?

Either way...I think the last time we went we did nomad style which afforded us a lot more range.

  4. Anyone planning an October gap trip? I just got back from that area on my annual car trip with others and I wanted to be on a bike so bad...If I can get away from work, I'd like to take a bike trip down. October has always been a good trip...less traffic/people and cooler temps.

Subject to change but slabbing to Lexington area Wednesday. Then Jim and @ScubaCinci 's Damn Dam Route on Thursday to Townsend.

Where the hell has Joe been anyway.

Sorry, been super busy man...had Achilles surgery in September, my son got reassigned to Ft Campbell in Nov so they've needed help, I got promoted in December :bling: and been working 60+ hour weeks ever since including several trips to Boston - I know, woe is me

I've had the bike out exactly one time since September and that was to ride into work one morning a week or so ago. Since I've been working so many hours I've been working mostly from home - I've saved a lot of money on gas and miles on the car though!

My wife is expanding her business, moving to a new building and migrating her practice to a new broker/dealer so between us we haven't had a moment's peace. I don't think I've turned on the TV in a few months.

Things should calm down for us late summer so I'm hoping I can take an extended vacation this fall to do a proper bike trip. It's a pretty good bet I'll have not used any vacation days until then.

  6. Contacted Sygic - can't xfer my purchases from one platform to another which is a big pile of suck since I've spent $50+ (I paid for three upgrades so likely more than that).

Seems like I get a LOT more notifications from apps on Android. You can fine tune them a bit better on iOS...though I read somewhere that on Oreo, notifications get an overhaul.

+1 on Spigen. I have had them on my last two phones and they are great. I've dropped them a few times and no problems at all.

I use tempered glass screen protectors with no issues with smudging. My wife dropped her phone and cracked the glass protector but the phone screen is fine. Not sure if the glass protector prevented a screen break or not but i like to think it did just to justify the cost.

I'll have to look at the glass ones, not sure if they make them for the curved screen. I bet they cost a mint

I don't like thick cases as a rule, I generally go minimized to avoid scratches. Knock on wood, I haven't dropped my phone in years. I've had it slide off my lap onto the carpet a few times but never on hard surface or from a significant height.

Order a Spigen Slim Armor. I've had one on my LG G2, Note5, and now my S8+

Are you using a screen protector on yours? If not, any issues with scratches? I haven't used one on my iPhones for years and nary a scratch. I've read a number of stories that the S8+ screen scratches fairly easily? That said, I've heard that about iPhones too. I had the chick at Verizon put a Zagg one on but it sucks ass. It gets smeary in no time. I might just go naked on the front like I have with the iPhones...I'm generally very gentle on my devices (unlike Timmy). My iP7+ still looks like brand new.

Oh, and for what it costs I can buy the new Gold Wing. Which is exactly what I expect I will be doing.

In all seriousness, the wife and I may be doing the same next year. We've talked about buying a used one but I really like the changes on the newest model (maybe not carplay so much).

I haven't ridden one but a couple :asshat: 's have said the Venture is garbage.

What led them to that conclusion - anything specific? I'm curious to know, it seems to have gotten good reviews overall.

  11. OK, so noob question for a techie guy because I've never dealt much with SIM cards...

    I know both 7+ and S8+ use a nano-SIM, so that's all good.

Assuming I shut off iMessage & Facetime prior to the fact (from what I read, a critical step in the migration), can I just pop the iPhone SIM card into the S8+ and have the S8+ ready to go with my former iPhone phone #? (I realize I'll still have to migrate photos, contacts, etc.)

Then can I just go to Verizon, add a line, get a new SIM card and put in the iPhone and it's all good with a new #?
