actully the cartridge on this one is unusually sound. I tore it down and it was put together quite well. There was no play anywhere, and the bushings in it were machined to tight tolerances... i was rather surprised and impressed to see such quality from it... I am planning on replacing the bushings with bearings, and putting good quilty gaskets in it before puting it on my masterpiece of an engine so as not to inject it with little bits of bronze, rubber, and aluminuim. The one thing that did catch my eye was that there isnt a thrust spring for the backing plate...

Turbonetics has a "BIG SHAFT" option... i ass-u-me that means its a bigger, meatier shaft... but whats the diameter? The shaft mine uses is 1/4" but I want to use a T-series backplate, wheel, and housing. Im just trying to figure out how big of a shim id have to use... if its too big... ill just use 62-1 gear.

I tore apart my "donor" turbo to see exactly what it is that fails... it was pretty obvious. On these first couple pictures, I inverted the colors to make the problem extremely visible... plus they were dark http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/mrmeanr/DSC00001.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/mrmeanr/DSC00002.jpg Now this gasket is not only entirely too thin, but its also about an easy inch too large, as well as split. With a 76mm wheel spinning at 80,000rpm... you can see why that could become a problem pretty quickly. Now the good news is, i never planed on running this side of the turbo... oh no, its too little.
