  1. I feel like the story those pictures tell are someone having a stroke and starting to fall over.
  2. That's not really how these things work. A pair of speakers assuming same efficiency will be just as loud with 45w going into them regardless of what their limit is as long as you are not close to/above their limit. Whether that 45 watts comes from the head unit or an external amp does not matter. Whether the speakers limit is 60 watts or 150 watts does not matter. The speakers with the higher limit might actually sound better as speakers distortion levels rise as you get closer to their limits. As long as he is fine with the power level out of the head-unit, the extra power from an external amp would be a waste from a cost, installation time, space and weight viewpoint. Now, if the stock head unit does not get loud enough for him, then by all means put a more powerful amp in. It is true that he will not use the full potential of the speakers. What is 100% not true is that the power coming out of his head-unit is somehow different and 'weak' compared to an external amp or will somehow make a different amount of sound given the same actual power level. He could also theoretically get an amp and never use more power than the head unit produces. Cars are not big spaces inside, it does not take a ton of power to make a decent amount of sound in them. Those are actually fair efficient at 90&92db/1w@1m.
  3. I think there is also some function of proximity to not as nice areas. We are in a pretty nice area, but if you go across the tracks/highway there are some not so nice areas not so far from here. I assume the scrappers in our area mostly come from there. So, outside of 270 in the burbs is further from those kinds of areas. Probably wherever the scrappers are coming from is next door to the the car riflers.

cstmg8, I'm really curious to hear about the Papas Pillar since you will have both a Bourbon Barrel and Sherry Barrel cask version. Have you had the regular before?
  5. The scrappers in Clintonville are, if nothing else, efficient. I don't imagine wherever you are now you can get away with leaving scrap at the curb.

I got some of the Papa's Pilar when we were in Key West a few years ago and liked it. IIRC very sip-able but fairly heavy on the sweet side. I also got some Bad Bitch rum, also made in Key west, but it was a garbage dumpster fire. Oh, just noticed that this is a Bourbon Barrel Finish, the one I had was the regular one. I see the also have a Sherry Cask one too, which sounds interesting. Let us know how you like the Jefferson's Reserve. The rum selection is pretty bad here, but I actually saw some of the Jefferson's Reserve the other day. Zacapa 23 or Diplimatico is the only 2 decent rums I've regularly come across.
  7. That engine looks like it's going to be pretty far back, which is clearly great for the purposes of this build. But, I worry if the trans tunnel will be close to the pedal box area. I don't imagine any track would be happy with you having to drive without shoes on. In all seriousness, this looks amazing. I'm loving following along here and I can't wait to see this thing out on track.
  8. https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-receiver/ and https://www.accessories4less.com/ A4L has the Denon AVR-S540BT that WireCutter suggest as their budge pick for $200 (refurbished from Denon). Though it's only $230 from Amazon new right now. https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrs540bt/denon-avr-s540bt-5.2-ch-x-70-watts-bluetooth-a/v-receiver/1.html And.... please save up for new speakers and burn those in the future. This is a smoking good deal right now. https://www.pioneerhomeusa.com/product/sp-pk52fs-2/

  12. That's really weird it won't let you list it for more, but will let you list it for less. Usually most scams are cars being listed for too low to be true prices.
  13. If I have to chose the more likely situation of a buy-here-pay-here lot being shady with adds and someone trolling them I know which one I'm picking.

    Ham Radio

As I was reading that, I was wondering if that's who you were talking about. Probably not many people playing with radios as a hobby at that level, buying old AM station equipment. My dad worked for him over at Applied Innovations and has been to his place a few times. I went to an AI reunion about a year ago. I never worked there but worked with many who did at other companies, so it's a good place to catch up with all of them. I meet Gerry then and he (very casually) invited me to come check his radio stuff out. I would love to go out sometime my dad is going there. Dude seems like a (radio) mad scientist in person.
  19. Hnnnng, can't wait to see this once it's done.
  20. Clicked on it, took me to an AOL chatroom where someone asked 'A/S/L?' but I wasn't sure what they were wanting. :fa:
  21. http://www.tiptopcolumbus.com/ Downtown https://www.thetablecolumbus.com/ Short north <-I can't recommend this one enough. I'll 3rd or 4th Hoof Hearted. If you have a big table, splurge and get the Ballerz Board. It's a 4 person table sized wooden board of meats, cheeses, etc.
  22. Interesting, the Indonesia guess was just speculation. I get that it will protect local vehicle production. But, and this is just my armchair economic view point, the reality of the economics are most people can't afford a new car. So the new car market is not enough to fill the demand. So, people who may be able to get into a used car can not. So more people and families stay on scooters. I can't help but think that is slowing the growth of the economy down... I actually saw many 'small' things like that there. Granted it was just from talking to the 1 taxi driver and looking on the roads, but I think they do import used into NZ. I saw Honda Fit and Jazz on the roads there, which seems to support that fact. P.S. I think you spelled Asian wrong. :gabe:
  23. Haven't read the whole article yet, but it strikes me that plenty of the cars in those pictures are new relatively mundane cars. We always have this image of these super cool collectors cars being exported from japan. But the reality is most of those 1.4 million per year are probably just regular slightly used cars. Talking to my coworkers yesterday, most Japanese people will consider a car, or at least a regular car, DONE after 100,000km or 10 years. But, clearly those cars have plenty of life left. So, many relatively new but used cars, often even newer than that, get exported to other RHD countries. In NZ, one of our taxi drivers was driving some run of the mill Prius. He said it would be very expensive new, something like $50k. So, not as many new cars are sold there. Definitely not enough new cars sold to satisfy the markets demand. But he said many used cars are imported from other RHD countries to there. One of my Japanese coworkers said this maybe true of Asutralia. One of his friends was there, drove someones car, and the ETC (electronic toll card reader) started talking to him in Japanese! Someone left it in there and it got exported to Australia. Cars that are a little older or more worn, might get exported to developing countries that are RHD, like Indonesia.
