  1. I always wear earplugs, and I can hear adjacent vehicles (especially emergency vehicles with sirens). After reading about the longterm effects of motorcycle riding on hearing loss, I will always wear them. After all, who really strictly follows our speed limits?

  2. Another motorcycling safety myth is the use of ear plugs. Some people believe that wearing ear plugs or other hearing protection is unsafe. Motorcycle riders can safely wear ear plugs and safely navigate traffic while hearing adjacent vehicles. Wearing ear plugs is very safe, and it reduces rider fatigue on long rides.

  3. After reading these arguments, I did a test at 75 mph today. With throttle lock engaged & holding the gas tank tank tightly with both hands, I successfully turned my motorcycle without using my hands. I know there are probably some skeptical people, but this statement is true. I leaned over, and I successfully turned my Concours from the fast lane to the middle lane.

  4. I would imagine that it is significantly more comfortable that the stock seat. I want to find someone that has the Baldwin Grand Touring Seat, so I can sit on one prior to spending the coin on one. I use a stock seat with a Spencer's long distance modification. It works well for short and intermediate trips. Getting over 500 to 600 miles in a day requires a few stops.

  5. this might be the problem, I have never cleaned it I just keep adding mink oil. My seat gets a lot of abuse, because it sit out in the dew at night when im at work and if I know im going to ride to work the next night ill leave it sit out in the sun all day on the sidewalk.

Don't sweat it. I have a 2008, and the only conditioner I use is rain water. My bike sits outside the vast majority of time between March and November during the daytime. It is my primary vehicle for commuting in the spring, summer, and fall. I park it in the garage at night or when I need to us my car for family obligations. My seat still looks good. I however do use an Alaskan Sheepskin over a modified stock seat. If your bike is stock, the seat is a synthetic material that is designed for a long life. Enjoy!

  6. While I agree that ape hangers are stupid, you cannot turn a motorcycle without turning the bars. The bike will not lean unless you turn the wheels out from under it.

Shifting your weight (on its own) will not cause the bike to turn.

Definitely. I have heard from inexperienced riders that believe the myth that a motorcycle can be turned strictly by leaning on it. The video Twist of the Wrist 2 has a really good demonstration regarding this issue.
