"We try to be objective, but we can appreciate the fact that we might sometimes give preferential treatment to some of those entities with whom we share common interests, like the SEC. To try and act as though there isn't some bias would be insulting to everyone with common sense. Another thing I agree with Josh on: this poll is set up a lot like the traditional polls, insofar as it basically guarantees a few SEC teams to be hovering around the top at all times. In my opinion, there is a MASSIVE problem with releasing a poll at this point and then every week hereafter until you have the final poll. The reason why is because the committee has basically just painted themselves into a sort of corner. Psychologically, they've just wedded themselves to teams being in certain spots. For example, come next week, do you think we can expect there to be a major shakeup in the rankings or the rankings to kind of look like they do now? It's the latter, of course. Why? Because, well, if all of a sudden the polls had Marshall, Louisville, Arizona, and Arkansas in the top 4, we'd all shit bricks and be like, "What the fuck committee, why are you crazy?" The committee will have to now maintain some semblance of "consistency," which essentially entitles the teams toward the top a much greater chance of winning the national championship than teams toward the bottom. It's the same fundamental flaw with polls in general, and something I've been ranting about for years. Polls are a popularity contest and inherently subjective, and a popularity contest or anything subjective should never be used to crown a champion in a sporting competition.

TCU is 6 spots higher than the Baylor team they lost to just a couple of weeks ago. Both teams have 1 loss. Both losses were in conference and on road. And the committee says head to head match ups matter...

Playoff poll out: miss state, Florida state, auburn, and ole miss in top 4. Yes same ole miss that just lost last week to a crappy LSU team. Ohio State is 16 in the poll. LOL - We won't sniff the top 4. Seems clear the committee is riding the SEC's nuts, too.

Just checked Suh's stats - in 2009 (when he placed 4th in Heisman voting), he had 12 sacks and 20.5 TFL. So, I guess Bosa is on pace to have that kind of year. Also, I'm not so delusional to think that Bosa would ever win the Heisman. However, I also think the Heisman voting is flawed, so what do I know.

Should Bosa be in consideration for the Heisman? I haven't looked at the stats, but how does he stack up with Suh? The reason why I ask is because his Penn State game was capped with a "Heisman moment." I don't watch ESPN et al. all that much anymore - has the highlight been getting a lot of play? It should be.

Same here - Alabama will deserve to be in playoff if they win out (despite the fact that LSU's ranking will again be bloated).

I'd place a massive premium on being able to work from home 100% of the time. You can stay up late, sleep in, not have to fuck with rushing around in the morning, not have to worry about rush hour traffic, save on gas, save mileage and wear/tear on your vehicle, do you work naked/in your boxer-briefs/PJs/whatever, have flexibility of doing your job whenever you want, not have to deal with stupid coworkers, avoid lame meetings in the office, and so on. I'd place a premium on family, but how much of premium would depend on a few things. Do I really like my family or just kind of like them? Do I only like them a lot because I don't get to see them all the time? Realistically, will I see them considerably more because I live closer to them? (I remember having a really good friend who visited me when I lived in Kentucky more times than when we lived in the same apartment complex here on the SE side.) Do I have kids - or expect to have kids - so that I can have family around to assist me in childcare? Answers to these questions would dictate how much of a premium I place on moving closer to family. How much do you want to advance your career? A lot? Then Option A gets more points. However, if you're just okay with advancing, but also okay not advancing, then Option A doesn't get those bonus points. Ocean or mountains? Ocean = B, mountains = A Humidity or dry heat? Humidity = B, dry heat = A For the record, I've been to both Myrtle Beach and Las Vegas in the middle of the summer. Myrtle Beach was great - comfortable, breeze from the ocean, occasional afternoon thunderstorm, but all around very livable. Las Vegas in August? Fucking kill yourself. "But it's a dry heat," they say. Yeah, so is a fucking oven. Seriously, I thought I misheard the Las Vegas weatherman one morning when he said it was going to get to 117. Nope, 117. It was unbearable to even be outside, let alone do anything outside. You chose Option A, you get to take your happy ass out in that desert heat several months of the year as you commute to and from your job. ESPN might have an agenda, which is to get Ohio State into the playoff. Teams like Ohio State bring lots of eyeballs, and lots of eyeballs means lots of money. (I think a few other guys have been saying this as well - Zach, maybe?) I heard recently on talk radio how the 4 teams in the playoff won't really matter for ratings. Bullshit, they matter. Just ask the Orange Bowl. I guarantee you more people tune in to see Alabama vs. Ohio State in the first round of the playoffs as opposed to Baylor vs. Ole Miss.

Congrats to everyone who ran. We live about a half-block from the 24 mile mark and went down and cheered people on for a while. There was a DJ set up there playing music - it was kind of cool. It was impressive how some people were running so fast and yet looked completely unfazed despite the fact that they had been running for 24 MILES by that point. Much respect.
