I think they protect their own a lot which is a problem, it may not happen as much as we think because the cases that surface are highly publicized and skews perception. Certainly there are a lot of examples in other professions where it happens including politics and medicine. My dad was killed (and subsequently resuscitated) because he was given the wrong medicine in the hospital. My mom and sister were in the room at the time and the nurse told them what they were administering as she was doing it. After the fact, the doctor/nurse/hospital claimed it never happened and no records of it could be found of course. Spend some time in the corporate world and find out the good ol' boys club is alive and well...they cover their asses all the time.

True, but in comparison of what most of us pay, it's nothing. It's not like these people are buying high-end big tax items. I've never received food stamps or gov't assistance so maybe I'm wrong here but I would think that no tax is paid when using food stamps and getting free Obama phones.
-
LOL...good one. There are a LOT of non-criminals that don't pay taxes and most are living on the government's (and our) dime.

A lot of police work is reactive rather than proactive. It's the nature of the job, like paramedics. Do you expect them to just know when to show up before someone is robbed or assaulted? The proactive work you'd most likely never see or hear about because they prevented something bad from happening so unless it was a big drug bust or something, it wouldn't get air time on news, etc. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't add value but it sounds like you have a very negative view of law enforcement and it would take a lot to change your views. So what happened to you that made you feel this way - get a couple of driving awards? I have no connection to or special affinity for LE and there are certainly those in that community that abuse their position but to categorize them all as glorified admins who solely prey on the public for revenue is ignorant.
-
Those are some really ignorant views you got there. I hope you or your family never need the assistance of the police.

OK, I'm going to be kind here and say you should re-think that. I've never had to use my helmet to actually protect me because I've never wrecked so I shouldn't wear it? I've never had to use my seatbelt so they should just leave them out of cars to reduce costs? See where this is going?

Cops tazed a guy in Cinci last night who was in the act of assaulting and robbing a woman and he died as a result (autopsy pending). Sometimes shit happens when you behave poorly.
-
Something's wrong...that guy was white. Too soon?

Wow, dude had his hands up and all...

The weight is what helps keep it glued to the road. Specs are starting to emerge for the model X - 5000lb towing capacity.

Yeah, the lack of sound is disconcerting at first but I actually grew to like it pretty quickly. I like a quiet car interior in general. My X6 is very quiet, my Honda Element is a just short of a racket inside

Admittedly the tech is a big draw. The ludicrous mode is only on the P85D model and an option (i.e. costs money to enable). The 'lesser' models are stupid fast as well and more than plenty for an acceleration freak like me. BTW, no fucking way am I letting the car drive itself. On the test drive, he had us put it in adaptive cruise mode where it will match the speed to the vehicle in front including stops. Made me a nervous wreck...I prefer control.

Hopefully the model 3 from Tesla will be more affordable...the more electric cars on the road, the more infrastructure they'll build to support them.

My work has free charging stations in the garage which I plan on leveraging as much as possible. I'm not sure where you see it costs more? No oil changes, etc...the only real ongoing maintenance items are tires, brakes and wipers (all of which can be done anywhere). Tesla recommends "service" (diagnostics and full inspection) once a year which is $600 but it's not compulsory, even on a lease and will not impact the warranty of not done. You can buy four years at once for $475 per service. The guy at work who has had one for closing on 3 years says he only brought his in for maintenance once and that was only because he was getting bodywork repaired. He said his electric bill went up about $40-50 a month and he charges exclusively at home...drives ~60 miles a day. I calculated my gas cost monthly assuming 1,000 miles a month (I'm on a 12k/yr lease) with premium fuel @20mpg and I'm paying $130/mo minimum depending on gas prices which we all know are going to continue to rise. Don't forget the $7,500 tax credit If I took road trips often and didn't have 3 other cars to drive, I'd be more hesitant to go all in on electric. There are charging stations everywhere (many are free) but the Tesla superchargers (free), which charge very rapidly, aren't quite saturating the country yet but getting there.

Thanks...odd that it does not show up a search at all.

Bizarre...does not show up for me at all, on my phone or 2 different pc's. Me thinks there's an issue with the forum. Either way, info passed along.

Seriously? I searched, queried my posts through my profile and even searched the "tags".

Tires cost no more or less than any other car with rims of that size (various sizes on Tesla). Hell, the tires on my X6 were $2k for four of them.

Go drive one...they are a hoot! The doors on the model X are referred to as Falcon wing because they articulate near the window line so they can open in tighter spaces. I'm not sure I have the patience to wait for them to raise and lower. I'm waiting to see the options/pricing on the X before I commit to the S.

I drove one last weekend...seriously considering getting one. Waiting to see what the model X brings.

Best way to attach small electronic doodads to my bike?
ScubaCinci replied to Josh1234's topic in Daily Ride
Sugru is awesome, used it for lots of stuff. The only downside is it has an expiration if you don't use it. -
Wish this was closer for me. It's 5 hours of riding just to get there and back, not counting the ride itself. Hope everyone enjoys the ride!

Pics aren't working for me...
