  1. He posts almost as much as you
  2. Mazda sport compacts have the dumbest owners on the planet. You have to sift through a lot of ricey bullshit to find anything useful on may Mazda related forum. (RX7's and Miata's are exempt from that statement)
  3. pretty much the only one around...A bunch of different urls go the same place http://www.msprotege.com, protege5.com, mazdaiii.com, etc
  4. Here's an interesting tid-bit...this same vendor came out with his "Custom intake manifold" that he originally said was his design. A day later the story changed so that he's buying the manifolds from a secondary vendor that is importing them from Japan. A few members raised the BS flag and said that his manifold was nothing but a stock 626 mani. He denied it saying, "The 626 mani won't work, I tried." And every other sack rider said that people were vender bashing. (Much like they did to me in the incident I started this topic over) Well fast-forward a few weeks and a guy in Ann Arbor ordered a 626 manifold off car-parts.com for $60 and it's the same damn thing. All pictures are identical from every angle and it bolted on with no additional problems. And this guy is trying to sell it for $550.
  5. slow and wobbley through curves, hammer down and red lining in the straights. Followed a guy doing that last week.
  6. http://www.msprotege.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=161 Click on "GI: budget big brake upgrade kit" You could probably source all the parts from the dealer yourself if you wanted to also. I'd take you for a ride in mine next time I'm home, but it's not stock anymore.
  7. Suspension was Tokico shocks, Eibach springs, Racing Beat sway bars. It lowered the car about an inch and are slightly stiffer springs (145 lb/in front/117.5 lb/in rear vs. 121/95.5). I *think* the MSP rear sway bar will work on a P5, but I can't say positively that the rear subframe is the same. Although I'm pretty sure a few guys on the Mazda forum have them. The brakes are larger rotors and different calipers. (10.8" front rotors/11.0" solid rears, single piston calipers all around.) It's all parts bin stuff, I think they were from a 626, but don't quote me on that. There is a vender on the forum putting together a group buy on all the brake components to upgrade Protege's to the MSP stuff.
  8. Yeah, the car definately needs some winter tires. There is decent aftermarket support for the car, but they are mostly what I would call "ricer" products. However, all the MSP stuff will bolt on to that car so you could do a cheap brake and suspension upgrade if you want to make the car a little more fun.
  9. Sounds like a good deal. Make sure to get it checked out before you buy to make sure there's nothing seriously wrong with it.
  10. The Diesel 300C and Cherokee are awesome. If they sold them in the US I would buy one. Just as fast as the HEMI and they sip fuel. I can't wait for the US diesel to get clean enough for manufacturers to start selling more of them over here.
  11. There's a difference between political correctness and ignorance. I'm not a fan of PC.
  12. There's a guy selling a Street Modified 2 prepped Miata right now for 17,500. Not exactly cheap, but it's got a stroker 2.0L with the Flyin Miata supercharger kit, tons of suspension upgrades, too much other stuff to list. It would kill on a track and it runs mid 12's in the quarter. I'm not saying get this car, but there are many way's around the power problems of a Miata. After putting a race suspension on my Protege and not wanting to drive it everyday I have become a fan of having a nice daily driver and an alternate track car that you aren't making payments on.
  13. I hit 150 in a Jeep. The straights were only a mile long so I didn't push it any higher going into the turn.
  14. Keep the M3 as your daily, buy a Miata and make it a "Spec Miata" for open track days. To make a car that's fast on track you will hate to drive it everyday. Since I see no point in picking up a huge car payment for a track car I say keep a pimp daily and a cheap, fun, reliable track car that you can buy with cash.
  15. All wind tunnel tested and only produced so they could race it in the DTM series against the M3's. I don't care about the wing, that car is bad as hell.
  16. They may become collectors items someday. Right now a Cossie in good condition will easily go for around ballpark 8k. I've seen them between 4500 and 12000. They only brought around 2000 to the US so they are somewhat rare. The true collectors item is the EVO II. Those still go for 20-30k...if you can even find one.
  17. I had researched them a little bit when Jack first showed his. I thought about picking one up as a cheap track car but the Protege has gone that direction. The main problems I have seen with them is the air suspension in the rear. However, the one you are looking at has H&R's (?) and Bilsteins so you shouldn't have that problem. They are awesome handling cars and got rave reviews in their day. However, cossie parts might be a little pricey if something breaks. There are a few people that have done engine swaps though. SR20's seem to be the most popular.
  18. There's another vid of a guy solving one in 29 seconds...one handed.
  19. Is that the same big black guy that went down like a bitch in that CroCop vid?
  20. how much are you selling the AE86 for? Any pics? Is the body in good shape? *free bump*
