I wonder about characterizing the offending dog as "charging". The term implies aggression, but was any actually demonstrated? Was there growling, hackles raised, etc.? It might've been that the dog was just in a big hurry to meet yours, and while you perceived a charge, your dog (since he speaks dog) didn't, which is why he didn't react adversely.

This thing was built to a premium standard, and has never let me down. Several members on here have had their bikes on it on the way to and from the track! Kept in the garage over winters. Some rust, but it's all cosmetic. -Drop tail. Makes loading WAY easier, no matter what the cargo -Ramp gate. One hinge broken, but an easy/cheap fix for a welder. -2000 lb axle. The more I put on it, the better it pulls! -3 wheel chocks (installed). Haul 1 or 2 bikes. Tie down rings conveniently placed for either configuration. 4 more anchor points in the back. -Alloy wheels. -2" ball. -All metal construction, angle iron frame and diamond plate floor. This thing is absolutely solid! Asking $800, cash only. I am willing to deliver within a reasonable distance.

If you're carrying a fogger on your belt for use as personal defense, again, you're doing it wrong. Here's another thing to consider. There's no way the cop was being attacked. A gun is, by nature of its mechanism, a standoff weapon. So it's not as if the dog was gnawing on his leg at the time the cop decided, of all the choices available to him, to use his gun. So he was being what, chased? Barked at?

Right, who doesn't have knowledge of what? A cloud like air freshener? I don't know what you're thinking of, but OC comes out in a stream, like hornet killer or brake cleaner. Again, if you manage to get that in your eyes, particularly when spraying downwards at an animal, you're doing it wrong.

Cop gets mace in his own eyes? Maybe he shouldn't be a cop. That's just dumb. And all of this discussion assumes that the whole "vicious dog" bit is true in the first place, which, given how most of these stories go, probably isn't.

I'm quite sure he had at least mace or a baton. More likely both. I think "might" should be preferred over "definitely" any day, when you're talking about the possibility of killing something that is probably very dear to someone. And kicking might not stop the dog entirely, but it'll give you separation, at least.

Actually, from an ethological and evolutionary standpoint, you are completely incorrect. You had a bad experience with a dog once, one in which you probably did something wrong (not to say I'm excusing the dog...), and so you've written all dogs off. I'm sorry you've had that experience, but to let it color your objectivity like this is just ignorant.
