Well guys,
I've got a bud who wanted to turbo his truck for shits and giggles. He had a T3/T4 with a 60mm trim wheel and .80ish A/R on the compressor side, dont know the the exhaust side, but its probably the most common found on that trim.
The truck is a 99 2.2 s10.
Heres the deal.
When we start it,it will start and rev at ~2,000RPM. The turbo is blowing air like crazy. It revs high with the turbo not plumbed into the intake track, and with it. Now, what we found out is that if we cover the throttle body plate with our hand, the idle will drop down.
The Exhaust manifold gets reallllly hot and the primary O2 is reading constantly in the double digit mVs, untill you get on the gas and rev it until 3,000rpm or so, and then the bounce around in the hundreds Mvs.
So it seems when we restict the air coming in, the truck wants to run normally. We tried checking for vacumn leaks and found nothing. We have yet to test for fuel pressure, but everything in the truck is the same. Same pump, same injectors, same regulator.
The turbo seems to be blowing alot of air for being at idle! The wastegate is suppose to be closed at idle correct?
Any ideas?
Thanks guys!
Nathan
P.S. All the sensors are working correctly. The truck wants to go into closed loop, but will only give 6 degrees of timing!!!
Only DTC is throwing is a high idle.
