Hathcocks 1st tour in Vietnam was a 30-06 with an Unertal 8x scope, which is the famous sniper picture with the long sunshade scope, lying on his stomach with his hat with the feather, his 2nd tour 2 years later was a 308 with a 3X9 redfield scope. Plus another for the white feather book. A gift for Xmas, could not put it down, boring in parts but necessary to tell the whole aspect of his life, after reading I picked up marine sniper, hell of a man, props to anybody out there defending our freedom.

My reason, I really dont have a good specefic reason, I have been shooting since pretty much I could walk, 22 long rifle, shot guns, 22-250, 222, an array of AK and SKS, I got an AR 15, love it, enough shotguns to last me, couple of muzzleloaders, owned a few pistols. Shooting long range was just something I wanted to get into, very interesting to me and just soemthing I am wanting to get into. I shoot sporting clays, skeet, trap, wobble trap, and just looking for something different. I am sure I will use it on groundhogs but that big of a caliber will turn em inside out, cool regardless. I cant give anyone a steadfast reason why, just seems like 1 of those things I could enjoy, plus as long as they are taken care of, guns dont really lose value so if need be I can always change my mind down the road. oh and the 20 mm = BAD ASS

I kicked around a 50 cal, but ammo is pricey, recoil is managable, i just like that 308 look and feel, plus is not a chore to lug it around in the field. Well it was definatly goin to be a bolt gun, the ammo, will be reloaded, not at first, but after everything gets going and I like what I am working with, it will all be loaded by me. I have really been searching for a 308, I like the caliber alot, it seems from what I gather a very consistant hard hitting round, and 300 to 1000 yard shots seem to be obtainable with the right conditions and upgrades and practice. I threw the kimber in there for shits, I was really on the kick for 1 but I want a long range rifle. I also heard that rule of thumb as well about a scope, leaupold was my 1st choice, I have found decent prices, guess it just depends on the gun. Keep the input coming guys, thanks.

Well with tax time rolling around and money burning a hole in my pocket, I have decided to purchase a new weapon. I been doing some research and I am looking for a bigger bore rifle, 308 was 1 of my options I was really interested in, and I saw 2 decently priced 7mm Remingtons this evening. Any suggestions or ideas bout a rifle to try or look into or either of the 2 mentioned above? I am wanting a rifle to shoot pretty consistantly at 700 yards, why??? Because its what I want, lol. My other option that is on the back burner is a full frame Kimber Custom II, with the rail under barrel and the crimson trace grips. Discuss...

no way, my Acog is the 2nd love of my life, that scope impresses the hell out of me. i got a 30 mm aimpoint for X mas with a cantilever mount that I like for up close but 100 yards and up that ACOG is bad ass. Sweet pic though, made me want to drop some dime on the M4A3.

My GF and I flew to Ft. Lauderdale for around 52 bucks down and like 80 bucks back, keeping in mind we didnt find out till bout a 2 weeks before we could both get a week off. Of all the other places I checked it was the best. Flight down left on time, 2 hours 10 min and on the ground and rolling. Flight back was delayed 2 and 1/2 hours due to weather on an incoming flight, annoying yes but for 135 bucks we flew round trip. I would definatly bring your own snacks and drinks if possible, but I expected as much. They get you from point A to B, nothing more, I expected nothing more. We shared a soda on the way down and I snaked dunkin donuts on for the trip back. All and all I give it a thumbs up, I couldnt have even considered driving for that price.

100% agreed, I hear anything I dont like, the bolt goes closed on the AR-15 with a 30 round mag, loaded with a TAP round followed immeditely by a full metal jacket staggered every other 1 in the magazine, to cover any pesky body armor with a double tap. Thanks for the help guys, turns out the bearings in the nose just went and I had another magnuson nose laying around, its not great and has a little rattle to it but it will suffice for a little bit until I found factory nose someplace. I thought it took out the blower but when I got it apart I found bearing parts inside the nose so I did a little work and she fired up good as new for now. I am still on the hunt for a nose if anybody come across one for a deal. I wish I would have sold a spare I had to Tim King, lol. But thanks Chris and Buck, apprecaite the looking out.
