  1. TL;DR CTD was just a massive cover up for breast reduction surgery?
  2. This is the crux of the issue, you are fundamentally misunderstanding the difference between a law and a constitutional amendment. That's what RO is banking on, that a bunch of misinformed stoners will blindly vote "yes for pot bruh!!!"
  3. I have been fortunate to work for a dealer that doesn't get involved in this sort of random bullshit, but I believe this is correct. Dealers pay into the fund so that customers can be quickly and easily refunded, and then the AG/Fund goes after the dealer to recover the money. I've only ever had one issue of a title taking a while to get to a customer/lender, and it was because Toyota FS was being giant cunts about releasing the lien to us (non Toyota dealer). I couldn't understand why they didn't automatically issue a lien release when the original loan on the FRIGGIN 1999 LAND CRUISER was satisfied in 2005, but alas sitting here in 2015 I had to deal with those boneheads. Still, the customer had already given us the title it was only an issue of getting transferred and we had it done in less than 3 weeks.
  4. Make sure you do everything through proper, recorded channels so you cover your ass if they try to make an issue out of it. It may be prudent to contact an attorney that specializes in lemon law and TDRF cases in Ohio since you're out of state. Keep in mind that you'll have to drive that truck back here within 3 days IIRC.
  5. I understand that, but that's why it should be a law. Keep politicians accountable, if they decide to go against the will of the people they get voted out of office. A constitutional amendment, while more protected against political interests, is also a lot harder to change. Put simply, I'd rather have a law that is susceptible to repeal than an oligopoly that is constitutionally embedded and nearly impossible to modify.
  6. Making weed legal needs to be a LAW, not a fucking CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.
  7. Sick car but I can never unsee the Mazda logo on the wheels. I know it's the Corvette logo but still...
  8. Old college roommate of mine works for Sonos and (obviously) says their shit is amazing. He went to Berklee college of music though so he knows a bit about music
  9. EPA is saying VW could be on the hook for $18bn, which we all know will be settled at a much lower amount. Cut that to 10% and it's still double the fine levied on GM. If there's anything good to come out of this, hopefully it promotes healthy debate on the status quo of diesel emissions regulations, which are insane compared to gas motors. I just hope it doesn't make other manufacturers curtail their potential diesel programs for NA.
  10. Great explanation. I think one of the main ramifications of this will be warranties; if you don't get the recall done and run your car outside of manufacturer specs, will they honor the warranty? This isn't a Magnusson-Moss Act issue either, I could see federal emissions law trumping that.
  11. It's not about the consumer retail market, it's about the supplier market for vehicle manufacturers. Denso recently dealt with the same issue http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/denso-corp-executive-agrees-plead-guilty-price-fixing-automobile-parts-installed-us-cars
  12. You keep that up you're gonna get suspended from the board. Don't expect anyone to spring you from e-jail. I'm sure you'll rebound gracefully, but every bump stops you from advancing in life. As long as no one shuffles off their mortal coil over this, though, we'll all be ok.
  13. My uncle is a huge single malt fan and Bowmore is his favorite brand. He got my dad a bottle of 12 year which I promptly stole (dad's not a scotch fan) and enjoyed thoroughly with friends. When I was working at the liquor store in Boston we had a scotch specialist on staff, his favorite was Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask for regular drinking and Glenmorangie 18 for special occasions.
  14. Eric Hammersmith, not a forum member but a good friend of mine
  15. Appreciate the offers for trailering but I'm gonna do this myself. I'm not going to make it back home for Thanksgiving or Christmas this year so I want to take this opportunity to spend some time with family. Seriously, though, I appreciate the offers. It's part of why CR is such a great community.
  16. I'm sure it has to do with sales. It used to be that the "top of the line" version of a car was ultra-lux, a bit more toned down style-wise, and was all about isolating onesself from the road. Then there were the "skunkworks" type cars, the M3, the S4, the C43 AMG, et al. Cars that tore out all the luxury stuff and threw on mega brakes, tight suspension, manual-only configurations for the true petrolhead that wanted something high end and fast as hell. But then those started being the cars that everyone talked about, not the ultra-lux "top of the line". So the rich guys got sick of people saying "Oh you got the S600? Should've got the S55, it's better." even though for their purposes, the S600 was more than enough even if it didn't look like it. So what do the top of the line guys do? They go buy the high performance versions but they want things like power heated/cooled seats, backup cameras, auto transmissions, and all the other things they could get on their luxobarges. So the manufacturers respond, and over time we end up with M5s with piped-in engine noise, AMG cars that no one would ever take to a track, and an S4 available only with the worst of 3 transmission options.
  17. Just saw this car in person recently. Really beautiful, tastefully done. I remember thinking how great the rear de-badging looked.
  18. I have 3 years of experience on my moto temps. Will be getting my endorsement 10/4/2015 but I have, for the most part, been a law abiding citizen and therefore I have minimal experience on highways. What experience I do have has been on sparsely populated highways with wide shoulders/runoffs on a much more maneuverable sportbike with nearly double the power of the BMW where I could just twist the throttle and be out of harm's neighborhood in 3 seconds. I've done the I-80 drive probably 50 times since 2001 when I moved to OH from New England and it's one of the busiest shipping routes in the country. It can be harrowing in a car, let alone on a bike upon which I have zero riding experience. I don't know what the bike is like when it's being buffeted by a semi. I don't know what it's like in a highway construction zone. I don't know what it's like after 5 hours of riding with another 5 to go. Am I afraid? no. I'm pretty sure my riding skills will allow me to adapt quickly enough and I'd probably have no issues. But that's not good enough. As I've said, I've done that I-80 drive often enough that I've seen people whose skills were "probably" good enough have their guts spilled all over that roadway thanks to some careless semi driver, or because they couldn't handle their bike. I want to enjoy this bike and my life for many years, not become a vegetable because I was PROBABLY skilled enough. That's why I created the thread; get opinions. I definitely value yours and riding it back is not off the table, but the concerns others have brought up (unfamiliar bike, lots of trucks, etc) are enough that if I was going to ride it back, I'd probably want 3-5 days in which to do it so I could just take back roads and make a real vacation/journey out of it.
  19. Trailer it is! Thanks for all the advice, I was leaning towards a 2-day ride but the last thing I want to do is wreck my new bike or end up twisted in the axles of a semi. And yeah, it's pretty ridiculous that he's giving this thing to me. He's always been this "whatever, I'm not a millionaire but I have something that'll make you happy so you have it" kinda guy. He never rides it anymore, just likes to take it out of the garage and clean it every so often.
  20. Well my insane uncle has decided to gift me his 2004 BMW R1200C (the James Bond bike from Tomorrow Never Dies), but he's in CT and can't ride it out here. I'm probably going to fly out in mid-October to retrieve it but I've never done any kind of long distance cross-country ride before, and the fastest route is I-80 which is pretty much all truckers which concerns me a bit. It's a pretty basic cruiser, no bags and just a luggage rack on the back fender. 5-speed and since it's a boxer I assume it's gonna vibrate like a motherfucker. Probably a 10 hour ride door to door with minimal stops for food/piss/gas. I'm debating whether I want to ride it all the way or just rent a truck one-way and bring it in the bed/rent a uhaul bike trailer. Anyone have similar experience with pros/cons?
