That's something that's been argued over for forever in the SCCA. The reason they allow them is to drastically lower the tire choices for competitive purposes because with street tires there are tons of tires and they change every year. With R comps there are currently only 2 competitive choices and the tires both seem to be near equally fast(I'm sure Rich G. could go into even more details about all this, or correct me if I'm wrong). Even with these tires though rollovers are still very rare. Thorne, I would start with a 4-point rollbar that is designed so that it can be added onto later if need be, this way you can at least run harnesses properly.

I hated the fact yesterday because I decided to vote on the Democratic primary that I could only vote for Democrats in all things, there were actually a couple people I wanted to vote for for some offices that I couldn't and that's just shitty. I believe some states let you do this when your unaffiliated with a party like myself.

I used to avoid this stuff like the plague, but it's important to us all and I always want to try and make at least a semi-informed opinion on it so I try and follow it somewhat. This split on the democratic side may not be good in the long run for them but who knows. I think if Clinton wins the democratic side McCain will win president but if Obama wins the nod them it could be close in November. Just my guess though and I'm no expert on this stuff at all.

I figured it to be a smart move for the Republicans to vote for Clinton since McCain had his side locked up, I think McCain has a better chance of beating her for president than Obama. I voted for Obama, they all have things I don't like about them but I think he's the least of all evil. McCain was saying somehting like we may be in Iraq for 100 years?? Are you fucking kidding me? At some point you have to let them go on their own, it would be like spoon feeding your kid until they were 18. Wether they plunge into a kind of civil war or whatever there's always going to be that risk.

Yup, a Mini Cooper flipped in Toledo this past summer and I've seen video of a bmw on 2 wheels up quite high as well and I've heard about a car locally flipping over years ago, it does happen though it's very rare.

Thorne, if you want some attention though a cage will do the trick.

Safety equipment will almost never move you up in a class in most racing series except autocross somewhat. Hell, virtually all road racing series have "stock" or "Spec" classes that use essentially unmodified cars but with a full compliment of safety systems like a cage, fire surpression, etc....

My car traps 87mph but it has a cage, cages aren't just for drag cars. Thorne, I wouldn't do it unless you plan on making it a really serious race car. Are you planning on a full cage?? or just a 4 point? With the 4 it's all behind you anyway but still illegal to have on the road I've read and wearing a helmet will only draw more attention.

Wow, thread resurrection!! Another FC?? Didn't know you had one to begin with!! Those have been on my watch list for this season but it looks more and more like the Laser may be back out, but we'll see.

If it were a turbo car it would have been gone in a day, but it's not, and thus I still have it. Unless I sell the Pathfinder and find the car I'm looking for the Laser will be back out for track duty this summer. Almost 40* already right now!!

Scott, you'd be surprised at how well almost 200hp will motivate that car. There's also a balance factor in there and the powerband of that engine suits a car like that well.
