  1. Today a friend of mine and I went out with a Escort Passport GT2 G-Timer to see what my car could do. He has a ~400hp 1G DSM that put down 1G lateral, 1G Braking, and 0.84 Acceleration G's. I know I have no chance of matching his acceleration g's, but I was fairly confident I could pull 1G laterally. The Car: 2003.5 MazdaSpeed Protege AWR Coilovers Modified ploy swaybar bushings Falken Azenis (215/45/16) 16" Rota Slipstreams We were both running the same tires (but he has 225/17's), my car weighs 2760 with no passengers, and my CG is lower then the DSM's. We used an empty parking lot as our makeshift skidpad and mapped a traction circle. It appeared as if I could make 1G, but the lot was really bumpy and we thought that might be inflating the accelerometers numbers. Traction Circle So we drive around various on/off ramps waiting to find one that was perfectly clear with a near constant radius. After easing through a few I was feeling more confident going into the next one. I entered the curve fast and continued to accelerate until the car started to push and the tires were audible. From my traction circle measurements it appeared as if my limit was about 1.04 lateral G's. Going through this curve the accelerometer was peaking at 1.04 with an average at about 1g for about 2 seconds straight. Lateral Acceleration I actually hit 1.05 G's on the highest peak but that's the limit of adhesion. *Disclaimer: All roads were scouted out before hand and were clear. There was no traffic nearby, no boxes of kittens, no kids on bikes, etc. I am a trained professional. Do not try this at home.
  2. Looks like those "freestyle runners" from France that have a few vids out already.
  3. Well, i don't question the guys lifestyle, but I don't believe this is his only place. Every weekend and vacation he has they're gone up north. My guess is he has a house on a lake up north and stays in an apartment that's close to work. Not too uncommon up here.
  4. haha, he's management at GM. He just brought it home for the weekend.
  5. haha, well I couldn't take any pics that are any different from what you can already find on the internet. I'll have to try to scam a ride in it though.
  6. How about you allow everyone that helped pay for the VBulletin upgrade to change their names?
  7. You bastards. Make me a mod so I can change mine back.
  8. Can you change the forum view so that usernames are to the left instead of above the message? (like how it used to be, or how the Mazda Forum is and they use VB too.) Personally I think it flows better.
  9. my name's old One change per year and I'd be happy. I'll probably never change mine from Mallard anyway.
  10. Posting from toronto. Been stuck here the last few days with no CR!! What am i to do in a hotel room all night!?
  11. Yeah, is anything done to the Fireo? 3800? 3400TDC? v8? Lets see some pics. Welcome.
  12. Oh man, you're right. I don't know anything about drag competition. Wow, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for that Pontiac Sunfire vs Nissan 350Z race. Or maybe the Sunfire vs. new Eclipse for some FWD v. FWD action. Way to level the playing field. I'm not jumping on any 'e-racer bandwagon.' The rules and the events themselves are stupid and I will never attend. I had my mind made up long before you posted this. I think NOPI Tunervision helped me make up my mind. You have 27 posts on here and they're all promoting this stupid event and making condecending remarks to people that don't see it your way. Just go away and forget about it. [ 25. 13. I know there are rules to 'level the playing field' but forcibly restricting cars from entering because of where their parent company is located is about the gayest thing ever. When I go to an event I want to see the best of the best go against each other. The rules posted for the "ALL MOTOR QUICK 4 HEADS UP" class are obviously handicapping certain cars. Give me street classes of 4, 6, and 8 cylinders, drag classes of the same, and an unlimited class. Then I may be interested in watching some actual competition.
  14. If it's put up or shut up then why do they have to have gay rules on what can and can't race. Why can't there just be a "car" event instead of this gay import shit that has to be separated. Everyone should race eachother no matter where their car was built. Actually that's a perfectly legit reason not to attend, so shut the fuck up. [ 24. 16. http://videos.streetfire.net/Player.aspx?fileid=EDFA6396-058C-4B66-B106-F9C147B2478F&p=0 I passed a few on the freeway the other day
  17. If I were there I'd be cheering too. But it'd be for the guy in the drivers seat saving a $100k car. He got that thing stopped just in time.
  18. Yeah, this happend not too long ago. Within the last year. I forget their names so I'm worthless though.
  19. Buck531 did everything concieveable to his L36.
  20. Oh yeah...and two 'special' mustangs passed me on the freeway yesterday too.
