  1. So I talked with the warranty service person and the tech who are working on my bike.  They requested a crate motor and Triumph responded saying they don't have one available.  :dunno:  They now have to completely tear down the bottom end and potentially/likely the transmission to see where every issue is and individually request those parts.  Nobody at the dealership is happy about that but it sounds like they are going to basically request a whole motor minus the case.  I'm good with that.  At the end of the day, I'm thrilled the issue will be taken care of, disappointed in how long it's taking, but overall I'm feeling good.  At least that's what I keep telling myself!  haha

I’d think they would obviously be putting in new valves, piston and rings. The things I would be concerned about on top of that are the rod and valve guides. Looks like there was some major contact with the piston and valves there. I’d be asking about all the shrapnel that went through your motor as well. My advice is just based off of damage I’ve done to single cylinder quad motors, so others may have better advice. Sorry to hear they’re changing things up on you. I hope they get the bike back to you before the end of the season and it’s as good as new when you get it.

New valves, pistons, rings, hone cyclinder(s)?  Loads of shrapnel for sure, thing grenaded.  Part of the issue with this is, if they do have to grind the motor, who is going to do that?  Dealer doesn't have those tools and I don't know a shop around that would touch a warranty engine job.  And I'm a tool and die machinist!  I'd rather wait until next year if that meant I got a totally fresh motor.  Season is about over and I have the Ducati still.  Can't float a valve on that!

They going to hone the cyl? What about the head? It looks mangled. I'd be pretty pissed at them wanting to rebuild it. More time, more money, more of a chance they didn't put it back together right.

My concerns exactly.  I would imagine they'd need to hone the cylinder and mill the head at a minimum.  How does it go back to stock with that work done?  Don't know yet.  I'm going to the dealer after work and hope to talk with the tech about the game plan.

  4. @what who was the coach we had at MidO when it was just two of us in his group?   Eric Spector?  Hes a motorcycle lawyer.

    Yes: http://www.riderswin.com/

Jim, I talked to Eric, he does work in Ohio (he lives in Michigan) and has two other lawyers in Ohio who could be a resource for you if you haven't found anyone yet.  He's a cool dude, good rider (as if that matters here!).

  5. Floated a valve on the Daytona early this season.  Destroyed piston 3 etc.  I'm under warranty and thought Triumph was sending a crate motor until now.  Turns out they want to rebuild it.  What questions do I need to ask or things to be aware of as they do this.  Not happy about this turn if events, and while I am confident in the dealer to do their best work, I would have preferred an OEM drop in solution.

Guess I better not get one...talk about lapped traffic "Hey Dave, the race is over!" "OVER? I JUST NOW finished 1 lap!!!"

No, you need one asap.  Or just come hang out at a race some time.  Race today in Circleville.  September 8th in Circleville also, then September 15/16 practice/race in Camden, Ohio at G&J Kartway.  That's @Helmutt and @snot's hometown track.

Lapped traffic in practice? How do you have lapped traffic in practice?

    That being said... throw elbows

General shit talking dude, you ought to know that.  Hehe

Kevin was getting familiar with the antiquated OMRL machine.   It's a little different than his RSV4.

All I can say is that at least he was out there giving it a go... unlike some people...

Yeah, I gotta give the guy a hard time when his real bike makes the power of 25 XRs!  It's one reason I love it so much, make fun of your buddies in the pits and on track and laugh about it all night.

The shot @tall_tracy got of me on the ground with a tipped over xr?  I fell over coming into the pits after the last practice Saturday afternoon.  Like a dumbass.  Hahaha

I feel like I need the story here?

@kbrok was lapped traffic during practice and didn't know I was coming up fast on the corner before and I got nudged into the grass.  All in good fun, but I had to show my displeasure.

  10. Kids under 12 race free and have their own ~50cc class.  MX gear is fine for them.  Obviously leathers are best, but if the kid isn't running a hot pace, nobody cares.  Hell, there's a kid who raced in snow pants and boots on a bike with knobbies.  It's all about the fun.

Someone said that was a 65, not an 85 - does anyone know for sure what it was?  I have to go back to see if I have any photos of it, it was one of my favorites.  That little bike was wicked fast.

It was a 65, I talked to my newest sponsor, Kenda Tires, about the bike and confirmed motor size.  Don't remember the make.

As far as bike rental, I'll gladly let anyone here race/crash my bike as much as they want for free if you come down for a race or practice day.  It's so much fun.  First one's free.

Also, I'm happy with my '99XR for what it is, cheap and reliable, but the newer CRFs are faster probably because the motors are not as abused as the older ones.  Parts are totally interchangeable from '87 or so on.
