  1. I'm not an ohioan by birth so Incredible Universe never was a thing for me. But in NYC we had something similar called "The Wiz". Their Slogan "Nobody beats the Wiz!" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wiz_%28store%29 they were huge and then one day just gone. In the 80's they used to have a franzetta style wizard as their mascot.
  2. moldy interior FTW!!!! Texas is one of those states where if you lose the title it's pretty easy to get a replacement, so most people don't covet them like ohioans.
  3. This. The advantage someone has in this situation is the element of surprise, not the weapon itself. The couple having a gun would not have leveled the playing field, it would just have increased the odds of the bad guy recovering another gun in addition to the cash he was seeking. Take away the advantage by being smart about your meeting places and you discourage bad situations in the first place. This is a really tragic story. my heart goes out to the family.
  4. Come to Easton, ample parking and you don't have to take a shuttlebus. Are you in a position that you can transfer to Easton? Or are you tied to the chase facility at Polaris?
  5. Wife had the appraisal on it, known about it for a year and a half. All I can think about is how bad that Polaris pkwy exit off of 270 is going to get.
  6. I hear carmax maxcare warranty is awesome. this guy named Doug on Jalopnik keeps writing about it. Can you buy a TDI from carmax?
  7. I'm just going to set this down here and run: http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/there-are-no-war-heroes-a-veterans-review-of-american-1681339482/+matthardigree
  8. what oil is being drained out? are you still within break in miles? if you are still under 5K miles put in whatever is coming out (usually dino oil). If you are past the break in mileage, then see what is coming out and either use a semi synthetic (if replacing dino oil) or a full synthetic (if replacing synth). Also do you own the car or lease it? If you own it, the synth is worth it. If it is leased, put the cheapest crap you can find in it.
  9. when I bought the Wife's audi, I went to the audi dealer and asked about an extended warranty. Fun Fact - Audi's Factory warranty is third party to begin with through Fidelity Warranty Services and they sell supplemental coverage outside the factory required 4 years 50K miles. It was no issue for me to buy it for a used car with 30K miles on it. I believe VW offers the same as a friend of mine bought a 100K supplemental warranty for his R32 when he bought the car new. The same warranty was through fidelity. FWIW, there are companies that offer discounts on Fidelity warranty services warranties and since they are Genuine VW/Audi authroized the dealers have to honor them. However, the internet is full of complaints about FWS weaseling out of coverage.
  10. There is no way to "dull" it that will blend without repainting (as far as I am aware of). I am assuming you have the Harley "Denim" paint finish which uses a semi-gloss (or semi-matt depending on the mixture, a full matte is a rough finish) clear topcoat. Basically your seat polished the rough finish out of the clear coat. The only thing I can recommend is getting a clear matte protection film (like the one made by XPEL) and putting it over any contact areas and the shiny spot to prevent the new seat from doing the same and sort of even things out looks wise. It is possible you could wetsand it with something like 800 grit sandpaper but I doubt you will ever get it to blend.
  11. Ugh stanced bug. Somebody squash it.
  12. I'm just screwing around because I find Porsche people odd. I'd totally buy an N/A 996 IMS bearing be damned because I find it hysterical that beyond the IMS bearing (which can be fixed for around $2K) a set of headlights devalues the car to used toyota camry levels.
  13. if only he was asking half as much it would be perfect: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4843614676.html
  14. what generation TT? because there are many who would say it is not worth it for a 996.
  15. Forget the Daisy.....Ronal Teddy Bears FTW: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g38/MonsterMx/WP_000121.jpg
  16. The prices for 1st gen Firebirds makes this prohibitive. I wish it wasn't the case but man did those firebirds get up there in price. I thought about a 2nd or 3rd gen F-body but there are 2 problems. 1) The quality on those cars is so bad I don't want to have to remake the entire car. 2) I would still be driving a 2nd or 3rd gen Fbody. 2nd gen cars came with inline 6's so I know they fit, 3rd gens it is going to be a bit of a strech. Also I am pretty sure everyone who sees it will just hate it (not that I care) and I will hate it because I will be stuck driving a slow F body, which I could just do by buying a 305 powered formula or z28. both are good ideas though, maybe for someone who hasn't been rained on through the t-tops of a 1986 formula 305 many many times.
  17. You know, I hadn't considered a pickup. I've driven many but never actually owned one (el caminos don't count). Maybe I shoukd start looking for early 60's chevy/gmc since they will already have the 6cyl mounts. Plus I could use something to haul bikes around.
  18. ok, so here is a bit of a fun time waster. In the next two years I need to clean out my father's and brother's garages in NY because my folks are probably going to sell their Office/house and I am going to lose the garage space. In addition to a huge collection of old motorcycle racing parts which I am selling off I have to figure out what to do with some of the odd crap I have collected over the years. One of those things is a complete, running when pulled, 60K mile 1966 Pontiac OHC inline 6 cylinder engine and trans. It was in my 2 owner 1966 60K mile 4 door tempest and in that car with a 2 speed trans and a dead leg 3.08 rear the car pulled 25mpg on the highway at 70 all the time. I pulled it out because one of cam followers began to get noisy and I managed to win off of ebay a completely rebuild 1968 OHC6 pontiac for less than the cost of top end parts ($200). So I put the engine on an engine stand, filled they cylinders with oil, and wrapped it in pallet wrap, 1bbl carb and all. Same with the tranny, but I also have a BOP Turbine 300 and an M21 4 speed I was saving for when I want to convert my GTO to stick. And there is has sat. If you want to know more about these fantastic engines here is a good writeup: http://overheadcammerschapter.150m.com/history.html At first I wanted to build something stupid simple with it. Maybe a t-bucket or old school hot rod. Easy enough since the Pontiac uses the same engine mounts as an L-head six chevy. It isn't like there isn't a precedent for this engine, the real life red baron show car used one (the model kit used a jag 4.2L inline six). http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp263/eldo6770/100_0617.jpg But then I got to thinking...I love six cyl powered GT cars, esp British ones. and you know who loved those also? John Delorean. So much so that he commissioned the OHC6 specifically for his jaguar competitor "Banshee" in 1965: http://images.thecarconnection.com/lrg/1964-pontiac-xp-833-banshee-prototype_100321457_l.jpg Now an accurate replica is out of my league, but I figured a C3 chassis and body with maybe some of the baldwin motion body mods would make a nice touring/GT car: http://corvetterepair.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/1969MotionGTIII-e1338329298613.gif C3's are dirt cheap right now, esp as projects where it was running but someone ruined the body (there is a $4K obo 1977 on CL right now where someone backed into the nose of an otherwise really nice car). Of course I wouldn't keep the 6cyl stock. Over time I have collected a Sprint cam, triple weber carb manifold. Goal would be to strip the car to a sub 3K lbs curb weight and get the engine to make about 250hp (which the sprints did stock with a cam, intake, and 4bbl carb and there are 400 hp ohc6's that race at Bonneville). Then I thought that sounds like too much work and maybe I should just look for an old 2 door 50's/60's chevy 6 powered car and plunk it in there. Maybe a 1951 chevy with the OHC 6 and bell flowers. So this is kind of what has been going through my mind and all the ways I justify keeping the OHC6 and assorted bits. But if you were in my position, and a pretty loyal old school Pontiac fan, what would you do with it? I want to hear all suggestions as maybe there is some thing I haven't thought of yet.
  19. there is more than one Focus ST? Why? OP said $20K max for price. A brand new base ST with a warranty for $19K seems like the move vs a 3 year old beaten into the ground MS3 or GTI.
  20. I don't know about that....dealers are dumping 2014 new leftovers: http://carbuying.jalopnik.com/now-is-the-time-to-get-a-stupid-cheap-deal-on-a-2014-fo-1680643716/+matthardigree FWIW, Byers has 3 left over ST's but unfortunately they are not priced like the rest of the country at under $21K. http://www.byersford.com/inventory/view/2014/Model/Focus%20ST/New/SortBy0/
  21. This is purely my opinion and based on my brother's MK V GTI ownership, Wife's MK V Audi A3 ownership, and several friends with Speed3's. Couple of questions: 1) stick or manual? 2) are you able to do your own work? Overall the GTI is a nicer car to be inside of, esp if it has the tartan cloth seats (leather in a GTI? - ick). Even lowered on H&R superlows my wife's A3 rides like a dream. The Speed3 is the faster angrier car. The GTI will be more expensive to service and there are some things that will annoy the hell out of you (single stage light bulbs? really?) when you go to do them yourself. There are some service items you have to continually watch out for (Cam Follower, EGR valve, Diverter valve) or replace with upgraded parts. I wouldn't buy a used DSG automatic VW if you paid me to do it in blowjobs from supermodels - if the thing ever needs clutches it's like $3K in parts alone to replace, hence the question "stick or auto". I don't know what the issues are on the speed3 but I do know if you are looking at a CPO with a warranty you have to be aware that it can only be serviced by a mazda authorized mazdaspeed dealer otherwise your warranty is void (or so I am told). Every dealer will tell you they can work on them, but not every dealer will be able to do warranty work. Other than that join the forums and do the research. I assume that because you are looking at 2012 you are looking at cars with less than 100K miles. That is good because I wouldn't want to own either car with 100K miles if I didn't walk it there personally for at least half of the way. So do you want a crap can japanese pocket rocket that makes you think you are going to die from torque steer everytime you mash the pedal or do you want a nice quiet comfy refined german waiting room on wheels that gives you the fizzies when you mash the pedal.
  22. Is that all? I thought he was supposed to be going as least as fast as that joke flew by you.
  23. 335kmh....so that is like what? 60mph? Also t-shirt and shorts is the preferred fire suit of the autobahn.
  24. If you are going to take new pictures, and you really want to sell the thing, make sure they are good pictures. Get the car in a distraction free background at dramatic angles, and make sure it is well lit. There is nothing worse than looking at pics that look like they were shot with a potato. here is a guide: http://www.wikihow.com/Take-Photographs-of-Cars
