  1. I have had many friends who have owned RHD cars, both British and Japanese and from being friends with them the biggest hurdle I always saw was parts and servicing, esp if the car is significantly different from the version that was sold here in the states. You wouldn't think it but something even as simple and stupid as brake pads can't always just be sourced from autozone and can cost $100s to get from japan. Getting the car is the easy part, keeping it running there is the challenge. Also don't buy a car you can't physically inspect. did you want a subaru wrx coupe? there are a couple of them in the country, you just need to travel in the right circles. I knew a guy in NY who had one, met him through my buddy was the "tuner" guy for his subaru dealership. Seems like a 2.5RS with a swap gets you 90% of the way there though.
  2. Cherry. bomb. The biggest one they have.
  3. can someone lend me $3K? I have a very nice ducati as collateral.....
  4. I think that is just asking for a fight to break out. There is always one dipshit who values his life less than yours and won't back down no matter how large the threat of force. Could it be a last resort? sure there is always someone who doesn't respond to the nice approach and needs to see people mean business, but if you do that with everyone then you are just spinning the roulette wheel that you will run into the guy who wants to start shit. If you change the spot every week then you cripple attendance. you want more people/cars, just less shenanigans.
  5. I was talking to Scott and he left mid sentence to go talk to that guy. To be fair the guy had already blasted his system 2 or 3 times before Scott said anything to him, all with in the span of 20 minutes. I could see his ire rising each time it happened so it is no wonder he was terse when he finally walked over. Based on just how he walked over (I've seen some angry walks in my life and that was one you could see from space) I knew there would be confrontation so I just walked away from the scene. So did he handle it wrong? yeah probably. Although he set up the event I don't think the is the appropriate face of it in every situation. A younger guy with a way better attitude probably could have handled it better, and make people less likely to react like their angry dad is yelling at them. I used to do bike events in NY and the way we used to handle this issue is we got a few of the regulars together to act as "volunteer" fun police. It goes over real well when someone in your age/peer group comes over and says "come on man, don't be 'THAT' guy" in a nice calm tone with a smile. But the real question is "how much do the participants care about the event?" From the looks of it most do or they wouldn't bother to show up, so why let your buddies be jackasses? and maybe we should redefine what constitutes dipshit behavior. Aside from burnouts, donuts, and loud stereos, and loud other noises there isn't much there (I mean I suppose I shouldn't have to say illegal/dangerous behavior but...). I don't even know if I have a problem with "throwing sparks" so long as it doesn't sound like a garbage truck falling off the empire state building.
  6. glad it worked out. Still surprised you didn't to a clevis style mount at the top for strength, but eh, if it was good enough for the factory and I imagine you won't be riding hard anyway.
  7. so....did somebody buy this over the weekend?
  8. Wanna know what really works? police writing tickets for stupid behavior. In NY they have a similar late night hangout at the Bellmore train station on Long Island. Has to be 1000 cars that show up every Friday night. When it started to get rowdy the cops came in and wrote tickets for shenanigans (but were otherwise generally pleasant and non-intrusive). After a few weeks the show got a reputation as a place you don't screw around when you are there and the attention died down. The other way to handle it is when people are dipshits - confront them. Be nice, smile, be pleasant, and tell them to knock it off. You'd be surprised how many people think they can get away with stuff because nobody says anything to them.
  9. It was good meeting everybody and discovering a new event (to me anyways). Also great riding roads. Wes, Put the duc battery on the charger after I got home - next morning it exploded so it is well and proper fucked. Next Friday is halloween which is a suck night to be on a bike, but let's do this for as long as the weather holds out.

    Walking Dead

BTW, does the "whatever is causing the reanimation" make everyone's skull super fragile? Tyreese put that knife into Bob's head like he was putting the mail through the mail slot. Not that the show needs more violence but I was expecting something more pulp fiction needle scene and a little less cutting wedding cake.
  11. I hate dodges, early darts esp, but at $3500 that is a freaking bargain. Literally a steal. Someone needs to go buy that thing tonight.
  12. I have the bike on the battery charger, fingers crossed it starts tonight.
  13. the only thing that bugs me is that the front overhang looks too long. Everything else looks pretty great but just that part in front of the wheels...I dunno...reminds me of the maxima from a few years ago.
  14. I have no idea what I would use it for but a Pennzoil 50 gal drum would be the hotness in my garage.
  15. have you posted it to SOHC4.net? Also listing out all the things you spend $3K on might help.
  16. it surprises me how deep these ponds are as well. I mean it would have had to have been deep enough that the car would not be within a couple feet of the surface otherwise it would start to become visible even in the most murky of waters. A 2004 honda civic is about 4 feet 8 inches tall so we are talking about a pond that at it's lowest is probably 7-8 feet deep?
  17. First I would COPO one of those 1967 Firebird convertible bodies GM licenses and sells in their Restoration catalog and then outfit it with all the underpinnings and drive-train from a new z/28. Exterior painted mariner turquoise, interior a 1969 camaro delux houndstooth setup in black. completely bone stock looking outside and in, and even keep the crank windows. Then I would have truly the last New Pontiac in existence and it would be badass, instead of the last pontiac being a weak sauce g6.
  18. ok, thanks. Their Google SEO is terrible, they go by like 3 different names (Ride1 powersports, ohio motorcycle, Honda Northwest). 3747 Park Mill Run Drive Hilliard, Ohio 43026 (614) 771-0771 Phone http://www.ride1powersports.com/custompage.asp?page=map
  19. Which one is Honda Northwest? Germain? Hopefully the Ducati will start - it didn't want to last weekend. Stupid battery.
  20. $10K for a pickup with 200K miles? is that really what these things are going for these days? Not knocking your buddy, I'm just kinda shocked is all.
  21. Is that the m42 four cyl? Damage doesn't look too bad, is it salvage title?
  22. It's like car shopping man, used market always has the better deals but you have to wade through a lot of garbage to get them. I don't know if $350 even puts you in the ballpark for a good new road bike, I mean there are ok entry level ones from specialized at that price (bike source) but knowing me I would inevitably spend money upgrading the crankset and then have a really nice crank set on a shitty frame. This is going to sound crazy but take a look at 1980's panasonics. They are an amazing quality for the money mostly because people see the same name that was on their VCR and think shitty licensing deal but in reality they were one of the few steel frame bikes that was Tour de France competitive in box stock config. Usually the hardware is top shelf campignolo or shimano stuff and the frame tube is ohio steel (yes they shipped us steel from ohio to japan, made bicycle frames, then shipped the bicycles back). They are 20-30 year old bicycles now so you want one that's maintained and not sitting in the back of the garage for 20 years. The best part is I rarely see them over $250 on craigslist. But admittedly I am a Panasonic fetishist (I own 3 including the sport dx my dad bought me in 1989). At $350 there are a lot of great old bikes if you don't need to have the latest tech like carbon frames and ultralight wheels. 90's cannondales are the last of the US made ones and usually inexpensive as well. In 1994 I spent a summer biking down the coast of Maine on one and regret ever letting it go. It's like anything, do your homework.
  23. pics or it didn't happen.
  24. I don't think that's stupid so much as taking on new debt when you are trying to retire existing debt is...unwise. If you had no other debt and you wanted to take on some I would say go right ahead, spend away. To be fair I have the same "I must have it now" disease when it comes to cars that I'm guessing you suffer from also. I freely admit I not only have looked into loans for classic cars before but I have actually applied for one and I am in no position to take on any new debt. And I totally get it, it looks like a great deal and you are going to be bummed if you pass on it but you aren't talking about a super rare car and there is still some depreciation left in these cars (though not much). Focus on getting you into the happy place where you can buy stuff guilt free and then go get some fun toys one after the other.
  25. whose panicking? I'm laughing my ass off. It's the old and the very young that should be panicking.
