Michigan should be 12-1 or 11-2 every year. They should lose to Ohio State every year and occasionally lose to some other good B10 team, like Michigan State or Penn State (when they are back to being good).

There was nothing the defense could have done in that game, the way I remember it. Rather, they just kept throwing the ball up in the air and Plaxico kept coming down with it. No real way of defending that sort of shit. That being conceded, the MSU game is still a black mark on Germaine's resume for me. I hadn't thought of Krenzel, but, you know what, I think you might be on to something. He won all of his bowl games, IIRC (2002 NC, 2003 Fiesta where we beat Kansas State) and he was undefeated against Michigan (right?). The only big game I can remember him losing was the night game at Wisconsin in 2003 that ended our win streak (and that was a close game and I can't really fault us for losing it).

I wouldn't. Don't get me wrong, I heart Joe Germaine, but I wouldn't call him clutch. He only beat Michigan once, IIRC. I think he got his ass handed to him by Florida State in the 98 Sugar Bowl (which was played after the 1997 season). Then there's the 1998 Michigan State game - losing that game is pretty much the nail in the coffin for me. Yes, the win over Arizona State in the Rose Bowl is one of my fondest memories of Ohio State. Perhaps second only to the NC game against Miami. However, beyond that, I can't remember him coming up big in a big game. There was the win against Texas AM in the bowl game (Sugar, I think?) after the 1998 season, but that doesn't come to mind as a "big" game. And, even if I conceded that it was, I still point to that Michigan State game in 1998. Am I forgetting something? (Honest question.)

Same here. It would be Smith if not for the fiasco in the desert. I always thought Pryor was pretty clutch. I was watching his Ohio State highlights last night on YouTube: I forgot just how awful of a passer he was and just how outrageously awesome as a runner he was.

Nope, I think he'll do fine. Yeah, he was rattled during the VT game. But Tom Brady would have been too given how porous our line was that game. The Penn State game was pressured packed, not to mention the Michigan State game. Hell, the Minnesota game had upset written all over it, and all he did was go out and break a bunch of records. No, I am just fine with him being my QB going into a big game.

LOL, I'm right there with you: Florida State has become Troll State University. Everyone not living in Tallahassee hates them. They fuck around, flop around early in games, look retarded, then manage to pull out a victory. Then Jameis goes full heel and shushes everyone, giving apparently zero point zero fucks that he's in the limelight and the reigning Heisman winner. Jameis makes Johnny Manziel look like Barry Sanders in terms of douchebaggery. As for Baylor getting disrespected, yeah, if I'm them I'm beyond pissed. However, what I think the committee is doing is biding their time hoping that TCU helps them out and loses before the final week. If they do, great, no more controversy. If, however, TCU manages to not lose, and Baylor remains undefeated, then I don't think it would be that dramatic to put Baylor over TCU in the final rankings. TCU would of course cry foul - "But we were ranked higher for X many weeks and didn't lose!" - but the committee would have finality on their side. They could offer this rationale: "We wanted to see the season play out. We felt that for several weeks TCU was playing better than Baylor, and thus ranked them accordingly. However, as the season played on, Baylor closed that gap (see TCU's lackluster performance at Kansas as an example). At the season's end, we had two teams that were pretty much even across the board in how they were playing, etc. So, we had to move on to other criteria to determine their ranking, and that's when the head-to-head matchup factored in. Since Baylor won head-to-head, and all other things ended up being pretty much equal, we had to give Baylor the nod in the rankings."

Then we'd have a nightmare scenario in which three SEC teams would be in a position to make the playoffs: Alabama, Miss State (if they beat Ole Miss), and Georgia. Georgia has already started that climb. They'll be back in the top 10 in the rankings (even though they don't belong anywhere close to there). By the time they take care of Georgia Tech (OMG ANOTHER RANKED TEAM!), then Georgia will be nestled right around #7 or so. Alabama will continue to dominate, smoking Auburn (OMG LOOK THEY JUST KILLED ANOTHER SEC TEAM FLAWLESS FATALITY!), so if Georgia and Alabama meet, you'll have the classic "these are just really two good teams battling it out" argument for the SEC title game. Georgia beats them in CG game, but because we've been sucking off Alabama for the past month, they'll stick around at #4, Georgia gets vaulted up, and meanwhile stupid fucking Miss State will be hanging around because in the interim they've managed to beat Vanderbilt (read: Groveport Madison) and what we now know is a highly overrated Ole Miss team in the Egg Bowl. Doomsday Scenario Achievement Unlocked.

I agree with all of this. I was just saying yesterday that those 4 teams in the first playoff would be a dream scenario for the stakeholders.

Seems reasonable to me. Though, I'm not sure how I feel about Oregon inheriting the top spot with a bye. I'm convinced that Miss State gets parked in front of Ohio State, though.

As a Buckeyes' fan, I hope the committee takes the weather into consideration when determining the merits of Ohio State performance. As someone knowledgeable about college football, I would think that any rational person on a committee that determines the merits of a team's performance would take the weather and conditions of the game into consideration when making an assessment of the team's performance. While a blowout by Ohio State was "needed," any rational observer would conclude that the weather of the game in Minnesota reliably prevented any blowout from occurring. Thus, while a blowout was "needed," it could be concluded that a blowout was not possible. Ironically, I've noticed that you've chided others for wearing Ohio State-tinged glasses, but the way you keep talking about how weather doesn't matter makes me think you're the one wearing blinders. PS - I know a lot what you do is just to troll (and I'm fine with that, BTW), but I'm offering this latest post with the assumption that we're having a logical discussion about this stuff.

Yes he is and it's a valid argument. And if you're trying to act like weather can't alter the outcome of a game then you're an idiot. I'd be careful here - the SEC's reluctance to travel out of the South is one of the only very real criticisms that can be tossed at it. So when someone says "hey I'd like to see Alabama play in shitty winter weather" Bama fans really have no retort.

How the fuck Georgia could ever sniff the top 10 after being decimated by a Florida team that just fired their coach is beyond me. Oh, wait, #SEC. I fear I'm going to be right and Miss State is going to get parked a couple of spots in front of Ohio State in the CFP. And both the B12 teams will be too.

BTW, is anyone else annoyed when people point to FSU's undefeated record from last year as some criterion for their worthiness this season? I see this all the time, "Well, until Florida State loses I have to rank them #X, blah blah blah." What does last year have to do with this year? It would be like saying, "Well, since Ohio State has a lot of Heisman winners, you really have to put JT Barrett at the top of the Heisman list this year." It's a faulty kind of reasoning that annoys me. PS - yes, I'm annoyed when the media points out how Ohio State has won X amount of conferences games in a row. It starts to sound really forced: "Ohio State is undefeated when playing teams from the Big 10 that begin with 'I,' are missing their starting left tackle, and when the game is played outdoors."

FSU is not impressive. The SEC is a mess. LOL @ auburn, LSU, and Texas AM. All ranked teams that lost to lesser ranked/unranked teams. I fear absolutely zero SEC teams. Alabama might concern me, but beyond that Ohio State hangs half a hundred on them. And bonus LOL @ Notre Dame. And FSU barely beat them - at home.

If bama wins, then they need to win by like 40. That way - like Josh said - they will be perceived as overrated. My fear is that Miss St loses but only falls to like one spot in front of Ohio State.
