  1. This is a good idea, also see if there are any businesses in the vicinity of where the car was stolen. I think from reading earlier you know what direction the thief took off in, so maybe canvas that are just in case someone had a camera pointed at the street.
  2. Do you place potatoes directly on the grill? I make a pouch out of foil and put some chopped garlic, rosemary, butter, salt and pepper in and let them cook that way. EDIT: Also real butter is a must, agreed.
  3. i've not done that before but I'm gonna from now on. :megusta:
  4. the resting part is very important. it allows the still-piping hot juices to continue cooking/breaking down the meat inside without burning the outside of the steak. i never get a steak thinner than 1", ideally as stated before 1.5" is ideal. I prefer much less salt and more pepper (I use both black and white peppercorns) on the rub, I like the spice.
  5. Good, thanks. As I said, start calling around to local dealers and say you suspect someone who stole the car is trying to turn around and sell it, tell them to call the owner if that VIN comes in for an appraisal.
  6. We don't always require the title to be present upon sale. We have the customer fill out a power of attorney form that allows us to apply for a new title if the other one is lost (more common than you think). The only thing that'd jump out is if a lien is reported and the seller doesn't know who it's financed with, or doesn't know any finance details at all. That raises lots of questions. A dealer would remember that. Just post the full VIN here.
  7. Also, someone call that lot to see if the car was appraised, with full VIN. Dealer should have it if they know what they're doing.
  8. I don't know if Carfax allows it, but I wonder if there's a way to search if/what sources a carfax report has been pulled? If the guy's been spotted at dealers, he may be trying to trade it in or sell it. Some dealers will pull Carfax when they appraise it (we do). Maybe see if there are any leads to chase down that route?
  9. I've spoken with the owner a couple times, he seems like a good dude.
  10. Obviously your old lady neighbor.
  11. and probably none of them for less than $45k, this statement based on no research whatsoever
  12. VW is a primary reason for the lack of diesels from other manufacturers. VW almost has a monopoly on the diesel market in the U.S. so the cost/benefit for other manufacturers makes it a very risky move. No executive wants to be responsible for thousands of unsold cars with millions of dollars of R&D behind them because they couldn't get their foot in the door. FIAT is also a worldwide leader in diesel motors (they own VM Motori), and I can say with absolute certainty that if FIAT had a diesel 500, it'd probably account for < 1% of our sales. I probably get asked if FIAT will offer a diesel in any model in the future maybe 3 times a year. Furthermore, the price of diesel in the U.S. makes it so that while diesel cars can carry a premium (as VW does) it has to be high enough to make it worthwhile for the manufacturer to produce it but low enough for consumers to actually buy it. VW's market share is large enough that the premium is lower than it'd be for other manufacturers.
  13. Bingo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tax This is why they never do it. 25% tariff would make it pointless. The "Thai spec" comment makes me worried that the Colorado diesel won't make it here either.
  14. it's even got caps on the points so it doesn't hurt when Jones passes it
  15. Only because that's all that was left...not that we all couldn't afford more on our $200k/week salary, but if you bought appropriate weights for your abilities there would be a worldwide shortage of iron and you wouldn't want to cause economic upheaval.
  16. I'd be fine with self-driving cars as long as I've got the ability to opt out. Cars are how I engage in the beautiful landscape of Earth, and I want to be behind the wheel.
  17. BRB while I ready my snifter of brandy, put on a Vivaldi record, and equip my shatter-proof monocle in case this New Yorker article has any stunning revelations.
  18. This is CR, where everyone is a doctor-lawyer who bench presses 600lbs and drives a turbo-nuclear powered F-body.
  19. This is very obviously the story the media is trying to sell without actually saying it. I personally think justice was served as best was possible with the horrible case the prosecution presented, but there's no doubt in my mind that GZ is a bit of a gung-ho vigilante who understands the system too well for his own good.
  20. Still, he can't seem to stop sticking his dick in crazy.
  21. This thread broke my fail-o-meter
  22. Dude is a prime example of why some people's "inalienable" rights should be suspended due to overwhelming retardation and immaturity.
  23. This. While Button is a world champion, he's obviously not a competitive enough driver. I think Perez suffers from the Ro-Gro anxiety of years past. He needs a good team chief to help him calm down and start racing to win 60 laps, not just beating the driver ahead of him on that particular lap. He's had bad luck with an inferior car this year, but I think whoever picks him up will see some success.
