Some here are not, but I'm a 5th3rd fan. They've always treated us well and have a fair number of locations.

Comparison of all three shot at f/4. Good cheap lens to play with and have for the money, but if you're going to have a shallow DOF with some catchlights around you or on a sunny day, the details will show on portraits. These were shot on a 5DMKII at f/4 to show more closely what a crop body will portray wide open. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145353163/original.jpg

No question then, 85mm f/1.8 Perfect lens for tight portraits and has excellent bokeh characteristics along with USM focusing. Expect to pay about $380. If their recommending the 50mm for portraits they must be talking the f/1.2 or else they don't know good bokeh (however that is a pricey one). Really, the 1.8 is a decent lens for what it is, but I'd spend any additional money left on a good flash and diffusor/softbox. The kit lens will work for the little one until he's playing sports.

Here's a testament to it's reach. Full digital zoom which I normally don't like but this camera does well. It's in camera processing not only outputs a clean image but accounts for exposure too. I blew the highlights on this one a bit but it was just me playing around. This 3,360mm example is hand held at 1/125th too! That's unheard of at that zoom factor. Even my $12k 800mm couldn't' do that. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145347547/original.jpg

I remember when the discussions resulted in controversy. No doubt it's a palace inside including the offices. Financially OSU is doing just fine if they can afford to build this. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145346158/original.jpg

haha! everyone has one of those. we break ours out for the kids now and then. think it was a wedding gift or something.

The 40mm is new lens and I've never used it. Early on it was experiencing problems and while Canon says they have a firmware fix, I don't see it and wouldn't trust it. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras?pageKeyCode=prdAdvDetail&docId=0901e02480602860 In terms of the nifty 50, it's a good lens for the money but the reality is also something you need to acknowledge. The bokeh is meh...not impressive. The focal length will likely be a bit long for her on a crop body camera. The current MKII versions are all plastic and the build quailty is again, meh. It's also exhibits inconsistant focusing when wide open at f/1.8 resulting in slight front or back focusing at wide open apertures. If your camera doesn't have MicroFocus Adjustments (which I don't think Rebels do) it could be an issue. Lastly, the focus is slow, so as long as the little one isn't walking yet, you're fine. It won't shoot more than 3 frames per second also. Those may not aren't deal breakers, but if it's her only lens, I would advise against it. If budget is an issue go with the EF-S 18-55mm make sure it's the MKII (second generation) unit. $180-$200 If budget is still a concern but you can go a little higher and want a much more versitle lens, go with the EF-S 18-200 for about $585. Well worth it if you're going to have just one. Lastly, if she's looking for a small prime and set on that, go with the 35mm F/2. Can't be beat for sharpness. It's effective focal length on that camera is 50mm which is great, it's a bright lens with an f/2 rating and the optics are solid. The downside like the 50mm above is that it's not USM which means you'll hear it focus and it's not a speed demon in terms of chasing running kids and will be limited to 3fps speed. Otherwise, it's a keeper and if I had just one, that would be it. Hope my rambling helps. FWIW, I own the 50mm and 35mm and shoot with them regularly. I don't own the 18-200 but have shot with it quite a bit. I'd own it if I had to have just one to cover wide to mid ranges.

WOW! 20' closer would have really made that an interesting trip. I love the whaling trips we've made off Vancouver over the years. August is a great time to head up there. Weather is perfect. Next year is our year. Can't wait. Kids are going to love it.

:lolguy: This remake is just further proof the 80's can't ever be repeated. Damn I miss growing up then........

Let me clarify., the level to which this new guy and even other newbs fuck up by simply not posting pics immediately at the same times as their intro pails in comparison to the many ways others here fuck up and fail once they are on board. It doesn't take 14 people slamming them over not having pics. Yes, I've made said comments too, but it's not often if at all once 1-2 others have said it.

N. Korea? Really? Can they even successfully fly a plane outside their country?

if I got a nickle for every person I don't know that for some odd reason wants to follow me, especially considering I never use it and when I did it was through Linked In by accident, I'd be a rich man. Hell, I don't even see my account being worth $5

^^ they can try but I very highly doubt the would win anything unless the store owner broke the law or was excessive in his actions stopping the robbers. If someone breaks into your home and shoot and paralyze them but not kill them, so long as you didn't do anything excessive like walk over and break his back after you shot him to the point where they were no longer a threat, you don't have much to worry about in the way of losing the case. not sure if the castle doctrine applies to where the mentioned incident occurred. here in Ohio even my scenario, no civil suites are allowed. Anything is possible, but not likely.

That's emotionally what you feel but not what the contract nor law sees. You entered into a relationship where your individual actions and joint decisions together had an impact on the current and future of all parties not just the children. Alimony isn't paid in every situation, but in the OP'ers case, it will very likely be a portion of the next 3-5yrs should they split. Remember, according to what we've heard, they've been married 14yrs, she's a stay at home mom and there's a 14yr old involved. Those are long time decisions made by both parties and just because you split you don't get to forgo the aftermath of decisions you were a part of making regardless of who they impact. You're still responsible in some fashion and for some length of time. Reverse the roles and you'd agree. I used the word team in reference to married couples and in that context it's absolutely not nonsense. Once divorced, while no longer a team, you are both jointly responsible for the welfare of any children, unless a court orders otherwise. you didn't pick up her slack, you did what was needed and in the best interest of the household while your partner/team-mate was carrying your child.

because the level of fuck up in his intro as much as everyone would like to believe pails in comparison to many of the fails that occur from members who are already on board. Sometimes even senior ones. in the grand scheme his inventory of cars if true > most pissing on his thread. my last thought is the fact that he's fucking up or rustling jimmies of people here tells me he might just fit in. this is me posting. don't let me down new guy........

Mixed feelings on this one really. I do see the comparison and if true, it's cool the volvo can take the drive so well. However, as Rocky said, I'm not sure such a crazy ass manuver is really called for....but it does and can happen. I don't want to know what our fully loaded minivan would do. It wouldn't be pretty though..... Hey, at least it didn't tip over.....
