96 and up OBDII cars will throw codes when you remove the cats. there's extra 02 sensors after the cats you have to worry about...

the FR300 had a turbo 4 iirc. different car...

how about a 2nd gen, non turbo RX-7? i've seen WELL used (but driveable) cars go for as little as $250, and the non turbo engines run forever. they're RWD and handle great... you might also look at an early 240SX or MR2. whatever you decide on, a $1000 car is going to need A LOT of TLC. best of luck... smile.gif
