4R70W transmission maintenance, mod and parts source

Checked them out, they don't seem to be using ford part numbers so I'm having trouble finding the correct parts. -
My 97 e150 has a delayed 2-3 shift, alldata lists an updated 2-3 accumulator piston as the fix. My plan: - replace 2-3 accumulator piston with updated part # F7AZ-7H292-AB - perform "j-mod" aka selectively drill the valve body for firmer shifts with less slippage - replace filter Any feedback on the viability of the J-mod and my delayed shift repair approach is appreciated. Does anyone have a specific Ford dealer/parts guy from which the prefer to purchase parts?

What bolts to that square flange? Brake backing plate?

Another vote for the modeling clay, my wife picked up a pound from one of the craft stores, I've done three cars with excellent results.

Price is now $1,440 thanks to Steve-o. I kid, I kid.
-
I'll be happy to mark the price back up if that's what you want

I have records going back about 10 years on the car. Also, just discovered bearing movement on the water pump, added it to the list and dropped the price.

750il 112,000 miles 5 liter V12 automatic $1300 The car runs and drives Quick list of problems: - water pump bearing play - not leaking but must be replaced - rear subframe bushings worn - multiple front suspension joint wear - rust along all four door bottoms - door locks do not work http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3099/4626823872_fd13fbf15e_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3310/4626821076_cbf90166b8_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3392/4626215845_c380e9b691_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4034/4626215319_3c3958f103_b.jpg

The interior is now clean, I'm not sure how much I'll re-install. As I feared the van is absurdly loud inside with no carpet or seats, I may try a layer of spray on bedliner to kill the noise. I would love to retain the hosability of no carpet. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4028/4647239791_1b7919fc95_b.jpg

Went with a repair bearing, unfortunately the axle tube also had some damage so I'll eventually need to replace the complete rear axle assembly.

Replaced the roasted rear wheel bearing last night, Erik come over to offer 'murican car tech support and assure me that everything would be fine. The old wheel bearing machined a 1/16th" groove into the axle which explained the excessive wheel play and horrible misbehavior under braking. New axles are around $150 which is far too much money to spend on beast van. I opted for a "repair bearing" which uses an offset housing to move the bearing to a new location on the stub axle. It's definitely a half assed fix so I'll be looking for a good used 8.8 rear end to replace this one. All of my tools are tailored to working on them 'ferrin cars so I didn't have the correct puller or slide hammer attachments to remove the old bearing race. Trick I learned from the ever helpful internet: remove the rollers from the race and weld a bead around the inside of said race, as the weld cools it shrinks allowing the race to be removed easily. Very nifty. I used a couple of shop rags taped to a length of flat bar to wipe most of the steel shavings from the axle tube. Erik didn't take any pictures of this process nor did we sing the chimney sweep song from Mary Poppins. I don't know why not. Test drove the van, no weird noises from the rear end, joy. Failed to do a burnout, sadness. Joy begins http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4061/4626179659_0563dab99a_b.jpg Me: is this a good idea? I put my turd-tow van on a lift this morning for a thorough checkout, the same thorough checkout which should have been done before purchase. I discovered that the passenger side rear wheel bearing is incredibly worn, the wheel moves about 1/4 inch. I assume I'll need a new axle shaft in addition to the wheel bearing and seal. I'm new to live rear axles so I have no idea what to expect, just wanted to get some input before I pull it apart and tie up my lift. 1997 e150 4.6 v8 178,000 miles

The rear seat will probably come out, probably insert a few hold tie strap loops into the floor for securing toolboxes etc. Dear Gabe, in anticipation of your ramping request I endeavored to launch Beast over a sweet jump, beast broke the ramp.

If the magnet fails to work you could try vacuum, I've used a section of clear thin walled nylon hose fitted to a shop vac to get out of some nasty situations. I wrapped a shop rag around the small hose, stuffed that into the shop vac hose and then taped it all up with duct tape.

I spent about 4 hours on Saturday heaving a mountain of detritus from the van, lots of food tins, food wrappers, instruments of food consumption and a little actual food. Also, the usual shoes, 5 ice scrapers, four cans of ice remover and three off-brand portable disk players. I've come to conclude that the previous owner loved food and music and feared ice. Also replaced the water pump which was not nearly as annoying as I anticipated, work access was decent after removing the air filter/maf assembly and the radiator shroud. Happily I found no stuck bolts or signs of hackery, what little maintenance was done on the van appears to have been handled by proper mechanics. I bought the van primarily as a means to transport my scirocco to Gainesville FL this fall for the GRM challenge, I've wanted a large towing capable hauler for years so this is most exciting. The plan is to first make the vehicle reliable and safe, then clean up/replace the interior before dealing with the paint. My goal is to stay under $1000 for everything, I'm about half way there after replacing the water pump/serpentine belt. 1997 ford e150 chariot conversion 178,000 miles 4.6 v8 4 speed automatic The van as purchased, 100% horrible: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1286/4603218607_803d345dbb_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1029/4604871335_a899cf5fef_b.jpg

Help removing excessive filth from upholstery
ansonivan replied to ansonivan's topic in Tech and Tips
I tried fire already, the flames wanted nothing to do with beast van. Bedliner might come into play on this project, I could ditch every scrap of fabric and go to town with the delightful textured coating. It would do a decent job of keeping noise down with the bonus of being pressure washable. It does smell like death so anything is possible. Doc, I'll almost certainly take you up on the ozone offer once the machine is reasonably clean and drivable. -
Help removing excessive filth from upholstery

Nice lady in north Clintonville, I believe it was being used as a camping vehicle, thus the mess. -
I picked up a tow vehicle this week, a 1997 e150 with 178k on the clock and an interior positively caked with food/drink remnants. Google suggests soda water/brush/water blotting rinse for removing soda stains from fabric. Ditching all of the affected panels would probably be the best approach but I would like to keep them for sound deadening. Any ideas appreciated.
