  1. Taxpayers have been and will continue to fund all of Musk's adventures. Whether it's via policies that allow him to supply pollutant-belching companies to buy carbon credits instead of paying fines to the EPA for environmental damage they do, direct government subsidies or payments, or tax incentives for putting his plants in Random Patch of Desert X instead of Random Patch of Woodland Y. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-hy-musk-subsidies-20150531-story.html Hooray for taxpayers indeed. Not that NASA isn't out of control, but Musk's marketing team are the real rock stars, Musk is just the fancy boy frontman dancing around in leopard pattern tights for the world's fanbois to fellate. EDIT: This post wasn't meant to comment on the amazing feat in the OP, just meant to express my thoughts on people who jump at any opportunity to suggest Musk is the savior of the universe.
  2. PM me your contact info plz. An employee of my fiancées is looking for a solid car under $3k, I'll pass the info along.
  3. What I've read so far is that Ian is stable but sedated, with severe injuries.
  4. So what would you charge to someone who provided you with a shell (working or not) who wanted you to create one of these for them? Asking for myself and probably a friend or two.
  5. Big time! I gave the brake spring to my boss who has a G27 and he's smitten, he's the one who has a full on mega rig. 2 GTX 970s, 3 27" 2k monitors, Obutto chair, etc. he's balls-to-the-wall with iRacing.
  6. I watched an Uber driver going the wrong way on 4th st last night then try to pull a U-turn across traffic to correct himself. Never had a bad experience with Uber but now I'm concerned...
  7. Thanks for writing all that, and yeah I'm really interested in the track/car dynamics like you said. I got my first real taste of it in Project Cars driving formula cars on the Nurburgring and having them get tossed around due to the roughness of the track was surprising and pleasing. I like games at opposite ends of the spectrum; I either want a totally immersive sim experience like iRacing, or I want it full on cartoon-level arcade game like NFS: Underground 2. The stuff in the middle like Forza bores me pretty quickly.
  8. This is really only tangentially related since it's a Model S, but there was a head-on-collision last night on 270 involving a Tesla and a 2008 Cobalt. The Cobalt was being driven in the wrong direction by a 24 year old woman who died. The Tesla driver was treated at the scene, minor injuries. Obviously the pictures aren't great, but just look at the condition of each car...the Tesla looks nearly untouched for a high-speed hit, and that Cobalt is literally 100% fucked. http://nbc4i.com/2016/04/08/serious-crash-shuts-down-part-of-i-270-in-west-columbus/ Again, I'm a pretty hardcore Tesla hater but the crash safety cannot be denied. Damn.
  9. Yeah my boss said something about them adding dirt tracks which seems cool. I'm more interested in driving Lime Rock and Mid-Ohio since I've done those IRL and want to see how they compare, and they're not really available in any other games.
  10. Any of you fuckers into it? I have a Logitech G29 and I've been playing the fuck out of Project Cars (Formula Gulf and GT3/4 cars all day) but my coworkers have gotten into iRacing and the peer pressure is nonstop. I'm not into subscription games AT ALL but I do love sim racing with this wheel. I've got the rig to support it (FX 8350, 16GB RAM, GTX 970, 128GB dedicated gaming SSD) but I'm unlikely to get into serious racing leagues; I'll probably just race casually with friends or occasionally by myself in a random room. I'm not a big fan of having to buy tracks and cars in an already-subscription game either, but whatever. Honestly one of the things that piqued my interest was watching my coworker go head-to-head fighting for position with Rubens Barrichello. Apparently lots of pros use iRacing and that's a pretty damn cool selling point. I'm also wondering if this will give me a better appreciation for oval racing, since i know from a driver's perspective it's a million times more exciting than spectators. EDIT: Also I'm getting a 65" 4K TV soon and I want to play on that.
  11. One goes into your mom, the other comes out of her?
  12. In a vacuum it's not a bad thing, but when you're comparing to cylinder-deactivation equipped V8s with gobs of torque and tuning ability that can still get mid-high 20s HWY, it's a tough sell.
  13. As if a rotary needs any help getting worse gas mileage.
  14. In today's world I can't see a torqueless wonder that eats oil and probably gets 20 hwy MPG succeeding against the vast array of sports cars out there with traditional, torquey motors that are more fuel efficient than ever.
  15. "My name's Artemis, and I have a bleached asshole."
  16. No, this article is about drinking pussy beer, not which beer pussies drink.
  17. Let's name this thing: Coochiebräu Buterusweiser Pisslsner Sloppy Seconds Stout Back Door Porter UTI-PA Snatch Small Batch Dogfish Head 394200 minute (9 month) IPA That Time of the Month Red Ale go go go
  18. Oy mate yew don't really want that sheila to give you wallaby willy do ya now? So nut up, have a foster's, get chuffed in your guff and find another missus to bury your dingo in.
  19. My fiancee and I saw Bert with my friend and his wife for my friend's birthday. I had no idea who he was going into the show and I laughed harder at him than I ever did seeing my favorite comedians live (Jim Gaffigan, Mitch Hedberg, Colin Mochrie, etc). The dude has epic stage presence and it didn't hurt that he went about 45 minutes beyond when his set was supposed to end. He owned the crowd and absolutely fed off it, every time he ended a story and started with the "well that's it for me.....FUCK IT I'm having fun let's do another." The Machine story was supposed to be end of his set but it really was only the beginning. Oh right, this is a political discussion. carry on.
  20. Posting so I'm subscribed to this thread. I get these weird bonuses from FCA that come in the form of "points" to spend in the company store. All the prices for things are outrageous because they're based on MSRP for whatever you buy, but Samsung and LG tvs can be had for a reasonable cost so I'm looking at one of those in the 55-65 range. I've always wanted a samsung tv but every LG i've had was great and customer service was fantastic.
  21. I have an M&P Shield 9, and while I never had an XDs, I did have an XDm-9. I truly loved the XDm for it's large capacity and weight (I tend to like a heavy gun) but through a series of sales and trades ended up with this Shield. Honestly if I could go back and get my XDm I would, I really love that gun, but only because of the size. If what you want is a carry piece, the Shield gets my vote.
