Well I think it is good to hear they got enough signatures to let the people of Ohio deside what happens and not some radical group of bible thumpers and our elected officials. It should be interesting to see the ads for this issue come election time.

I personally have no issues/fears of driving, but my girlfriend has such anxiety when she's not behind the wheel that in heavy traffic she actually has to turn her eyes away from the road. We were driving through Chicago and she had to lay her seat back so as to not see all the traffic ahead. She gets so worked up over the sight of brake lights that I honestly think it's turning into a serious issue. There could be 30 car lengths between myself and the car ahead of us and if it happens to tap it's brakes for whatever reason, "Tim...brake lights...TIM"

 

It mainly stems from her having been in a few accidents where other people were driving, but those were years ago and she still has this fear. I've been in one very minor accident where I was hit in the side at 5mph so I guess I don't fully understand her anxiety, but I'm trying to relate to her situation when she's not in control. Just gets tired hearing "Tim...brakes" nearly every time we're in the car.

PS: Defensive driving course would be the way to go. Have some fun, learn some stuff, and get over your fears, all at the same time.

In ohio, the only information that holds up in court is what the officer knew at the time of the arrest. If he arrested you without cause and then found out a bunch of shit afterwards, none of it can be used. I learned about this in a class we were forced to attend as part of joining a fraternity, a campus lawyer detailed all of it for us. You've all seen cops lie to people to get them to admit to things before, this is no different. They rely on the fact that a ridiculous percentage of americans have absolutely no idea what their rights are/what the police are allowed to do/request.

Keep in mind when reading the following story: I was as respectful and levelheaded as humanly possible throughout all of this. I've always found that being courteous to people can get you much farther than being a jackass.

I was in Chicago in december of two thousand five for a halo tournament. We were in a hotel, and the person sharing the room with me was twenty one, so there were empty beer bottles in the room. We were being kinda loud, laughing and what not, because we were playing Halo. The hotel security guard came to our door, and once he saw the beer bottles, he called the police. When they got there, they asked who had been drinking. The guy who was over twenty one said he had, and everyone else said they hadnt. The cops then asked everyone for IDs, and I told them my name, date of birth, and address, which is the only thing Im required to give in that situation by law. I also asked for a breathalizer test to prove that I wasnt drinking, and thats when they got angry. They slammed me into a wall and cuffed me, yelling some shit about how I was "Some sort of lawyer smart-ass punk kid." They walked me out through the hotel lobby where about a hundred halo people were congregating, threw me in the car, and took me down to the station. Once they got me there and chained me to a bench in a holding cell, they tried to scare the crap out of me by telling me they could keep me in there for three days without a phone call or anything. Once they finally figured out that I knew my rights, hadn't been drinking, and wasn't going to "succumb to fear," they wrote me a bullshit "local ordinance violation" and took seventy five bucks in cash from my wallet. My court date was set for a few weeks later, when I would be back in ohio. I called about a week prior to my court date and asked the guy what would happen if I didnt show up. He told me that not showing up would be an admittance of guilt, that it wouldnt even go on any records outside of Rosemont, and that all they would do is keep my seventy five dollars.

If you're completely okay with this story and see no reason why people shouldnt do whatever police officers tell them, you're completely out of your fucking mind.

Secondly, let me elaborate furthur as to why it bothers me. The United States military is the peaches and cream of this country. Its what makes us a Super Power, and not a counrty at civil war. If a hispanic wants to become legal and join up to the Army, FANTASTIC! Im not opposed to that at all... but people should have enough respect for something so sacred to this country's history, as NOT to represent it in another language. Im sure it pissed a lot of people off when those school kids dropped the US flag, and put the Mexican flag abouve it didnt it? Why? Because its a principle... you dont come into another country and disrupt its history in any way shape or form. Whats next... mexican flags on the uniforms? If you fight for the US army, you represent the UNITED STATES and NOWHERE ELSE! You cant represent the United States sometimes. You either have love for the country and let everyone know it, or you pretend and disgrace it when ever you feel homesick.

 

Thats like having a born and raised German go over to Poland join the military, and have a polish military banner written out in German... how well do you think that would go over... probably not so good. Or a even better... wha if about 20yrs ago a US citizen joined up and have the same thing in Russian... im pretty sure that dude would have a MOAB targeting his front door in about 9 seconds. Oh wait, Im pretty sure Lee Harvely Oswald did, and they charged him with high treason.

 

Just because one isnt in the military, doenst mean they dont have pride in thier country either. I didnt join because i didnt agree with the actions of the military 5 yrs ago. But you can bet your supra driving ass that when those bastards come rolling up on the beaches of Virgina, Florida, and South Carolina, ill be in the car loaded up with everything i got to do my part in defending the ground i live on.
