Saw this one on the way to work today up on the NW Side. He was headed down Linworth Rd. towards Worthington. Sounded great. Member here? http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/1ac7e51641d0aa4997968a72d6efc821.jpg

Are you Jelly? (Handful of Aquarium Pics)

We have and I agree it is nice. Honestly though, I still think Newport is great and while Atlanta is cool, factoring in the 8hr drive puts Newport ahead IMO. -

Been there several times, but these were from our Gatlinburg, TN Trip. It's pretty nice. Slightly smaller but on the same level as Newport. I actually like Newport better. Chicago is good too. -

Another great method of background replacement doesn't involve masking at all. In fact it involves just a very good blending technique that a long time friend and fellow photographer has outlined in an set of actions he has created and offered for free. Chip Springer is the creator and his technique is called InstaMask. He has created a series of this same technique, one to work on white backgrounds, one for grey and one for black. The idea is you use the one that best shows off your subject. Light hair on black, dark hair on white and the rest on grey. I typically shoot against a white backdrop as it's just plain too easy to add backgrounds to them. Here's a recent example using an image from another photographer friend of mine who also enjoys digital editing; Ronny Harris. Standard White Background: Notice the lighting was not ideal. That's okay. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145495570/original.jpg Follow along Chips step by step actions and instructions which will call for you to select a new backdrop. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145495571/original.jpg Lastly, it's time to correct the lighting and add a bit of digital photography lighting. Notice, it's all about the eyes and creating realistic and interesting catch lights. Without the reflection your subject appears dead. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145495572/original.jpg Here too, the devil is in the details; and those details are present. Here's a 100% crop from the larger/full size image with a slightly different background applied. Notice the fine hairs still present and captured with detail. This level would be difficult with a masking technique. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145377380/original.jpg

I get a lot of questions on what is the best way to replace backgrounds. The answer remains that there is no one single best way as the methods vary with the image. In many cases however, several ways can be used to get to the same results which is an effective and detailed layer mask. A layer mask is much like what you would imagine in say painting a room. It's like masking off the areas you don't want to paint or in this case, change leaving the unmasked area for editing. A layer mask is created by either by drawing white on a black background or black on white background high contrast image. The best thing to do is practice and master each method and learn which applies when. Here's one example I thought I would share. Perhaps over time I'll elaborate on the others too. Photoshop CS5: The Key is to have the following layers: Layer Mask (Where you deleted the blue) thus allowing the pink to show through New Background (Pink) Background (original image) Original Image: http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145466273/original.jpg Step 1: Open the image in Photoshop and use the Calculations command (Red and inverted Blue channels with Color Dodge blend mode) to create an alpha channel. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145495127/original.jpg Step 2: Load the alpha channel as a selection then used the Refine Edge function to fine tune the selection, especially address the blue color bleed and edge contamination. Saved as a New Layer with mask which automatically knocked out the old blue background. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145494712/original.jpg Note the amount of detail retained fabric fibers retained by this method. That's a 200% enlargement shown. I know I kept it brief and went quick but feel free to post questions or PM me if you're stuck.

Just as a follow up because I have received several PM's, if you have a spouse and child on welfare, the state will deduct the costs of covering their medicaid from her payments. If you don't make those payments the state will come after you and your bank accounts.

I didn't read the entire article outside a quick skim, but I thought the word was GM Had a good year? In terms of offering, I think Mike hit it solid when he said the average American can barely afford a new car that's not a cheap entry level one. It's rediculous. Even in our family where we can afford cars from their entire lineup, I wouldn't spend that much on them. It's a fucking car already... The Malibu name needs to go. My parents bought an LTZ version several years ago and I associate it with 80yr old people looking for basic yet decent inside, transportation. It has very little if any style and the again, ditch the name. Not the same car, but when VW came out with the CC it was the first VW I looked at said I like it and would own it. Looked at one for my company car but it's priced way too high IMO. Nice car, but again, fully loaded, not of value to me. I wish GM all the luck in the world, and only hope they can figure out how to produce some nice cars for a far better value. The new Cruze is a nice car and I've driven them. I wouldn't own one at this point in my life, but if I was just starting out, it would again, be decent. Still needs a little more of style factor IMO but it works and is IMO the best entry level one I've seen from them in years. -
I'll crawl my arse out of bed if today goes well. Wife and kids are heading to Amish Country and I've decided to pass.

No 100% answer as a lot lies in the details and the court. A good attorney goes a long way. Not enough information really. Again all the factors I listed will play into alimony and there's a similar list for child support. Joint income has a lot to do with both. In the above, there's a reason mom lost custody, so that will play in. Earning potential is there but she's been out of work for 4 years, so there's going to be a ramp up time. Courts aren't going to expect her to go get a job and be 100% right away. In terms of child support, yet there will be some for dad. That issue will be revisited once mom is established in the work force.

Factors the legal systems looks at when determining alimony. Like I said about child support, there are a number of them. The actual need and ability of the parties to pay; The duration of the marriage or civil union; The age, physical and emotional health of the parties; The standard of living established in the marriage or civil union and the likelihood that each party can maintain a reasonably comparable standard of living; The earning capacities, educational levels, vocational skills, and employability of the parties; The length of absence from the job market of the party seeking maintenance; The parental responsibilities for the children; The time and expense necessary to acquire sufficient education or training to enable the party seeking maintenance to find appropriate employment, the availability of the training and employment, and the opportunity for future acquisitions of capital assets and income; The history of the financial or non-financial contributions to the marriage or civil union by each party including contributions to the care and education of the children and interruption of personal careers or educational opportunities; The equitable distribution of property ordered and any payouts on equitable distribution, directly or indirectly, out of current income, to the extent this consideration is reasonable, just and fair; The income available to either party through investment of any assets held by that party; The tax treatment and consequences to both parties of any alimony award, including the designation of all or a portion of the payment as a non-taxable payment; and Any other factors which the court may deem relevant.

It's not bullshit. The purpose of alimony is to avoid an unfair situation that would likely occur even after property is divided and child support is granted. The courts have broad discretion to decide what is fair in each case, there's no black and white calculator. Here's an example: Take a husband and wife who were married 10 years before splitting. At the time of the divorce, the husband earns $63,000 a year, after seven years at a large company where the top pay for his specialty is $80,000. When the couple married, he was in graduate school and the wife was earning $22,000. The wife worked for three more years, supporting the husband while he completed his coursework and graduated. When their first child was born, they agreed that the wife would care for the child at home. At the time of divorce, the wife had been working full-time for one year since the couple's children, ages seven and six, had entered school. She was earning $23,000 a year and was granted custody of the children. A judge in this case would certainly award child support and would probably divide marital property equally between the couple. But it might not seem fair to the judge to allow the husband to leave the marriage with the sole possession of the couple's most valuable asset—his earning potential. When the wife contributed to his education by supporting him. Unlike the family's home or station wagon, the husband's earning power has not yet reached its full value, but it promises to grow. It seems especially unfair for the wife not to receive a share of it since after helping the husband attain his education she agreed to forfeit her earning power to invest time in the family. The several years she spent out of the workforce continue to handicap her earnings. Alimony is the only means available to the court to avoid a such an unjust division of assets. Reverse the shoes and you would see my point. So back OT to the OP'er. They have 14yrs of marriage and the wife is a stay at home mom, and all of the choices during that time affect both people. He's not going to be able to split up and dump her to fend for herself after that many years out of the work force while his work force world continued on.

Interesting review. I've driven a 370z and agree with him. Haven't driven a BRZ but his points about how it's tail slides out just a bit but not too much, etc. make me wonder if the one that wrecked up at Mid Ohio....did that guy even drive his car to the limits on dry road?
