  1. you used "rampant in society today" which I took to infer that it was not rampant in the past, mostly for my own lulz and the chance to make a pedantic snarky comment because it's CR. No real offense intended.
  2. It comes up more often than you think and in every context from "where is the actual property line" to "I don't want to live next to inconsiderate asshole neighbors". Most of it though will probably be because people buying a house want to make improvements unhindered and don't want to be beholden to a neighbor without at least a discount. People get all kinds of funny when they are spending the most amount of money they have ever spent in their life in a single transaction.
  3. This is not a "new" phenomenon, the concept of adverse possession in property law is thousands of years old and exists precisely because of this situation. Dude puts a fence up on your property, and you know about it and you do nothing, over time it becomes his property. Granted in ohio he needs to have it for 15-20 years, but still - where is this notion that "entitlement and lack of respect" is newly rampant? I'm not going to give any "legal" type opinion on this because generally this board reacts like a bunch of assholes when I do, but I will say this: If you are heading where I think this is heading (and it isn't to a confrontation with a gun but a confrontation with legal counsel) document everything. Send a registered letter to your neighbor (and keep a copy for yourself) putting him on notice that he erected a fence on your property without your permission and you are going to seek action to have the section removed that is on your property (don't tell him what action, make him guess). Every conversation you have about this with someone take written notes at the time of the conversation and date them (this will meet standards for evidence of the conversation - if you write it down a day later it may not meet the standards). Keep a written time line starting from when you had your first conversation with the neighbor till now and document things like when you sent the letter and when you spoke to the HOA. A reasonable person would give the neighbor written notice and an opportunity to correct the situation on their own so mention that in the letter. Or you can evaluate how much time and energy you want to devote to this and decide to let it go and move on with your life.
  4. news blows everything out of proportion. in other news: http://theslot.jezebel.com/new-explanation-for-melania-trumps-plagiarism-twilight-1783926574
  5. Wow! I see why the take rate is low.
  6. If you will forgive the crass question, what is the upcharge on the paint? I had heard the Rosso Bia paint charge was something like $14K, but that it supposed to be a special paint formula. Is it about the same, or less? Does it count as an out of range color? or is it something more?
  7. When the nickle and diming ends, that's when the real money gets spent on upgrades. You are getting a first hand look as to why people pay a premium for 1 or 2 owner original unmolested old cars, regardless of condition. Often the bodge fixes are minimal. The two big project cars in my life taught me this lesson - the 1957 fuelie corvette and the 1967 GTO. The corvette had been a race car all it's life and had god knows how many owners. It was a road racer car (possible duntov ordered car - fuelie, 3 speed, posi on a december build date) then a straight axle gasser with a title front end, and then someone's rebuilt cruiser. When redoing the body, whole structural sections were reinforced with cardboard. It had a nose that had been cut and re-glued a dozen times, a right rear quarter from a 1959 vette, a door from a 56, a left rear trunk pan from a 1960, interior from a '62 (excluding the dash), and just a mess of chopper gun fiberglass repairs everywhere. I patched the nose with 90's repop parts from corvette image who were such poor quality they caused the car to be repainted every 5 years (paint would "fisheye" over time - after it hardened as the fiberglass outgassed - ugh). On the other hand my GTO was a 1 family, 2 owner car with 75K miles on it and despite the rust, it even still had original paint. Everything comes apart easy, goes together easy, was 1/4 the time to do anything on that car. But enough rambling. The 60's Trans Am mustangs were always a guilty pleasure for me having come from a GM family (with a minor Jeep habit as well). There are somethings I hate about ford's cost cutting (like those shock towers) but every mfg is guilty of that. Since you mentioned that making it an auto-x car was a goal I saw this article a while back and thought I would post it here. It is what Lee Dykstra would do to the 1969 boss 302 cars to get them to handle. It's probably a good starting point to think about handling mods, since more modern stuff exists today that makes it easier to mod. http://www.thecarsource.com/shelby/transam69.html There are a lot of things that can be done on the cheap like lincoln brakes (Versailles for the rear conversion). Fays2 sells a watts link like the old trans am setup for $1000, but if you are handy as a fabricator I imagine it can be done for much less: http://www.fays2.net/images/watts%20front%20view%20.jpg just something to think about.
  8. It's supposed to be a fantastic shit show. I heard the roll call vote yesterday was chaos.
  9. Maybe I am just spoiled then. For all the time I lived on Long Island (1993-up) I ate Peter Luger's (which in the 90's was across from the Great Neck Ferrari dealer who had an F40 displayed in their front and center window - almost nothing is better than eating aged prime while staring at a ferrari f40). Wife used to work for Ruth's Chris corporate in New Orleans for a short while too so...lots of steak. Of the Chain steakhouses: mortons, S&W, Ruth's Chris, the capital grill, Fleming's, etc..., S&W is the only place I thought I could replicate the dish with a decent enough piece of prime and my home grill. BTW, has anybody noticed Costco has had some decent raw cuts of prime lately for not a lot of money? I mean its not like going to the butcher for quality, but it's been about the same that I pay for a triple pack of choice rib-eyes from kroger or big bird.
  10. If you had the steak you would really understand how much of a loser of a deal that is. I had dinner there about a month ago and the place was a ghost town.
  11. Good job on you working though this, typical old car bullshit but it is nice to see it isn't keeping you down. This nickel and dime stuff has a tendency to burn people our with bigger dreams than intestinal fortitude. I will say this, we live in the best time ever for restoring old cars. In the 90's there were practically no new parts, repop stuff was awful, the internet was non-existant, and everyone that sold parts was a weirdo.
  12. I don't know, I once saw one completely wrapped from bumper to bumper in matte faux carbon fiber. It was kinda neat. Somehow I don't think that's what you mean though.
  13. that sounds dirty. I'm out. I can get most of this on an emulator and I don't have the nostalgia of using the NES. I had a Sega Master System with Marble Madness, Chase HQ, outrun, and Road Rash. I also still have my old Neo Geo if I want to relive my days of playing games in an arcade.

  15. thanks! I have to match some things up so I am trying to find someone locally rather than ship things back and forth.
  16. Now that radio shack is closed, where do you guys buy things like wire and fittings locally? I need to make up a small pigtail for a motorcycle I am working on and I need some pretty small gauge wire and some oddball connectors.
  17. you can request the contact info for the "deceased" owner through the BMV: http://publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/bmv1173.pdf It may not be good though Once you have that you can go to the to probate court and find out who the executor of the estate is and contact them. Then you can either ask them for the title, to file a lost title claim, or return the car to them and cut your losses.
  18. Ah, That wasn't clear from before. Let me think on it, there is a way but I don't know how labor intensive it is.
  19. 325xi. 2.5L NA engine. What's the Cobb run?
  20. It's not just you. Nobody wants to be in a room full of their guy friends with raging rock hard boners anymore. It's awkward. For my brothers BP years ago we rented out a huge outdoor paint ball facility and invited everyone we know to come out and play. Catered the lunch with a couple of platters from a local deli. 6+ hours of paintball followed by a night of just bar hopping was a pretty good time.
  21. hypothetically, and in no way representing legal advice of any kind, If you had the number of the Attorney who is handling the divorce you could let them know there is this asset (the car) and liability (the repair bill) that could affect his divorce settlement. You could also notify his wife's attorney as well. If he filed for divorce then that contact information is public and you just have to get a copy from the courts. Just saying. again not legal advice but: You don't own the car, don't do anything to hurt the car. Don't do anything to make it a racer car. Don't even look at it funny. Park it in the back of the lot and let it sit. Get a folder: put the repair bills in it, and then send the customer a certified letter that he is delinquent on his bill and the car needs to be paid for or you are going to assess storage. Then two weeks later send him another certified letter that you are going to start assessing storage. Then start the mechanic's lien process.
  22. Pm me, I'll see if I can help. Provide car details and customer details.
  23. 3 side draft webers would be the hotness....unfortunately I would lose power.
  24. From what I am seeing on the cost of ECU flashes they are around $800-$1000 for someone's code to fix this plus the labor to flash. I could be wrong though. The modules I am seeing are between $100 - $300 so it is much cheaper. I don't want to mod the car yet, it's the thing I use to haul the kid to daycare, but the pedal lag is noticeable.
