  1. Does anyone know if I have to wear full jeans/pants? Would rather wear shorts but I know some tech inspectors require pants

Long pants have always been a thing for drag racing. Autocross not so much. If it were me I'd throw a pair of pants in the car just in case because if you're just running a street car you may get away with it.

  2. I would think if there was an issue something within the systems of his car would be flashing a light and notifying him. No lights or warnings, likely no issues.

That depends on the vehicle in question, I can tell you GM won't flash anything in most of its full time AWD systems, but it will bind and cause damage. These systems I'm refering to have no way to disengage so they aren't "smart" enough to know of any issues. Even like a Traverse with part time AWD won't warn you it'll just burn up the clutch at the rear diff.

  3. Yes it does matter, but generally tires that are close will not cause an issue. My training all comes from General Motors and they have a somewhat over thought out process to measure rollout. The 3/32nds rule is pretty good in most cases, you really need an extreme difference in wear to cause damage in most all wheel drive vehicles. However I can tell you Subaru is probably the most sensitive, they take the "symmetrical" in symmetrical all wheel drive seriously.

For the record I have fixed a few AWD issues because some idiot just put 2 new tires on a vehicle even though the other 2 were worn out too. Thus causing a big difference in rollout, which is the real reason any of this matters.

  4. So what is the car built for?

Not for drag racing. To be honest I really wanted to take the whole car to a higher level, making it go, steer, and stop better. So in short it's not really built for anything, it's just built for me. This is also why I'm not selling it.

  5. I'll be there serving up some bbq.. No more starving at track days..

Awesome, I'll look forward to that.

Wife didn't want me to miss the track day, so even though it's our anniversary she's pushing me to go. She loves me.

  6. Austin is right on the money, there isn't much of a margin on tires (or batteries and fluids for that matter). IMHO Tire Rack is hard to beat, may not always be the cheapest when shopping on the internet, but at least you'll get good tires from a company that stands behind their products. I've bought a ton of tires online, typically the cheapest are so old they're almost not worth using. Granted the tires I bought earlier this year were from Derek but he basically saved me shipping from Tire Rack, especially since I just install them myself.
  7. I don't know what your number was at but there were about 20 or so people that were about to sign up before it was cancelled.

Try not to take this the wrong way, but it wasn't cancelled it was postponed. We've been asking for people to commit to it for weeks, so waiting until the last minute wasn't helping. Hopefully your 20 people can come on the 24th.

  8. I actually like Melissa McCarthy....anyone is better than fucking Amy Schumer or however you spell her last name. Can't even stand the sight of her.

This. Amy Schumer is a left wing annoying cunt who makes shitty movies and worse comedy. I'm not a big Melissa McCarthy fan but I don't mind her.

  9. My biggest problem with this is only 1 lane for street tires and one for slicks, I'll bet the street tires out number the slicks 3 to one, then I have to sit and wait longer to make a pass, is this true? Dont want to be there 4 hours to make 3 passes.

If you have to wait more then 15 minutes to make a pass then someone made a mess on the track. I have been to most CR track days for the last 10 years it's nothing like you're thinking.

  10. What I read in the media is that the powers that be, have decided those that are dead are dead and will not be brought back. I think it’s shitty they put out black superhero’s in their own movie, had nephews that were so stoked to see it and loved it. Was really cool to talk after and see them play. Next movie, he’s gone.....

Haven’t seen either movie FWIW, just feel bad for my nephews and nieces that got one movie to inspire them and that’s it.

Well I'm not sure how that's the case. Some of these actors have contracts and other movies that have been announced that contradicts the characters that disappeared so...

  11. Saw it last night. Love it. Disclaimer: I am a total Marvel fan boy, so I can kind of like even really awful Marvel movies, like Fantastic Four and Green Lantern.

A:IW was fantastic, IMO - right up there with my favorites. I think I still put the first Avengers as my favorite just because it so totally blew my mind, but A:IW is top 3 no doubt.

Whoever said Thor - Ragnarok was great was spot on.

I also agree with everyone who says that Black Panther didn't live up to the hype. It didn't, but that's mostly because people were calling it the greatest movie ever made. It's middle of the pack for Marvel movies (since 2008); a decent movie, satisfying, but no where near the level of any of the Avengers movies or even Thor - Ragnarok or Civil War.

    Some other random thoughts:

    - I really like Thanos. This was more a Thanos movie than anything. I like his complexity. Like, I totally got it: devotion to some crazy ideal utopia that involves genocide on a universal level that involves massive sacrifice (literally), loving on some level his adopted daughter who loves/hates him, etc.

    - Hulk is one of my favorite characters. I was in shock when Thanos jacked him up in hand-to-hand combat.

    - I laughed out loud several times, especially whenever the Guardians of the Galaxy were talking about Thor. That writing / their delivery is so good. I'm not sure how they keep pulling it off - as like we all expect them to be funny - and yet they do, but in such a non-forced way. It's just brilliant.

    - on Titan, with the big fight scene where they nearly had the gauntlet off Thanos' hand, the shot where they all have Thanos pinned was so visually spectacular and reminded me of exactly what it would look like in a comic book.

    - the Black Order was legit. I found myself wanting to see movies just about them. Ebony Maw, for instance, seemed incredibly complex and interesting despite the fact that we are just introduced to him and he has relatively little screen time.

    - when Dr. Strange agrees to give Thanos the time stone in exchange for Stark's life, am I the only one who thought, "Oh, so that 1 scenario where the Avengers win out of the 14 million+ future scenarios where they don't that Strange saw must have involved Thanos getting the time stone" --- ?

    - so we all kind of know somehow time will be reversed and all of this mass obliteration will be undone, but I'm interested in seeing how exactly that plays out. I just hope they don't get too crazy with the time travel stuff.

    - speaking of time travel, are what we are seeing just 1 of many realities, one that has been played out before in some fashion? Here I am reminded of Stark's vision of seeing all the Avengers dead (remember the part with Cap's shield being ripped?), Thanos saying he knows Stark, and then the other part where Thanos makes reference on screwing up his destiny once before and be unwilling to do it again. So, did all of this happen once, where Thanos won, Avengers were dead, etc. only to have been reversed in some fashion so that now we are watching some alternate ending (that will, of course, end up the same way, with Thanos screwing it up somehow and the Avengers surviving)?

As you can probably tell, I'm just looking for someone to talk to about this movie. I tried to talk to my wife about it this morning when she asked about it. Of course, I led out with, "Well, so there's this guy called Thanos, and he's like mega-strong, and he wanted this gauntlet, and..." to which she promptly interrupted, said "I don't really care, just wanted to know if you liked it" and then walked away. I would divorce her if I wasn't so begrudgingly impressed with that move.

Best review of the movie I have read, will read again.

I like the theory about the soul stone playing Thanos. Making him think it all happened. That scene was a little odd to me where Gamora disappears into oblivion and Thanos wakes up with the soul stone. I feel like that's a possibility for them to expand on that as the whole thing just being a misdirection. I don't know.

The thing that I found so great about the movie is how it left most people and in shock at the end. My daughter and I were honestly mad when we left the theater. After it sank in of course I want to see the next movie, that's genius.

  12. welp. nevermind. just talked to my son and he said he has a 2.8 he's tearing apart. wonder how bad the swap would be? He has a 5 spd in it.

The swap wouldn't be hard, it would bolt in. I'd assume your sons truck is a TBI 4.3, so you need the wiring, ECM, and fuel system from the CPI truck. Fuel pump in the tank is different because CPI has higher fuel pressure. Overall it would be easier then a 3800 in a Fiero.

If it's a 4.3 truck why is he fucking with a 2.8? That's not the same at all. Different bellhousing, different mounts, different exhaust manifolds/y-pipe. That sure sounds counter productive.

  13. Used to go to that station all the time, I guess my suspicions of them not keeping up on the place were right. Shame you had to deal with that, it's shitty. Had my card skimmed at the Speedway just down from there. I'm about ready to move, this is just yet another annoying thing about the area.
  14. Shifter placement is a big question mark right now. I'm going to look into that tonight and see what's what. The magnum has 2 shifter options, as long as one is close then so be it

The whole reason I didn't just buy a Magnum when I swapped my car is because it doesn't put the shifter even close. The are some companies who modify the Magnum to use the f-body tailhousing but it adds alot to the price. Honestly I wish I had just coughed up the money for it.

  15. You may want to research shifter placement, there are a ton of options. However short of a remote mount shifter like the newer TR6060, the f-body/GTO T56 has the shift box much further back then your typical Magnum trans.

So let's make it simple, buy LQ9, install damn near any camshaft, and you'll make 400ish wheel. Or buy an LQ4, buy some used 799 heads to bump compression, install same what the fuck ever camshaft, and make over 400 wheel. Spend a little more on some head porting or an intake and make a little more.

Picking out a camshaft is where you'll get a different opinion from everyone. Spend some time reading camshaft stuff on Brian Tooley's or Texas Speed's or Cammotion's websites. Person nally for a weekend toy, as opposed to a drag car, I'd want something in the 23x duration, .550-.625 lift cams. Would be a decent option in a 6.0l.

  16. As for a vehicle I'd look into something that came with a video factory... S-series are cheap and the parts are there but it gets expensive quick.

What the hell are you trying to say? What's a factory video? Or video factory? Something built during the glory days of Blockbuster Video.

  17. The differences between one 4.8 to another 4.8, or 5.3 to 5.3 is minimal. Biggest difference is generation and block material. Going gen 4 you get a better rod, arguably stronger with floating wrist pins. Gen 4 engines also typically run a different crank, cam, and knock sensor configurations then a gen 3, but is not usually a big deal just something to consider when choosing a correct ECM and harness. When it comes to 6.0 engines the big difference beyond generation id if it has dished pistons or not, the most popular engine the LQ4 has dished pistons, LQ9 has flat tops, everything else is the same. Get into newer stuff and there's a ton of different RPO codes and variations, but things are easily adapted no matter which one you start with.

In my opinion it's a toss up between the three truck engines, the 4.8 will easily rev with a cam change and it's usually cheaper. The 5.3 is plentiful, cheap, and very versatile. The 6.0 typically costs a few bucks more, but you run bigger heads and get more out of it. An aluminum block is great, I won't talk it down, but eveyone seems to think they are worth a lot more. The weight difference is about 88 pounds between the iron and aluminum blocks, I honestly don't see that being a big difference maker in performance for most people. Otherwise the two blocks are basically identical in design. If I had a lightweight car I think I high spinning 4.8 would be fun. If I wanted more power a boosted 5.3 could make over 500 wheel and be daily driven without any ill effects.

You'll figure out what you want...maybe....or I suppose this is Grant's flavor of the week this time.
