  1. I'm in! When else would this sort of offer be presented to you? Should I worry about ricochet...?
  2. +1. Love the minivan. Fuck the shitty Dodge Journey.
  3. After tightening the A/C pulley and belt, I still had a little bit of A/C clutch slippage at higher RPM's than at idle, so I did a little searching, and found this tutorial: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33308 I couldn't be happier. The clutch on the E36 BMW is super easy to remove from the compressor. I cleaned the mating surfaces, removed a couple of the small spacers, and reinstalled. NOW I can rev it up to 3k+ and it engages the A/C, with a very nice blast of cold air.:thumbup: I do love how easy this era of BMW 3-series has been to work on (in general )
  4. Was thinking the same thing. That turbo is LHD-friendly...not so much for the Brit's and Pacific-Rim countries.
  5. http://drivingsalesnews.com/isis-turns-to-running-car-dealerships-to-make-up-for-lower-oil-income/ If the shoe-bomb fits...
  6. Aside from Corvette, I'm so over Chevrolet: they have a few tricks up their sleeve they pull out only when competition forces them to, and THEN they do a half-assed job of it. At least Cadillac has more style with their GM performance chassis tech. The new Camaro's seem to be good on paper and when I watch Head2Head on MotorTrend Online - but the styling in person is so blah and the interior dimensions are very weird and clunky. Camaro VS Mustang? Mustang all the way. However, for the money I'd be happier with a used CTS-V or ATS-V.
  7. If the kid got your money via Kickstarter, he's smarter than you.
  8. Thank you, chancellor. Will take that under advisement. Because these are small rock chips over the last few decades that were allowed to start rusting over, I liked the idea of a targeted blast of material in a small area. when I think of sanding, I think of a bigger area of damage from the repair, and a lot more elbow grease. Plus, some of the media options do a better job removing the rust and prepping the metal for primer and paint. That's my thought process anyway.
  9. Thanks everyone! Hoblick, I need to talk to you about H-D stuff anyway...will shoot you a text. Shawn, online reviews said that the HF guns come from the factory partially clogged LOL...not sure if that's part of the problem...
  10. http://www.harborfreight.com/15-lb-portable-soda-blaster-60802.html http://www.harborfreight.com/21-oz-hopper-gravity-feed-spot-blaster-gun-95793.html I'm looking to blast rust off of small, sub-nickel-sized rock chips in the rockers of my '78 Lincoln to treat and repaint. Yes, I know I'm looking at Harbor Freight (as opposed to Eastwood). Anyone used these tools for media blasting? Experiences? Materials used?
  11. OK...so someone please explain this one to me... http://gizmodo.com/teen-discovers-lost-maya-city-using-ancient-star-maps-1775735999 So, the theory from the Canadian kid that the location of ancient Mayan cities overlay perfectly with major stars in the constellations (117 cities in total) isn't what shocks me. Taking it further...how in the holy mega-Barbara Streisand Wide Wide World of Sports did the correlation exist in the first place??? How did Mayan civilizations plot their cities based on constellations, having no satellite imagery? If this was just a coincidence, that's equally amazing that the constellations provided an almost exact pinpoint on where the lost city was! I'm trying to wrap my head around this article...
  12. With the time it takes to keep this thread going, you could've done this bearing job in less than an hour. For what BMW owners say is a horrid job, I was amazed at how quickly the rear bearings came out and new ones went in. http://www.harborfreight.com/fwd-front-wheel-bearing-adapters-66829.html I wouldn't care, except I know you'll flip this wagon and try to make money off of another VAG car - might as well spend $100 on the tool that will help facilitate wheel bearing replacement for yourself at home, anytime. Sorry, Austin - not trying to keep you from new business but if we're going to keep seeing this thread pop up I might as well opine.
  13. The satisfaction I'm getting from reading this thread comes from not only the improvements you're making on a great old car, but seeing the fixes from a very cheap ownership history. Definitely clarifies that the easiest and fastest fix in the short run usually ends up being the worst in the long run.
  14. From my experience in FL: just because people are living in a $500k+ home does not mean they own said real estate...nor are they socially-qualified to live in that sort of neighborhood. Rednecks gon' neck... I'm sure Larry Joe is a 30+ year contractor that's owning/renting the house. He's passed out asleep inside while his football-star-son-now-doing-nothing LJ and his 25-34 year old friends are partying in the backyard because it's cheaper to hang out there with a 30-pack of Busch until 0530 than at a nightclub. Lucky you.
  15. Rhetorical question I find me asking of myself: "If an appliance was 4x more expensive than the norm today, but it would last nearly 20-25 years, is it worth it to me?" I'd have to say no, as the cheaper and more-efficient option tends to last longer than my perceived investment in the product.
  16. That's a great idea, actually...
  17. +1. Had that same problem on one of my GM Fullsize tee-ruks. Starter it was. Also, I saw pics of that S10 you got...it looks very clean. BUT, you'll want to check the charging system. If the battery cable to the starter is not in the best shape or connected properly, or the starter isn't bolted to the block well enough to ground it (or the block isn't grounded well), those can also affect the starter sequence. Starter motor first. RockAuto shows NEW starter motors for $50-$100.
  18. We had an IKEA inductive cooktop (I think it's a whirlpool brand) just fail on us after just under 3 years. $1000 unit. I looked at it, and checked online - but I couldn't figure out how might've been able to fix it. Thankfully, it had a 5 year warranty. Call them up...will they send someone out to service it? NOPE. Easier and cheaper to simply install another one and return the defective unit. Crazy how cheap we've all gotten.
  19. http://jalopnik.com/this-is-exactly-how-fucked-nycs-l-train-is-1775171998 I have family history in New York City, and worked through two companies in the area for a few years. I always said that I enjoy the city WITHOUT living there. Hearing all the rebuild stories from Hurricane Sandy, it's just scary to think about the logistical issues people will have getting around. I do love living in Columbus.
  20. The weather looks great...may try to make it out.
