Would like to get that engine stand from you.
-
Anything I put together will see the street, and don't worry Phillip I have no life outside of cars so dumping all my money into this is fine with me. I wanna go 9s and still start it up drive it to work, and buy pump gas. It'll happen, might not be next year, but eventually. I'm in no hurry now, I have my Miata to play with, this can take forever for all care.

+1 Looks good to me. -
Anyone think this engine I built is worth something? How about the 1k mile Performabuilt level 1 4L60? making multiple random posts in a 2 year old project thread FTMFW
-
Next comes the trans, and this one will be easy for me. I've had different 4L60s, and fully build one would work, but a 4L80 may work a little better gearing and strength wise. Which leads me to the engine and power adder. Since I cannot afford to make my power goals without a power adder, and I've already done nitrous I guess altimatly it will get a turbo. I wish to do that and end up around 800 wheel. This will be a next few years project of getting the engine/turbo together, because it will be done properly. I only wish to do this once and need to come up with the right balance of budget and quality to meet my goals. The car currently has a LQ4 block and crank with Mahle forged pistons, Scat h-beams ARP 2000 rod bolts, ARP main studs, TSP 233-239 cam, and some hand ported shitty 853 casting LS1 heads. The engine is still running stong, and has good compression. It still dynos the same as it did right after break in. I cannot decide to keep this shortblock, or plan on something better. Thoughts?

cliffs? I'm going to ramble on and on about my car.

So a lot has taken place since I played with this thread. The 9" broke it's posi, I replaced it with a spool, got tired and sold it. The transmission/converter combo came out and got sold. I installed a slightly weaker but a much more stock feeling trasmission and 3000 stall Circle D converter. I also put a stock 10 bolt in place with 3.23 gears, sold all the nitrous parts. I was able to do all this keeping the car driveable and in good shape while scraping together a down payment on my house. Over the last year I didn't drive it much, and to be honest was pretty bored with the car regardless. I started playing with my MazdaSpeed Miata. I have had a good time and really enjoy that car, but now that I have taken care of my family and I have other reliable cars to drive the Camaro will have to come back to life. I miss the car being fast, so I have some ideas that I'd like some feedback on. First obviously it needs a strong rear axle. I liked the 9" for some reasons and hated it for others. It was heavy, but strong, I liked how the torque arm mounted, but I absolutley hated how the torque arm and everythign was always on a bind. I never made it all work correctly. It really needed a torque arm to align it properly, it still really needs the poly bushings repaced. The car scared me a few times because the rear suspension would bind up, and everything is worn out. So my choices are to go back to that and work it out correctly this time, or a 12 bolt. I like the size and weight of a 12 bolt, but I'm uneasy about the torque arm mount. What I read is some people think it'll cause some case deflection and will lead to gear whine. This is why I didn't buy a 12 bolt the first time. Then there is the topic of differential, and I'm thinking of going with another posi, the spool was streetable but annoying so I don't want that again. The Wavetrac is just too expensive, so I guess an Eaton or Truetrac is in my future. Any thoughts on any of this?

Thats got to be a good feeling finding those. Congrats.

Honestly my comment is a little narrow minded too, as it's really only the 6 speed autos that are internal.
-
Our diesel tech doesn't see many in the shop, so I would assume thats a good sign as well. Seems like he's always working on older high mileage, or maintenence, or injectors. Don't see much of the newer ones though.
-
I'll bet you can't, almost all new GMs have the TCM as part of the transmission valvebody. There were some prior to those that were external, but not alot.
-
So I know who Greg Banish is, and have read his books, I have to ask what did you really learn from this DVD? I'm dead serious in considering buying it, but unless its going to teach some advanced injector scaling or something I don't want it.

So they are the ones that are all the same length? Yeah that won't work for me. -

If you have a complete new head bolt set for $40 I'll take them. -
I can appreciate a clean notch, welcome.

Pretty typical, is it possible that any of the stored codes prevented it from looking at the ECT sensor? This type of thing happens all the time with GM, the car will see an issue with something and stop running self-diagnosis on other sub-systems. You guys are putting a little to much thought into it. It's good to know there are techs like Sean smart enough to look at data and not try to diag off of codes alone. Not trying to start shit, just sayin.
-
I've never had an issue like that with them, however I take steps to avoid even having that type of discussion. Like telling them I'm replacing an existing aftermarket radio. Next time order the radio from a place like crutchfeild, I got my last one from them for my 2010 Silverado. They incuded everything to install it for $50 which was great considering everywhere else wanted $125-150 for just the wire harness/module. FYI all late model GMs have the radio on their data bus circuitry so an aftermarket radio is not easily installed without an interface module, which are not cheap. However I'm not positive your Bonneville, but it's a little old to have that set-up and should just need the interface so Onstar will still play through your speakers. You're probably right.

Really was an intersting group, cool to see wanaplay, Mensen, Mjrsplat, BeaterCamaro, and me in the same room. Plus the movie was pretty good.
-
A few of us here now, come on out.
-
Haven't seen one with that issue, and a quick search of bullitens reveals nothing. Scanning it for codes like Sean said would be a good place to start, but as Buck found out recently that bringing a car in for me scan gets to be a PITA unless you are willing to pay.
-
Not sure if i'll catch the movie with you, but I'm deffenitly down for the hangout.

Thats actually a really good video, it really captures the dyno experience and gives a good impression for someone who has never been there. On the other hand it's obvious Dyno Brian is bored and racing season is over.

this is about as dumb

Already? http://static2.fjcdn.com/thumbnails/comments/I+ve+seen+so+much+weird+shit+on+tumblr+and+other+_7eeb9a79c6385fd6b65182f6e22030b1.jpg I never claimed to be smart or witty, but at least this pic has decent side boob.
