  1. I have a friend in Columbus who has a 4th gen Camaro with a plugged convertor. He would like to pay someone cash to have the catalytic convertors removed, a pipe put in their place and a MIL Eliminator or O2 Simulator installed and no check engine light when done. If the cat was removed and the computer reflashed that would work fine also. I have done work for him before and he has always paid cash in advance. The car is very clean, stored winters. It should not have alot of rust issues. If I remember correctly it is a 99. I no longer have access to a shop. If anyone is interested in the job please call me at 937-243-4521 so I can put him in touch with you.
  2. I don't keep up on drag racing so I had no clue this accident and the Kalitta accident were at the same place. However, I had seen this video on those world's scariest video type shows and it was the first thing I thought of. It amazes me the lack of shutdown area some tracks have.
  3. Not sure if they have cameras or not but that would have been pretty funny to see in court on video.. you brake checking a police cruiser. Sure fire way to lose your license for a very long time.

Not true. My father put a cop in the ditch when he brake checked him. The cop wrote him for reckless op. Fought it in court and the judge threw it out. Police have to follow all the same traffic laws as anyone else when they are driving around. Safe and assured distance was not maintained so he threw the ticket out.

As for leeway on a speedometer, according to Ford, ( I have not looked at others in specific but, I would assume they are similar) when you are diagnosing a speedometer accuracy issue, you compare it against a known car's speed or a radar reading and if it is within 5mph it is accurate. It is written that way in their diagnostic manuals, not just some technicain over the phone saying that.

  4. Bexley (I believe it is at Wolf Park) is always a good show. Park on a side street and come in from the side on foot. Way better/closer then sitting in the stands. It is Friday night.
  5. So why not go straight for the root cause of the problem, Booze. Another prohibition? Yea yea I know it will never happen, but if there is no booze then people can't drink and drive. problem solved. maybe? doubt it....

Unfortunately this problem will NEVER go away.

Prohibition caused more problems then it was worth. I think alot of it is that alcohol is a taboo. Look at the DUI rates in countries like Germany. You can get beer ANYWHERE at ANY AGE and they don't have near the problem we do. I also think another part of the problem is American's ego/attitude. It is a constant enviroment of one up-manship and the consequences are not my fault. It leads to many of America's problems however, that is for another thread. Treat Drunk Drivers as what they are, attempted murder. I don't mean negligent homicide either.

  6. Party plates, impounding cars, taking licenses, breathalyzer interlocks, etc. don't seem to have any affect. If you have multiple DUI's I see no reason not to charge you with attempted murder. Every single person in America knows the possible results. It is no different then taking a handful of blanks and a handful of live ammo throwing them in a bucket and pulling a random round out, then firing the gun into a crowd. I am sick of seeing loved ones and friend's getting killed or seriously injured because some asshat couldn't be responsible enough to hang his keys up before he started drinking and leave them there till they are sober. Anytime you drink and drive you put yourself and every other law abiding citizen at risk. This just closes loop holes that allow people to get out of DUI's. If people were more responsible laws like this wouldn't even be an issue. Try looking up foreign countries punishments for DUI and see which you like better. Many countries begin punishment at .02 bac. Third offense in Ontario gets you a lifetime suspension on your license. New Zealand sells your car, and forbids you from owning one for 1 year after multiple offenses. Any vehicle you own in the 1 year is also siezed and sold. Most countries also allow RANDOM breathalyzer. No reasonable suspicion needed. Alot of them also mandate a breathalyzer after any accident.

Here are examples of some other extreme reprecussions in foreign countries:

Australia The names of the drivers are sent to the local newspapers and are printed under the heading, "He's drunk and in jail."

Malaya The driver is jailed; if he's married, his wife is jailed too.

South Africa A 10 year prison sentence or the equivalent of a $10,000 fine or both.

Turkey Drunk drivers are taken 20 miles from town by the police and forced to walk back under escort

Norway Three weeks in jail at hard labor, one year loss of license. If the driver commits a second offense within five years, his license is revoked for life.

Finland Driver is automatically jailed for one year at hard labor.

Sweden Driver is automatically jailed for one year at hard labor.

Costa Rica Police remove plates from the offender's vehicle.

    Russia License revoked for life.

England One year license suspension, a $250.00 fine and jail for one year.

France Drivers are punished with a three year loss of license, one year in jail, and a $1,000 fine.

Poland Jailed and fined and forced to attend political lectures.

Bulgaria A second conviction results in execution

El Salvador Your first offense is your last, as punishment is execution by firing squad.

I kinda like El Salvador's solution.

  7. http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/24/2443.asp

That's bullshit 10x over. Shit nurses can barely take my blood due to small veins some untrained traffic cop is going to? Fuck all that noise I would end up in jail for assualting a officer. Thats such bs. Unlawful search and seisure comes to mine.

    I hate police states.

Straight from the article you posted - Although the law specifies that only "a physician, a registered nurse, or a qualified technician" can draw blood from a motorist,

The officers can only do it if they have gone through a training course.

Don't drink and drive, don't have a problem.

  8. Don't even bother with the hassle. Contact her insurance company and let them fight it out with the "uninsured" guy and the "at fault" lady. The guy may even have been driving someone else's car that did have insurance. That could bring in more time consuming work. Let your insurance handle it, that's what you pay them for.

  11. so he doubled his milage...hmm Wonder if I could double my current 50 MPG to 100!

I watched that earlier. and one thing that they failed to mention is that shutting the engine off (for cars with power steering) is that it stops working and makes it very hard to steer.

    :)

Or the fact that most steering wheels lock in the current position when the key is shut off and that you only have a couple of brake applications before you lose power assist. 50mpg might save you enough money to pay the deductible when you hit someone/something.

  12. Yeah, I'd say that's not half bad for the age and experience. I was making like $7.25 + commission at NTB for almost a year. It usually equaled out to about $9.00. ASE's will get your foot in the door, but they aren't that hard to pass so they don't mean a whole ton, but they usually get your foot in the door.

We hired a guy once when I worked at Saturn who was a master ASE, master Ford, and had a toolbox the size of my house, but he was the slowest person I've ever seen. Not only that, but he couldn't remember easy shit and had to ask me like 4-5 times a day. Needless to say he wasn't there long, but you can't bank on ASE's.

I would have to disagree. ASE is generally good for $.50 a cert. After only 5 yrs. in the industry I was working at NTB making $24/hr flat rate. That is generally what I was making at a couple other shops as well. The ASE Master Cert. makes people willing to work with you on the pay rate. $8/hr. is not bad for no cert. and in high school. Pep Boys is only offering $7.15 w/o certs. I would take the brake and suspension ASE tests. Once you get those 2 take the exhaust test. Those three will make you an Undercar Specialist. Nothing more then a title but it looks good. I have never worked in an exhaust shop and was able to pass the exhaust test on my first try despite pipe bender questions. The brake and suspension test are pretty much straight forward knowledge that anyone who works on cars should be able to think their way through.

I do agree that they are only pieces of paper and don't mean anything against experience but, unfortunatly businesses generally don't see it that way.

  13. 95% but, #8 is wrong according to the Ohio Revised Code

4511.27 Overtaking and passing of vehicles proceeding in the same direction.

    (A) The following rules govern the overtaking and passing of vehicles or trackless trolleys proceeding in the same direction:

    (1) The operator of a vehicle or trackless trolley overtaking another vehicle or trackless trolley proceeding in the same direction shall, except as provided in division (A)(3) of this section, signal to the vehicle or trackless trolley to be overtaken, shall pass to the left thereof at a safe distance, and shall not again drive to the right side of the roadway until safely clear of the overtaken vehicle or trackless trolley.

(A)(3) Doesn't seem to affect the side you pass on.

    (3) The operator of a vehicle or trackless trolley overtaking and passing another vehicle or trackless trolley proceeding in the same direction on a divided highway as defined in section 4511.35 of the Revised Code, a limited access highway as defined in section 5511.02 of the Revised Code, or a highway with four or more traffic lanes, is not required to signal audibly to the vehicle or trackless trolley being overtaken and passed.

  14. I saw one the other night where Drew said "Say 1, 2, 3 Alakazam and then open the box." So this blonde puts her hands on the sides of the lid and says "1, 2, 3 Alakazam open the box". She procedes to stand their waiting for the box to magically open itself while the whole audience laughs.

  16. you can make your own biodiesel for like 75 cents a gallon or so... or convert it to run off of grease :bangbang:

also, dont you get more MPG with diesel?

It is getting very expensive to get caught doing that.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/la-me-vegoil6-2008may06,0,1350934.story

There are stories like that all over the internet. Everything from road tax, fines, licensing fees, etc. makes it to expensive. I was reading another article about an IL. man that got fined and the paper said that Bio-Diesel is illegal in one state.

  17. I do not see why it would label her as fat. It says she is 4'9" and 6 stone (1 stone = 14 lbs) or 84 lbs. That results in a BMI of 18.2 or underweight? I'm all for brutally honest games if the are honest and not just brutal. Tell the fat kid shes fat and have her play the Fit game but, don't make more anorexic/bulemic girls please. They get older and grosser as time goes on.
  18. im lost, why compare a metro to a 25 mpg honda, why not compare it to a 15mpg car.. which prolly more likely in most cases where someones wants a "gas saver".

Which would be 750 a month. savings of 5625 a year.

edit: not 1 metro for 7 grand http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Cars-Trucks___metro_W0QQ_nkwZmetroQQ_catZ6001QQ_fromZR40QQ_pcatsZ6000

Because the lady in the article bought a Metro for $7300 to replace her Element.

"For the most part, Solomon plans on using the car for commuting from her home in Rochester, Washington, to her job. The vehicle she has now, a Honda Element, was getting 28 mpg and she was filling up twice a week, costing her nearly $100. Stations were charging $3.97 a gallon in her area Tuesday, she said. "
