  1. The Insured Loss ALONE, BY ITSELF... was $9.3 billion. Thats just the total amount of money given out to familys from policies held by those who were killed. The Property damage was over $7 billion. The hit to Wall Street was $17.6 billion. The total amount of money issued for aid/relief, and clean up was $21.4 billion. Now i dont know how many millions of dollars was traded around and or lost by the mass of individuals involved with the stock market or mutal funds like myself, but even without that the finacial loss was $55.3 billion.... i dont know how much worse it can get w/o laying a mushroom cloud somewhere.
  2. Yea but the financial loss was far worse. The loss of life was the worst thing ever, but noone reembers how some peoples live were absolutly turned upside down because of the destruction of the offices in those buildings. Hell im not by any means rich, but i lost $29,000 on my mutal funds with Morgan Stanly after that. $29,000 is a BIG FUCKIN CHUNK OF CHANGE TO ME. Because of that i walked/ roller bladed 3.5 miles to work and home 4 days a week, lost my aprtment and lived out of my car and with friends for 6 weeks, and got tagged with a monster $6,600 college tuition bill 2 weeks after that... which i couldnt pay. I had to quit school because of that shit. In that time, despite my own financial loss, i went and did my part. I gave 3 pints of blood, put together boxes and boxes of canned gods and over the counter medical supplies together, cases of water, and gave them to the PD that picked it all up. I was effected by 9/11... if you werent, feal lucky. I could really care less about the state of Louisiana. Ive never been there, dont ever plan to go there, dont know anyone that lives there. If a group wants to get together and trek down there to help rebuild a church or something, even being an athiest, id do it. Ill volunteer my time, sweat, and blood all day long for someone who truely needs it... but my money stays in my pocket.
  3. while im not as prude as others.... I dont really feal all that bad either. There was a lot of things that could have and SHOULD have happened DAYS before it ever hit. I was watching the O'Reily Factor this morning (dunno if anyone else saw it), but they were basically saying that neiter the Mayor of New Orleans, nor the Governer of Louisiana did anything to declare a state of emergancy JUST IN CASE of a worst case scenario... waht happend.... worst case scenario. Noone was in place, noone had communications, noone had any relief anywhere. As for the people, they knew 3 days ahead of time that this monster was coming. Even if you took 1 day to pack up the bare esentials, that left you 48hrs to get out of the state before all hell broke loose... how many actully did that? Less than 3% actully followed the 3 day evacuation plan. Less than 12% followed the 2 day evacuation plan. Less than 20% made it out with less than 24hrs to go, and when it hit, everyone acted like they had no idea it was coming. IMO, if you dont have a plan for evacuting yourself and or family or dont know the one the STATE YOU LIVE IN WRITES OUT FOR YOU, and you lose everything you have... its your own damn fault. I dont want to see these people suffer either, and actully had half a mind to load my car up with bottled water along with an army of 32 other vehicals i had set up, drive down and help out where ever i could.... but realisticaly, how far does a couple thousand bottles of water go??? A couple hours??? Half a day at best??? I say just let the RedCross help who they can, and let the Military do what theyre doing about the Levi's, and let the state move forward. When New York got hit, the state pulled together and recovered quickly. When Louisiana got hit... people went into a free forall looting spree, physicaly assulted people, shot at the people trying to help them, and are now trying to say the government is being racist. This whole disaster... is a disaster. 2 big things and a lot of stupid people made this the terrible issue that it is.
  4. Ran across this one... dunno if its a repost but i laughed for a minute. http://diemotherfucker.ytmnd.com/
  5. ultimately if you like it, you did a pretty good job of doing something a little different than most people do. I personaly am not too fond of it... but what the hell do i know, i drive a Volvo.
  6. heres what i dont get... how does one spool a "very large" turbo up to 60ish inHG, on a 2.0L engine so quickly??? There are only two things i can think of that would makethat happen... nitrous, or a tunnel ram. (60inHG + N2O) (any car) = fast as all fuck I just dont see how a car could do 65 to 95 in less than 2 seconds and still be road worthy
  7. I could see one way that it could be justified... but only 2 cops doing it would never be that way. If a whole force of cops ransacked a Walmart for all its cloths, shoes, and non parishable food items... then went to the Dome and starting passing the stuff out, to me thats justified. 2 ladies picking and choosing... looting.
  8. The BP on the corner of Hoover and Stringtown was out a couple days ago, but they have more now. I think a couple stations ran out for a number of hours, but not for days.
  9. I know that this ride is far from new, but i rode it for the first time today. Only 2 words can describe this ride.... IN-SANE. After figuring out that the 0-120 ~ 4seconds is about a mid 6 second 1/4 pass... a Pro-Stock car, i knew i must ride it. I have had the privledge in the past to feal a 9 second pass as a passenger, and even that did not prepare me for the moster i stood 2hrs in line for. It was the only thing i really HAD TO RIDE before i left. Any way, i remember how the pass in the car felt. Instant snap pull right off the line, with a slighty decreasing sensation of G-force. This ride does the exact opposite. It feals like a turbocharger surging really hard, then harder, then harder still, and the fucking thing just keeps pulling harder and harder the faster it goes. So by the time it reached the end of the runway we'll call it, it was doing a buck twenty and pulling 3 or 4 G's. As you go up the incline, the G-Force moves smoothly from pushing your head to the rest, to puting your ass in the seat. Up you go 420ft striat up at over 100mph. If the sensation at that point wasnt enough, a barrel roll will give you some negative G's whilst still traveling upwards at over 80mph. All you see is sky. Over the crest now you go pulling more negative G's and making your way to the most god awful thing you ever see... lots of ground, no track, 2 seats in front of you, and this little yellow lap lock thingy that is in charge of holding you and all your body weight inside the now upside down seat. Again, if thats not enough, they throw in another barrel roll to see if you totaly shit yourself whilst you think about this stupid little bar being the only damn thing holding you in. Down now, you go, 80... 90... 100... 112mph into a smooth transition from totaly weightlessness into 3 or 4 more G's puting foot to ass and making you breifly feal like you weigh about 800lbs. Then come the brakes. Now i was dissapointed with this part belive it or not. I was expecting a soft free roll to a harsh snap likea chute, then a gradual stop. Well, the snap just wasnt there. Oddly though, i didnt realize it untill after i got off the ride that it hadnt happened. Thats the most ridiculous part of this ride... it goes so fucking fast, your brain cant process exactly was has happend to you untill its already long over.... in other words, you can NEVER prepare youself. This ride was the only ride that actully: - Left me gasping for every bit of air i could get after it was over. - Triple my heart rate in under 15 seconds. - Make me think twice about riding it again. Its actully that overwhelming. You almost have to have a good 5 min stretch and yoga session to cope with the total sensationalistic overload your about put yourself in.... gawd it was fucking great IF YOU HAVENT DONE IT, DO IT!
  10. thats tough... i got really focken close w/ 13seconds left and busted
  11. did you totaly lose control of your fingers there? Yea he said, "And im betting he wished he hadnt come out today because he just got beat by a Honda"... at that point i was ready to make a trip up to the booth and perform a text book hostal take over... but i decided to run 15's all day instead
  12. He said the F50 was pretty much a waste too... Its all about reality and form following function.
  13. He lost to a damn Civic his first run at Neo-Fest. Then the anouncer started cracking jokes. I wanted to go jack him one in the teeth. Not to take anything away from Sam (if i may call you by first name), but he did run a 11.81 i think it was and the Civic was about 11.60ish if i remeber right. Either way, it was a legit fast Honda. Kind of a shitty way to start out the day i guess. On the other hand, i got paired up with a Viper that ran a 10.60 whilst i cruised across with a blistering 15.75...
  14. Great video. Clarkson is always biased towards form following function. Having a 2wd truck with 380hp and hardly any weight over the rear wheels really doesnt make a whole hell of a lot of sence. Sure its got its perks but overall, its just not a suitable vehical for European culture. I agree with Brian... its another American car thats good for two things... heavy drinking, and making lots of noise. With the exceptions of the Z06, Viper, and the Ford GT, not much has really come out of america that the rest of the world cares about.
  15. the "Z" 's look like ass.... "UBERCHARGED"
  16. The concept Solstice was to have a super charged 2.4L Eco with 245hp w/ a 6spd and weigh only 2200 lbs. Instead, its a joke NA Eco, with a 5spd, all kinds of crap in it and weighs in 2860lbs. As i said, it went from a mini Viper like thingy, to a Pontiac Miata.
  17. be careful with the bagetts on that ring. They seem to get knocked loose pretty easily. Id make sure you have it checked every couple months. Also, if one of the round cuts ever come loose, invest in 6 prong settings if possible on that band. It really is a nice piece. I used to be a daimond consultant when i was in highschool... appreciation for a nicely put together ring never goes away
  18. You should go to your local Junior High School and see if you can train with the XC team... they used to run 2.1 miles races back in the late 96/97 when i did it. Maybe thatll help???
  19. i remember the days when i was doing the 10K's in 42-45min... then i turned 21 and discovered beer.... OWNED
