I have to say, someone out there keeps proving there is a need for an enclosed trike but I have no idea who keeps propagating that lie. I don't think an enclosed trike will ever be fuckable and people don't want cars that make them look un-fuckable even if they aren't enthusiasts. The landscape is littered with enclosed trikes going back to the invention of the car, and yet none have ever been all that successful. The most successful I can think of are the Reliant Robin, Messerschmitt KR200, and bmw Isetta. There is a guy here in town with a Trihawk, which was an 80's version of this same concept (but with a convertible soft top). There are like 5 different trikes based off the BEDE5 jet front fuselage alone and none of them have ever made it beyond a couple hundred units.

Just so you know, the company pays lobbyists - not solicits money from them. Why are they paying lobbyists? well your link below explains it: If you want to fault Elio for something it is for being silicon valley tech douches in thinking they were coming up with something new just because they were doing it, when the thing they were doing has been tried to death dozens of times before. In all previous attempts by other companies, there is one thing those companies were not confused about - three wheel vehicles are motorcycles, not cars. They built their business models around that premise because it's easier to work with the way the system is flowing than to have the laws changed. Elio didn't get that memo and really wanted their 3 wheel vehicles to be cars, even though for the last 70 years three wheelers are motorcycles. now if you want to talk how this is further stupidity: well motorcycles don't have to meet crash safety standards, if they get the elio vehicles' classification changed to meet the definition of cars then yes they get access to a pile of grant money, subsidies, and tax incentives, but now they have to meet crash safety standards...oh and polaris, harley, t-rex, can am and a dozen other builders will suddenly have to meet those standards too for the trikes they build, so it's not like they are pushing in a way the industry is going also. They have plenty to show the public. They have built 8 cars (5 functional prototypes, and 3 evaluation models for required emissions and safety testing. The short answer is: "Good Faith". What does that mean? well it means competency is not a requirement for a business venture in the US. You can be the dumbest motherfucker alive, but if people gave you money and you acted in "good faith" to make that money into more money, and you didn't because you are the dumbest motherfucker alive, then you have not done anything illegal. Basically, if you intent is to scam people you are a criminal, but if you really intend to built the stupidest looking tadpole trike and you found people that think your idea isn't stupid enough to keep them from giving you money - then have fun turning money into air. so where did the money go? labor. With any startup like this the labor costs are usually the highest, and the problem with labor costs is you can't always point to a physical thing and say here is the fruit of our labor. They hired engineers and designers to design and build the car from nothing (and they built 8), administrative assistants, accountants, sales reps, etc...basically all the things a company needs to operate before there is any revenue rolling in. Then there are the legal fees for things like SEC filings, negotiating and contracting with suppliers, state governments, etc....also more lawyers to defend against lawsuits and represent them in actions like the $500K fine Louisiana levied against them...I mean just talking about it I think the legal fees alone could be tens of millions. Does some of this include CEO compensation? sure - they get paid too, but it isn't illegal to pay the CEO a fair market salary (even if people think CEO salaries are too high in general). and it all comes down to - well their financial statements are public, and so far nobody has filed suit for fraud (and trust me there are shareholders who just look for stuff like this and are ready to file shareholder's derivative suits at any time) so can you prove they are a fraud and not just stupid? my guess is stupid is as far as you are going to get. Personally here is my list of stupid decisions that are not in bad faith or fraud: - Designing their own engine. There are literally hundreds of other small efficient engines they could have sourced, but they had to have their own. Why? All the advantages that come with your own engine are better for a larger company, not a startup. - Going public as a way to raise funds BEFORE you had a product figured out. This is actually quite normal for a lot of industries but in Elio's case going public means you are no accountable to anybody who buys your stock for your stupid decisions - and they can fuck with you if they don't like the decisions you are making by firing people you hire and voting to restrict your power. - taking deposits for a product that hasn't completed certification. Unfortunately this is also common, and it is common for vehicle startups as a source of fund raising. However, elio's small deposit amount was less fundraising and more publicity stunt. Usually things like this have high deposits to weed out the not serious, and to cut down on the number of plaintiffs if you fail - but a $100 deposit? yeah that's a lot of plaintiffs, and I don't think every $100 deposit was going to result in a sale if the car came through anyway.
  4. if the evaporator is turning into a block of ice it usually isn't low on charge. There are a couple of reasons why this happens but most of them are related to airflow over the evaporator. Blocked or partially air filter, restriction in the fan, burned out fan motor, clog in the charge line, failure of the check valve to shut it off when ice builds up, etc.... The evaporator works by having continuous air blowing over it as part of regulating it's temp while the gas passes through it. If the airflow doesn't or the charge slows down, it ices up and then it doesn't work at all since the fan can't blow through a solid.
  5. You two should just shut up and dock penises already. sheesh.
  6. so not CL....but....everyone needs more eagle and snake murals in their life: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-Replica-Kit-Makes-shelby-cobra-427-roadster-2-door-/322649810585?hash=item4b1f6d6699:g:JdQAAOSwfRdZF5DD&vxp=mtr http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/sicAAOSwCQZZF5DE/s-l500.png
  7. I agree...I've seen enough rusty squarebodies lately that $2800 for a cleanish one is the nice side of the market, even in this depressed collector car economy.
  8. To be fair, some of the cars are runners, but most are not. I think that was part of his buying strategy - buy something running but with problems for cheap and then very very slowly fix it or let wait till he gets around to it and then he never gets around to it. He's got 3 cars on CL right now (buick, Saab 900, merc SL) that run but all need "something" to be reliable.
  9. you know, "bigger" displacement wise doesn't always mean "faster" right? I love sportsters but on a good day most 1200cc sportys only make around 60hp. They do make 70+ ft/lbs of torque which means they can haul out from a stop light but if you are riding any kind of 650cc japanese sportbike or standard (like a ninja 650) you aren't getting a bump in speed or HP. That's a pretty great price for a 1200 sporty, even one that started as an 883. Congrats!.
  10. I can't even.... https://kokomo.craigslist.org/cto/d/2006-hertz-shelby-gt-mustang/6312041557.html So....Shelby did make a supercharged V6 in 2006 called the CS6. It was not a Hurst car and actually the production of the CS6 was cut short because of the Hertz contract. He did make a GT-H in 2006 but every single goddamn one was a v-8. So what the hell is this? as near as I can tell it's a base 6 cyl mustang that someone transferred almost all of the GT-H v8 stripes, sill plates, and badging over to including the CSM number. weird.
  11. here's a bunch of his cars on CL: https://annarbor.craigslist.org/search/cto?query=Ron betcha there are some bargains to be had. That Capri makes me weak in the knees.
  12. ok, here is the out of style modified corvette trifecta: the Miami Vice Cocaine edition: https://erie.craigslist.org/cto/d/1987-greenwood-corvette/6311029427.html Greenwood wheels = hotness, magenta paint = notness. Given the 80's ness of it I am surprised it doesn't have the stick on Testarossa faux door vents.
  13. so what have you actually done to this car? I saw where you said it was stock intake and cam, maybe stock bottom end.....what's not stock?
  14. and just so you have a matched pair of extremely dated custom corvettes, this one looks straight out of 1969: https://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/d/custom-1964-corvette/6287059578.html six tallights, flared fenders, full length front bumper, roll bar (that's not good for anything), cragar ribbed wheels, and a C3 bb hood scoop. Get your flare leg jeans out and your Aquarius medallion and go cruzin'.....
  15. ok so this one is subtle: https://westmd.craigslist.org/cto/d/chevy-corvette-convertible/6309184331.html pop up headlight delete (headlights are in the grille under the bumper), keystones, Hurst T-handle, Candy Freak dot and flames paint, side pipes (yeah I know they are factory), finned BB chevy valve covers, and sheepskin seat covers. It's like the thing drove right out of 1975. I love it.
  16. The concern I have with kids and car seats lately comes from the recent trend of side, curtain, and seat airbags. Those explosive little pillows are more harmful to children than most people think and one of the reasons I like car seats with side impact protection is not to protect from the other car or the forces in an accident, but to put a little protective barrier between my kid and this rapidly inflating pillow that is exploding next to her head. I know that statistically speaking side impact airbags are safe for children, but all of those tests were performed with children in car seats...so....why not replicate the environment that yielded the safest results. I've had adult friends injured by airbags, why not take the extra steps and protect a child from them as well. I have let my kid rid in the front seat of my jeep from time to time, sometimes on a booster and sometimes not. She's tall enough for the belt now and the car does not have any airbags. The jeep seldom has a rear seat in it these days and with the booster back there the fold and tumble seat doesn't have any head protection so the front seat is actually safer.
  17. here is what you do: Find a local salvage yard in Van Wert that will pay you literally anything for the festivas. There are two so it shouldn't be difficult. Drive up with borrowed truck and trailer, take festivas to junkyard one at a time. get paid. go back, put f150 on trailer, drive home. Flip f150 to me for cheap. Profit. The Festivas are junk. you can buy a running one on CL for a couple hundred bucks. Nobody wants it and you shouldn't waste your time with trying to move it to your house. Esp if there are going to be title problems in dealing with a deceased's estate.
  18. nice score. That seat you have isn't the stock HD seat. I don't know where it came from but Iron 883's don't come with a passenger pillion. Actually the stock seat is usually pretty comfy for a solo seat. All sporty seats from 1996-2003 will fit your bike. Some of the later one might, or might not, it's hit or miss. most of the aftermarket seats are thinner than stock instead of thicker. You may have to try sitting on a few before you find a decent one. A good place to start might be mustang's "touring" solo saddle. It's pretty cushy.
  19. Yeah, wanna make something of it? I tried to give the gun to their parents but they didn't know where it came from and didn't want it. At that point it was put it in the trash or put it in the garage, till I get around to seeing what's wrong with it. It could be something as dumb as dirt in the loading mechanism or that the seals are dried out I just haven't checked.
  20. I have a BB gun with scope that I took away from some neighbor kids who were trying to shoot their eyes out (srsly they were trying to shoot each other with it). It dry fires fine but I can't seem to get it to load a pellet in the chamber. You can have it if you think you can fix it.
  21. Is the Xterra stick? Because that would tip it for me in favor of the xterra. Buddy of mine has a v10 Touareg diesel, that is the only Touareg that even raises my pulse.
  22. The boom itself is caused by the rapid change in air pressure from forcing an object speeding at Mach 1 through it. If you don't have air pressure then there is nothing to cause the boom. Sound will still travel at its normal rate. By the way, the sonic boom is continuous, we tend to think of it as a single crack because most times it is expirenced from a stationary position.
  23. actually clay, you should just paint the egg crate black like the factory up-trim trucks did: http://www.blueovaltrucks.com/resources/images/F-Series/1981_F-150_2.jpg there is always the billet grille route: http://www.lmctruck.com/features/fd/images/FDGR1.jpg not gonna lie, I really like that Satoshi grill mod a lot.
  24. If it is a perfect vacuum then no, you need air to create the pressure waves that eventually get compressed and make the boom noise. No air, then no pressure waves.
