The speed of the ride leader, or other riders in NO WAY should affect your speed.

Your speed should be based on your skill, confidence, and how you prefer to be riding that day.  End of story.

If I'm content following the rider in front of me, I'll stay there.  If not, I may pass in a straight, or the next time we change roads.  If I want to chill, I'll either drop way back, or let someone know that I'm going to split off and do my own thing.  In any case...I am riding MY ride.

I agree completely.  I never try to keep up to the point that I'm in over my head.  But having someone slightly faster helps me go a little faster if that makes any sense.  If I can't keep up at all, I just fall back and ride alone.

I like to ride with people. Riding alone is awesome sometimes, but, riding with others somehow is better.

I agree with you, but everyone I've ridden with seems exponentially faster than I am on roads with curves.  I could use the practice but feel like it hinders/annoys other riders so I just don't join.  I want to ride because I love it, not spend the day with anxiety because I feel like I'm slowing everyone else down.

VW Dieselgate will cost $15 billion, this could have something to due with the sale of Duc. BTW, where will you put the fringe on the Duc?

Damn Germans, had to eff everything up.  Perhaps the new name will be Harducly Desmodison.  Ugh fringe... it's the worst... no fringe, never, not gonna do it...  lol

No more Ducati meet ups at Starbucks. Have to be at bars now. And all the Ducati gear will say Harley.

Damn it!  Plus, I hate fringe...  :nono:

Fingers crossed that this deal falls through.  I read that Ducati is actually under Audi ownership, which is still the VW conglomerate, so is dieselgate the real reason their selling??

  5. I have matte paint sealant from Dr Beasley's - it was recommended by another rider that had a bike with matte paint.  I haven't used anything else from them, yet.

    He ain't lyin...

From now on, I know to not respond to his posts that I like something - otherwise he eliminates all my questions/excuses and I find myself with new gear, etc.

Not that it's a bad thing... it's just an expensive thing.  lol

On my Ninja 650, I raised the windscreen to maximum and it made horrific noise! In the lowest position, it's still better to have no windscreen at all. Never tried the middle position. I have been wanting to cut the windscreen down, but I'm just not ready to risk destroying it. I'm only about 5'8". (I wanted to go naked, but I went with the best deal overall.)

The chin curtain might help me. I have a weak chin and jaw line, I guess, and the curtain in the HJC is mesh and just touches the middle of my chin. I was planning to try stuffing some padding around the neck roll to see if snugging it up might help. The cheek pads used to be super tight! Painfully tight, but now they're good.

If you had pressure on your forehead with the RF-1200, but not the GT-Air, the GT-Air sounds better for me. Considering the HJC used to make my forehead burn!

Try a different chin curtain to see if that does anything maybe?  I forgot to add that I went up a size with the GT-AIR.  It's worth trying on anything you might buy because not all helmets fit the same, even from the same manufacturer.  Hopefully there's someplace close that you can try something on before you buy?

  8. I have both the GT-Air and the RF-1200.  My first helmet was a Scorpion that wasn't doing me any favors.  When I got the RF1200, it was worlds better (for me).  There wasn't as much noise as the Scorpion, and the availability of a Transitions self-tinting shield was amazeballs.  I was happy with it.  Fast forward a year or two and being on a naked bike, the RF1200 wasn't doing it's job as it used to on my R6 (it was noisy & started giving me pressure on my forehead), I guess that tiny R6 windscreen actually does something??  A month or so ago I purchased the GT-Air from Riders Discount and once I went riding with it, I couldn't believe the difference from the RF1200.  The GT-Air was quieter - probably in part because of the thicker padded chin curtain, which I haven't removed because I've read that this helps reduce wind noise within this particular helmet.  I took it on my moto-camping adventure and had no issues with it at all.

I have a completely naked bike, no tiny windscreen or anything.  You've at least got a decent windscreen on the 650 but depending on how tall you are, the buffeting from it could hit you in a weird spot.  My 650 seemed to hit me right in the helmet/visor/chin area, but that's because I'm freakishly tall.

I like the GT-Air, but you've got fairings so the RF1200 might work for you.  IMO, you can't really go wrong with Shoei (as long as it fits your melon).  ;)

  10. We were just talking about this device on my trip.  I'd like to find something that I can take still photos with while riding.  I don't want to create videos - I don't want to make that kind of commitment, but would love to be able to snap photos while riding.  Also, does Sena have anything that combines with my 3S?  I know it's the basic model and doesn't have a lot of features compared to the others so chances are pretty slim.

If you have any recommendations that I could research, that would be great.  Thanks!!

What speeds did you reach? No problem without a windscreen?

Maybe 85-87. We mostly cruised around 80.  The wind in NY was rough at certain points so I would tuck to give my neck a break from the wind.

ear plugs and bluetooth helmet speakers. Was the best mod I ever did

Agreed, until you can't get a cell signal, then you have to sing to yourself in your helmet...

I couldn't get a cell signal in the campground at all.  Not really a big deal for me, except that I couldn't send my family texts that I had made it to our destination without incident.

One thing I want to know is how did you deal with wind noise for 1300 miles? It would kill me by 130 miles. Might be time for a new helmet.

I have ear plugs and a new helmet.  I bought a Shoei GT-Air which is built for a naked bike like mine and is worlds quieter than my RF-1200.  I used to think my RF-1200 was quiet until I rode with the GT-Air - what a difference.  I have no-noise ear plugs that filter out noise (wind, etc) but still allow you to hear music thru a Sena.  I recommend the ear plugs as well as the helmet.

Digging up an old thread.  I bought these riding jeans last year http://www.alpinestars.com/daisy-women-s-denim-pants

They look close to regular jeans and are pretty comfy walking around.  They are NOT designed for 400 mile days.  They chafe the backs of your knees like you wouldn't believe after a couple hours, but if you're just wandering around town, they're great.  Not sure why they didn't add softer material to the back of the knees.

They are long enough for me, but they run small in size. I wear a 4 or 6 typically. I bought a 6 (28). I should have bought an 8 for some extra room while I'm sitting - right now the pants dig a little bit.

They have protective knee and hip pads. I haven't used the hip pads because I honestly don't think I could pull them over my hips with them in there.

Now, I feel like Astars should send me products to test .... how do I make that happen?? I need to let them know how to make women's motorcycle gear.

@OsuMj what is your inseam?  I purchased a pair of Street & Steel (?) mens jeans from Cycle Gear but am always in the market for riding pants, especially if they fit well.  I fear the A* pants will end up as capri pants on me. ☹️

Ouch, fractured pelvis is pretty serious depending on where it is. My wife broke her pelvis in a bike accident, it was a long recovery which included an extended stay at a rehab facility, time in a wheelchair, and a metal plate to hold things together. The pelvic specialist that treated her said a broken pelvis is often fatal because the edge of the broken bones can cut the major arteries running through there and the victim dies from internal bleeding. After I heard that I felt like an ass being on the phone with the insurance company while she was laying on the pavement with the EMT's rather than being right there with her.

Oh wow, how awful for your wife.

From what I remember it's a hairline fracture - she was able to go home back in the states that evening.

1300 miles on an R6? That doesn't even sound like fun... details on the wreck?

That was my thought but just because of my own experience on my R6.

The R6 was involved in the wreck - not sure if a full mirror check was done before merging to the left lane combined with a kid in a pickup that apparently sped up to play bumper cars with the Yamaha - it all happened just over my left shoulder as she was behind the Ducs apparently trying to help us merge & stay together after construction/closed left lane.  Luckily the R6 bucked her off on impact or she may have ended up under the front tire of the truck - so I'm told.  Broken wrist & elbow, other wrist sprained, fractured pelvis were the worst of it.

Glad the one who had a spill is ok! Sounds like a good time!

Did you meet any of the internet famous ladies out there? Lot of girls I follow on instagram were going to the event as well!

The girl I took the trip with is pretty popular on Instagram.  I'm new to Instagram but connected with a lot of girls on the site after meeting them.

They are called OPP's...a play on Cops.  Ontario Provincial Police. Except for the one that arrested me for under age drinking they are usually pretty cool.

You're right - his vest had OPP on it.  He was laid back and not a dick like cops here can be, which was helpful given what had just transpired.

  19. We did meet a hot Provincial Police Office (Canada's version of a state cop) after the crash.  His hotness along with the fact that he was swearing in front of us helped all of us deal with the shock of the accident.

But I'm guessing none of you guys care about that...  lol

It was a guy I went to law school with.  I couldn't tell you, but he seemed like a "stock" guy.

I emailed my brother to ask if his had any issues, and what kind of mileage he got in real world driving.  Not sure the wife will think the GTI looks good though.

I average about 31mpg with varied driving between city & highway, and I'm not usually driving gently either.  I don't think you can beat the interior of most any VW, imo.

    Good luck with your search.

And PLEASE provide pics of the Corolla plow truck!!! ?
