  1. Not to sound silly but how's your hoses? I've had a rubber brake line that would noticeably swell when you jammed on the brakes. After installing a new one I immediately noticed the brakes were noticeably firmer.
  2. 2007. In spite of my best effort at training, my daughter can kill large stones with a rubber mallet; I admit it. But I was under the hood enough to see what their engineers did. I wasn't impressed. Then again, after 1996 or so, ALL cars and trucks suck for my money.
  3. Bingo! I do like that style of bike. With a few changes you can make any sort of ride you want; kneedragger, touring, drag bike...not sure about flattrack or hillclimber. And it has enough displacement to keep you happy...'til the warranty's gone.
  4. Wait. Somebody tossed up a Ford Focus. With all due respect (and sympathy) to whoever owns one, those things are trash. My daughter brought one for her and the kids. So far it's ate the brakes (including calipers and rotors) in less than 50,000 miles. Twice. Cost her a small fortune in A/C repairs, power window repairs, and lord knows what else she's embarrassed to tell me about. She is hard on a car, but her junk-assed 80 something Honda looked gold compared to Ford's Fucus. (not a typo, my term for it). I help out with oil changes, belt replacement and other small items, but I'd rather own a Yugo.
  5. Not everybody's first choice, but my youngest has a '98 Civic 2 door, standard shift with air. Thing gets 30+ mpg, he does the maintenance and small repairs himself, and it's never left him sitting. Based on his car I'd buy a newer one in a heartbeat if I wasn't a truck guy. But with your space yeah, I can see where that might not work.
  6. Didn't mean to offend; sorry. I was interested in the possibility of rebuild and selling it. I like making a buck too. Paperwork or some sort of bill of sale would be necessary if stuck in another bike, although registration is done off the frame here in Ohio. From experience while the State Police wouldn't impound it right off the bat, different numbers from the frame would raise an eyebrow.
  7. I use Meguiar's detail spray on mine for quick clean-ups. Works good, but isn't really a replacement for a good hose 'n scrub wash. Whatever you wind up using, do not use S100. It requires you hose the bike down thoroughly after applying it. If you google the stuff, you'll find some have experienced damage to paint and clear finishes when they failed to rinse it all off. I've got a neighbor down my road that brought a bike where previous owner had experienced just that. He spent last winter getting paint and clear finish re-done. Plus I would imagine the fumes from it would be nasty inside a house.
  8. $350 for a coffee table base? Nope. What's blowed in it? Got a receipt for it?
  9. Rather read this thread than a R.I.P. thread.
  10. Tim, look at the P250 or P320. My youngest son works in armed security (not a cop) and just got a P320. If I were to sell/replace my P220 I'd get one in a heartbeat. Along with the Sig I've got a k-frame S&W revolver in .357 w/4" barrel, 1911 in .45 and LC9. I'll reach right past them for the Sig almost every time. I say "almost" because the reality of it is I wear tshirt and jeans all the time, with a hoodie or heavy coat during the winter. Summer; it's hard to conceal a 4" plus length handgun. So I got the LC9. It's a close range (20 ft or so) defensive weapon. And I have to admit, I am not that fond of it. Thinking of swapping it for a snub-nose revolver in stainless, probably a .38 S&W.
  11. I have a few guns, don't "collect" like some I know. I'm a shooter as ammo costs allow. My favorite for target or conceal carry is a Sig P220 in .45. It's "European" type mag release which makes reloading a little different, but I've had this for 25-30 years and have a fair amount of practice with it. It is extremely accurate; moreso than I am, lol!
  12. Amputation is an option for later. I had a bad wreck in '98; ER docs and a couple of surgeons said my right leg had to come off. A third surgeon said let's try and fix it. It was ugly, painful and learning to use the leg and ankle again hurt like hell. It was worth it. I've always straddled my one Harley to kick-start it. I can kick it to life today. With that right leg and ankle. I'm not meaning to hi-jack or brag...I'm saying don't write it off just yet.
  13. That's what he says. After the surgery, you'll have therapy. Take it seriously; good therapy done religiously can do wonders. My situation wasn't good, but I walk again, kickstart one of my bikes and do almost anything around the house including getting on the roof to clan gutters. Doctors seem to give you the worst scenario. It's your job to prove they're wrong.
  14. Go back (not with your bike) and ask for the boss. That's bullshit. $80 each for tire change? I do my own work, so maybe I'm not qualified to call B.S. ...but man!!!!
  15. Inside sales in my local Lowes' seems to have a big turn-over. I'm opposed to working somewhere for six months or less, showing up for work one day to be told "We don't need you anymore". I've no idea about outside sales at Lowes' or such; true. But from what I've seen of sales anywhere, you go big or go home...to starve. The salespeople I've interacted with spend a lot of time developing relations with different purchasing departments, shop owners/managers, distributors of their own product. Huge amount of time actually; away from family on the road staying in hotels, eating fast food. Only to have potential customers stand them up or buy from a competitor. I'd have to have the prospect of a six figure income to jump through those hoops. I don't mean to discourage the OP. Some people love it, work like madmen and do quite well at it. It gets to be a question of balance of your own life vs. making that next big commission.
  16. Sell building material? Not Lowes' or Homo Depot...some major wholesale distributor. You're familiar with trade tools; Grainger or the like as a counterman, then look to outside sales.
  17. Well ok...what do you do (besides motorcycles) for a hobby? Can you make money from it? is there a demand or market? Maybe a planner for home/commercial builders? Go here: http://www.linkedin.com/ Look around for companies in an area that interests you/ Just for ideas.
  18. I got along fine with XP...used it at home, work...Wife was used to 7, but quickly adapted. The old tower died and I brought a new one with 8; we adapted. Upgraded to 8.1; we adapted again. Damned thing upgraded itself to 10. Thing slowed down, ignored us when we dis-abled their "mining", and then it got weird. So back to 8.1. I have a copy of XP and am thinking about re-installing it. Fuck Microsoft. A computer (or anything for that matter) should please and serve the user.
  19. As stated above, post a honeypot ad. Let him come and look, but don't let him on it. When he leaves, tail him. He probably doesn't keep his stolen goods where he lives, he may have them stashed to ride when the lil' fucker feels brave. Set up observation and see where he's got them. Then steal them back. Store them away from where you met him originally for a spell. He in all likelihood will try to re-take them. He probably will not want to report them stolen, will he? If he's parting them out contact the State Patrol, not Cleveland PD. (As much as I hate snitching.) They seem to love busting these type of operations. This way you probably won't get it back; If he's stripped it even partially you don't want it anyway.
  20. Oil filters. Wix http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/Applications.aspx?Section=6 Any engine I've got for anything if it has an oil filter, gets a Wix. Don't know if they make one for every application, but if they do it's a damned good one.
  21. This was at a regularly scheduled Saturday at Edgewater Dragstrip. Don't know who tipped the cops off, but they went in force. I don't know about now, but used to be there was always a deputy or two anytime the gates were open anyway. And probably went in to avoid any un-pleasantness as you said.
  22. Call surgeon's office back after you find another surgeon...tell him he's fired. I'm no doctor. But someone tell me I'm wrong when I say the bones will probably start to knit by then. Whoever gets in there may have to break whatever's formed to do the repair. Ask me how I know.
  23. Plus one on that! Is the swelling gone down yet?
