  1. my advice, use at your own risk... Non sythetic oil Break it in on boost, minimal boost, and dont take the engine above 3000rpm for about 500mi, then change the oil, put the boost where you want it,and mouse it around for a few hundred more miles. Hope its right, that's what I'm planning on doing You want tradidtional oil because of the way it reacts witht he metal, it "absorbes" it...for lack of a large vocabulary. lol
  2. True... more important than the turbo itself is the hardware/software to tune the thing in order to keep it together.... Doesnt your motor have the cast pistons? If so, you'll break/melt the ring lands off with a quickness with a poor tune.</font>felas fellas fellas, I got it covered infact, come to the meet tonight andI'll show ya. I've contacted a former ford engineer, current roushe engineer about this. My stock eninge is good to handle about 400bhp, 450 max. I'll spool the shit out of a T72 on the new moter, this one is just to play around. And, as for the tune, I'll have the best possible, a custom EEC reflash on a dyno by said ford guru. Were I'm about to get confused is choosing and operating blow offs, waste gates, and other such devices I know jack aout.
  3. Just had this conversation with a ford tech who's for gotten more then I'll ever know about EEC tuning and boosting modulars. lol I wanted to run a 125 Zex shot, he suggested 24-30# and 190lph fuel pump. Your computer regulates the fuel presure for you. I was going to have him burn me a "flip chip" for the N2o, but I decided a turbo would be more worth the cash. Essential you get a chip burned to make your car run pig richa nd retarted with no speed/rev limiters (dont want any fuel cut offs). The chip won plug direcly into the EEC-V, but into a device that allows you to turn it on and off. This guy is doing Dyno tunes at Steigmeier Dnyon in St louis Mo. The tune will run you about $300. He will run your car onthe dyno under spray a bunch of timesand set the optimal setting for your specific car, as custom as it gets. It'l be july 20'th ish, you have to preregister. If oyu want more info I'll hook ya up.
  4. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT!? I've never been so insulted! tongue.gif 4cly!? 6cly!? Boich, I'm boosting a V8, 281 cui SOHC. ok, jokin aside... I am mimicing a kit made by TDC for the 4.6 mustangs. Given that all the tubing is chassis specific, the only thing I could use from the kit would be the T66, or t-76, depending on which kit you pick. I'mplumbing, fitting, and testing onthe OE engine in preparation for the aluminum, all forged, 6 bolt main, studded, girdled, and ported 4.6 SOHC taken to 8.5:1 and given everything that a T-76 can put out. I've decided to watch, and bid....Unless you guys know where I can find a T76 or T72 under a grand....?
  5. deposited my check today, and found out *gasp!* I have too much money saved up! I must remidie this immediatly! What I've got is a 96 Thunderbird with the 4.6. It makes peak power (190 at the wheels) at 4200 and slopes evenly to 170 at redline. I'm leaning toawerd a turbonetics T-series T72, the 76 is a bit pricey. Can anyone recomend a Turbo for my application? I'd like to stay around 400bhp since the engine is basicaly stock, aside the replaced intake manifold. Any recomendations? btw, i dont have room for two, I'm looking for a big single. thanks edit: hjow about this, should I bid? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1838081925 [ 23 June 2002, 03:12 AM: Message edited by: BlackBird ]
  6. as you could see,my Fisk Phantoms stuck my ass tot he road quite nicely, call Discount Tire Co. for sizes. Mine are 245/50/16, cost $92. Look for: traction rating A speed rating Z big tread blocks stiff walls Keep in mind, the big blocks are great on dry pavement, and only dry pavement. tongue.gif here ya go, $173 a pop on TireRack.com http://www.tirerack.com/tires/images/hoosier/hoosier_a3s03.jpg [ 19 June 2002, 04:09 PM: Message edited by: BlackBird ]
  7. hunting for a set of 24# injectors for my 4.6, and I'd like to know what I can use. I know LS1 injectors will fit, others have said that "if tis bosch style injector, it will fit", and I can get a set of Accels that match that description new for 2 bills. anyone have any info that will saveme the guess work? Thanks [ 18 June 2002, 06:46 PM: Message edited by: BlackBird ]
  8. well dude, hate to brake it to ya, but it will likely be a daaaaaawwg even with the 455. I've heard what they make, but i forgot, some where around...390 sounds right. I know a guy to ask, he might be out to the spot tonight, his entire family has raced Old's for decades.
  9. ahh, the simplicity of a 5.0. rl has a mean 5.0 cougar, he's chuck full of info on it.
  10. likely a sensor that costs $.50 to make, $50 to buy, and $500 to install. lol describe the idel,is it rough just in idle or throughout the power band? You might just have a bad plug/wire. Also, check and make sure that all the tubes/hoses are properly connected to teh intake tract. 87, were those mas air or speed density? [ 13 June 2002, 12:57 AM: Message edited by: BlackBird ]
  11. Cheap welder, $300-400 2.5" maderel pipe from jegs, $15-17 ea (you'll need a few) Being able to design your own exhaust system w/o the Man keepin ya down, Priceless.
  12. Well,i get my info from Dan 'the man' Newman, parts@fivestarford.com TCCoA members get discounts from him, and being a member, thats who I deal with. Not only that, but he bends over backwards for ya, "the man" is well earned. You could probably find something in the 02 FRPP catalog, but i dont have that yet.
  13. They did, they made three and ran a couple onthe power tour. They got a cobra DOHC with the prototype Eaton setup that exists now on the lightnig (different manifold of course). They would have gon into production in 98, if only..*sniffle sniffle* I dont wanna talk about it! tongue.gif And, Tbirds and cougars got 5.0s in 91-93,mated to an AOD. And Computerguy5, good idea. You can get a 94 with crazy high miles for dirt cheap, swap in a PI top end and reuse the EEC-V and most of the wiring. Actualy, if you want to get nutty, Ford now sells a '98 DOHC/T-45 combo for about $6g. The EEC-V works on the engine, not sure if the combo comes with the wiring harness though, it should. Throw some gears at it and you'll be breaking half shafts along with rl just found this, read up: http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ar/eb40228.htm [ 06 June 2002, 10:59 PM: Message edited by: BlackBird ]
  14. What kind of specs are you looking for? Hp wise, 94-95 and 96-97 were rated at 205 at the flywheel, and put about 170 of it to the wheels through the power sucking 4R70W. 94-95 got an optional 3:08 or 3:27 rear gear, with track lock asan option. 96-97 all got 3:27, track lock was also an option. 94-95 engines are very reliable, I only know of one to have broken, out of the 800 or so that are in my other club www.tccoa.com But, also, the transmissions are not reliable, bad valve body, but you're getting a t-45, so I guess it wont mater. 96-97 had the dreaded plastic intake manifold, around 60K miles, some tend to crack the water jacket just behind alternator. Itsa reacallpart, ford will fix it for free, and havetopay for the tow. But it's a popular recal item and is on back order. My recomendation, get a 96 sport. In 96-97 there was a sport option,it came with revalved shocks, low/tighter spring, bigger sway bars, and 4 wheel disk brakes. The standear LX got a 4 wheel disk option, but the sports front brakes are 11.5", much bigger. I recomend the 96 because of the gauges. In 97, ford got cheap, so no more full instrumentation. Any more questions, just ask. I'v been in to these cars about 3 years now, this is my 2nd. http://www.tccoa.com/rides/pics/groeri.jpghttp://www.tccoa.com/rides/pics/buck.jpg
  15. phone book, "columbus custom plating and bumper" but they dont do rims for some reasond. anyone know one that does rims?
  16. Friend of mine has 2 2nd gen supras, one turbo, one N/A. They both have 120K+ on'm. The N/A runs, and the turbo's wiring is fried. With the 2 cars, does he have enough to make one functional turbo car? I know many other cars with blown options have different motors, the only similarity being displacement, are supra's the same?
  17. does the amount of smoke increase with rpms? Could be rings, not sure why it's idling high though. How does he "treat" the car?
  18. ...and its more aerodynamic on the highway. Thats good city mileage Nosthunder, but the highway...eep. Your city mileage is rated at 17 city and 25 highway from the factory. Since your engine has some miles on it, it might be a bit less, mods will effect it too. But dude, if you're worried about gas milage, you're in the wrong hobby. j/k [ 07 May 2002, 06:41 PM: Message edited by: BlackBird ]
  19. Definatly, do not drive it at all, dont run it, dont start it, dont look at it crosseyed. As for the recall, a freind of mine blew the gaskets on his Sables 3.8 and did warp the heads and spun a crank bearing. Under the recal, he recived a whole new engine...then totaled the car.
  20. Good news, many of fords 3.8's have headgaskets coverend under a recall, cuz they suck. Check with you closest Ford service place to see if you're qualified. What year/options is it? Is it an LX V6 or a Super coupe? If its' not covered, goto the forums on this page, www.tccoa.com, many there can help ya, might be able to walk ya through the replacement.
  21. dude, save money, a turbo kills 2 birds with one stone, intake and exhaust. And whats this "too much horsepower" you speak of? I've never heard of that here. As for brands, none, make your own. The kits available are overpriced and make your car sound more like a motorcycle then a car. Ask around some exhaust shops with a pipe bender, and buy a mellow muffler. Headers, the cheapest you can find, their all just made out of pipe. What car do you have? If your not worried about making more power, why do you want an exhaust system? 22. doo do do doo doo dooooo! To Ebay! www.ebaymotors.com
  23. I've heard of the problem on SCs under boost, does it do it when you rev it in N, or just in gear? Common solutions seem to be changing: plugs injectors blower (if you're unlucky), snout(if you's lucky) Come drive Jesses XR7, see if its the same behavior. Whaere did you get the turbo, have anyone check it out?
  24. id offer ya my garage free...if it were mine. lol I use my parents garage too, might be able to help ya though, i have wrenches and a hacksaw. what system did you get?
  25. right, Geddex or Dial-In. Stuff comes off so much easier. I've used shoe polish over a year now, theres still stuff stuck the the window.
