  1. At my residence with a simple 40A sub panel split off from my house that has 100A service, I would require at least new service to my garage. More likely I would need a home upgrade to 200A and then a garage upgrade. Compared to the house I moved out of just a couple years ago that still had knob and tube wiring, screw in fuses and 60A service for the whole home and garage, the current setup is not that bad for cost to setup. Look at wiring history and pre 1950 homes had 30A service, 1950-1965 had 60A and usually could only handle one 240v line (stove or dryer may be using this). The median year for when homes were built in the US is 1974. How many of those pre 1974 homes have not been upgraded or don't have the space for a dedicated 240v 60A circuit.
  2. Cutting down to 30A from 60A reduces you to 22 miles per hour of charge time. That would be 110-132 miles for the 5-6 hour charge window. Combine that with the stated 110 mile minimum daily commute and suddenly, your free level 2 charger will not keep up with the need. The "misinformation" is more of a lack of attention to details and requirements.
  3. That estimate was on a 21mpg premium fuel car. Pick up a VW Golf at 39 mpg with regular fuel and a brand new cost of $25k and it would take even longer for the break even point.
  4. A level 2 charger requires 240v service. Most homes do not have this available. You will need to hire an electrician or know how to do the wiring. Yes your charger was $500. Now you need a 60A breaker - $50. Now you need wiring. Let's say you are within 100' of your panel. You need 100' of 4/3 Romex - $950. Your $500 charger is already $2000 and you do not have installation or any of the odds and ends you may need yet. Add in the fact that someone buying a $50k car is probably going to have a decent size home and the box may be further away adding to the cost. This is all if your home is able to handle an additional 60A draw on it's current service. Start trying to charge your car while you are cooking dinner and the wife is doing laundry and your current goes up quickly.
  5. I am often mobile until 11pm or midnight. I am back up on the road by 5am. This gives me a 5-6 hr charge window. Work and back with no traffic or detours is 110 miles. Add in any errands etc. This is all if I do not run a middle of the night emergency call. To meet these demands, I would need a long range model. 2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range is $45k. $20k more than my current car. Add $6k for a Level 2 charger. It would take 147,967 miles before I broke EVEN on just the purchase price of the car and charger. Adding in the cost of electricity at $0.12/kwh it would take an additional 33,684 miles to break even. That is 181,650 miles vs. my 21mpg premium gas current vehicle.
  6. Strut/Coil Spring/Mount Assembly... not always an option but, if it is, it is the only option I will use. Having all new parts is beneficial, the amount of time saved is beneficial and the safety factor is well worth it.
  7. 10 psi @ idle, 20 psi @ 2000rpm is the spec.
  8. A pressure tester may help a lot. If you don't have one, I think some of the parts stores loan/rent them.
  9. This is exactly where I am currently buying. Prices seem stupid crazy to me. One of the guys on our department got $100k for 5 acres with a driveway, septic, well and electric line run. House across the street sold in 48 hours for $20k over asking. I was looking at one on 229 next door to Dollar General. It sold for $155k 9/19 and $275k 10/20. Not uncommon to see $15k/acre undeveloped. It is getting pretty crazy. Even looking at what sold 6 months ago vs the last 90 days is wild. I hope they come down soon.
  10. My rental is 1008 sqft built in early 70's. Windows are terrible. Insulation in the floor (crawl space) has all been removed. My electric bill (TV, Surround Sound, Ceiling Fan on 24/7, 50 gallon water heater, LED everything 2 people working 1st and 3rd shift, heat pump set to 70 and never use E-Heat) is only $142 per month on budget plan. It is $12 higher than last year and usage has been just slightly higher. Landlord told me I would need to switch to E-Heat when it got into the 30's or below. I have not switched it in the 6 winters I have been here and have had the lowest bills since he has owned the rental.
  11. Rent is starting to get bad too. My landlord upped my rent $75 this year then 1 month later told me he was selling. 1.5 acres in Morrow County (very poor county with few amenities), 1008 sqft modular ranch built in early 70's, poor condition (holes in walls, random paint on walls, missing trim, unfinished drywall, plexiglass windows), detached 2 car garage (back wall off foundation where someone pulled in to far), 2 sheds, and an unfinished barn. Realtor told him it was an easy sell with a bidding war at $250k?! Market is INSANE.

  13. WELL under that price range is the Taurus SHO or Explorer Sport. May not be as high end as many of the cars on the list however, for $17,500 I just picked one up with 70k on it. EcoBoost 3.5L mid 13's stock. Not hard to get in the 12's. The platform is looking to break into the 10's this summer. I have heated AND cooled massaging front seats, heated rear seats, automatic parking, Lane Departure Prevention, Advanced Cruise Control, Automatic High Beams, Automatic Wipers, Forward Collision Warning, Cross Path Detection, etc. Upgrading to a Sync 3 Radio with Android Auto/Apple Car Play and factory functions for $250. Leaves plenty of your $35k for mods or a dedicated toy. I am very happy with the number of compliments, the feel of the car (extremely roomy even at 6'3"), and the price point.
  14. Depending on budget and goals, this would be my preferred route. Personally I love resto-mod/sleeper cars. A lot of your major components could be sourced from places like Car-Part.com and depending on mileage/goals can just go right in.
  15. I have not been on here in about 10 years so I figure that I probably belong in the intro section. I got out of performance modifications on cars for awhile and got into riding my Harley. Recently I purchased a 2015 Taurus SHO and the performance bug has bit me again. I am hopefully going to make it into the low 12's while keeping it a reliable DD that is comfortable.
  16. I did a DupliColor bed liner myself in my S10. The only complaint I had was my fault. I had never painted or anything before. When I sanded it (by hand) I did not rough up some areas enough. After about a year, I had a few spots flake and reveal smooth shiny paint. Wherever I sanded good, it held good.

  18. In addition to people who are mentally or physically handicapped, an exception to the law is given to “paupers or [those] who conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine,” he noted. If Obamacare had the same loophole, I and many others would not oppose it.

Cabella's is limiting purchases to 1 or 2 boxes depending on box quantity. All other ammo is 5 box limit.

  21. I do that already. At least it will still be light when I get home now!
  22. Got mine in the mail this weekend, THANKS!
  23. Interest rate is low (1.5% over prime sounds right). Payments are what you want them to be within limits (you decide the amount and the term up to 5 years). That being said, I currently have had 3 loans. Two for one year (to pay off higher interest longer term loans) and a 5 year (bought a vehicle). I think they work great and I am happy to pay myself interest. You do need to compare the loss/gain of not having that money on the market. If the economy booms you lose potential profit money because you haven't payed it back yet. If it tanks, you don't lose as much (basically gain) because you didn't have as much to crash. My one time (application/origination) fee was $75 on the first two and $125 on the last one.
