Current plan has me going to mexico with @Danimal, so we are both probably not coming.

I'm still a maybe... starting a new company on Monday and need to see how that's going to go.  I'd like to go but already planned a vacation to BANF National Park in July and the summer months are usually pretty heavy work loads so we will have to see.  Just depends on how hard @whaler works me.

  2. I've heard nothing but good things about N2.  I'm sure it's a great organization and I'm excited to get out and do my first couple N2 days, but the Novice PTR day through Mid-Ohio is so well structured and would be a better starting place for a beginner rider who wants to test out the track *such as the situation with @Pauly's son Isaac*.  Not having to worry about getting passed, learning the proper lines, learning how to get on and off the track properly and safely are all important tools to learn for a new rider.

Take him to an N2 track day at PIRC. Jester is a control rider for N2 and azn tim is always there. I haven't ran mid o, but everyone tells me Pitt is a better track and has better pavement.

    Excuse my unsolicited advice.

If you rode COTA I'm sure you could say that PIRC is trash in comparison, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't ride it.    Yes, MID-O traction sucks in the wet, but pick a solid day in the summer and you'll have a blast.  Plus, MID-O novice days I believe are way more structured than N2.  No passing, etc.

I think that's a better option for a beginner rider.

Looking at the classes, the ttr110  fits a class.   Can I put street tires on one of our ttr110s and try a race day? (or is that bike only for kids?)  I have a 1 piece textile firstgear suit.  Would this be suitable for a first time race day? If I like it, I can buy a leather suit and another bike.

If you want to race a TTR 110, you can race a TTR110.  Throw some street tires on it and come out.  You'll also want to at the very minimum safety wire the oil drain bolt/fill cap and remove the kickstand.

Depending on what is done to the bike will determine which class you can run it in.

StockMoto and F3 are the classes you'd likely run.

Here are the stockmoto rules in regards to TTR110

    image.png.47fa11868b3d61c1f8937e1f7e90aaff.png

If the bike isn't setup to the above rules, you can race it in F3.

Textile is fine for your first race, but just a reminder that if you crash, it could end your weekend if the suit doesn't hold up.    Watched @what crash in a 2 piece speed & strength leather suit and the zipper completely destroyed and ended his weekend.  Just figured I'd throw that out there.   We are really lenient on a lot of things and everyone will go out of there way to ensure you can race and be safe.  Just keep general safety items in mind and you won't have a problem.

Also if not having the bike is the issue, a lot of guys will let you run their CRF's on practice day to test it out and if you really want to go all out I'm sure someone will have a rental bike you could rent for like $60 for the weekend.

  5. Yes, honestly don't wear a 3000$ airbag suit because your incredibly likely to go down a few times your first couple weekends as you acclimate to the bike (if you are trying to push yourself to learn).

Find a nice suit for cheap and bring it!  Hell, Jacob was wearing a suit held together by duct tape at one point because he didn't want to wear his brand new suit for OMRL.

Also I wear a Shoei GT Air which isn't Snell approved and no-one has said a thing.  Pretty much as long as you are taking the steps to protect yourself, no-one will really say anything.  Just remember, crashing still hurts if you aren't wearing the right gear whether it's legal or not!

As always, I have an extreme desire to let other people run the absolute hell out of my XR.  You new to the track or racing?  My bike is 100% yours for the stock moto class.  I'll still race it in F3 and maybe supermoto so I won't be missing out on my fun, come on out folks, it's a hoot!

Even better yet, I'm looking at picking up a spare bike at some point in the near future so there will likely be a bike just waiting for someone to hop on to and race the F outta it.

  7. Good time seeing everyone as usual.   Thank you for organizing the event @ricer1  --- Thank you for providing the food as well.

Also thanks to Skidmark Garage for allowing us hooligans to come check out the place.  I dig the idea of what they have going on and really cool they are trying to push a Non-Profit to getting kids into working on bikes at school!

Glad to see @Danimal getting back to full health and in good spirits!  Nice meeting the new one @SherBear2bliss -- Sorry we didn't talk much but was a pleasure meeting you.  Look forward to seeing you at future events!

Also nice to see everyone else. @TimTheAzn @kbrok @Pauly @tall_tracy

See ya'll at the next one.  FUCK WINTER

I don't think I met her, but have heard her mentioned.  Very sad.

    Anyone know what happened?

From what I've heard from friends, she had battled depression over the past couple years and sadly took her own life.

Hi there, I'm a new rider in the Akron area looking for people to get out and ride with. I have a Ninja 300 that I love to bits. I've been enjoying the forum so far, would be great to meet some of you!

Welcome... Also from the Akron area.  How long you been riding?

Dont think I've seen Vale or Marquez on a mini bike since they grew tall enough to ride a full sized bike with the exception of publicity events. They ride supermotos on dirt tracks for training, thats about as close as they come from what I've seen.

Herrin races mini-bikes all the time at the Herrin Compound with the exact bikes we race in OMRL.. he has quite a few of the MotoAmerica guys attend as well I believe.

Granted, Herrin isn't on MotoGP level, but he's certainly on a level far superior to any of us.

  11. I think mostly everyone who rides Minis also rides big bikes on the track as well.  They both teach valuable lessons, but I can assure you that I became a much more proficient rider on my big bike as a result of the things I've learned on the OMRL bike.

It's cheap, they crash well so you can learn your limits and they don't have pristine brakes or suspension... so you learn how a bike feels in different situations without much risk of doing tons of expensive damage to a bike or to yourself.

Are big bike track days fun? Absolutely...  but they're far more expensive and thus... less time to do those types of things.

My only argument is if you HAVEN'T tried mini-bike racing, you really can't talk about it one way or the other.  And you mostly don't have an excuse to not try it as there are plenty of guys on the boards here that are willing to lend their bike for ABSOLUTELY FREE to come try it out on a practice day.

I dunno... I just don't see why someone wouldn't want to at least try it....

In the end, everyone has their own agenda of fun...

Mine just is currently racing mini-bikes for $70 for an entire weekend for 2 days of riding and fun having.
