  1. What I've seen of it including Jones' phone at C&C and others....yes.....and I'm not an Android fan. It's nice. Feather weight.
  2. ...and bust your own nuts weekly.
  3. True, but even Prenups aren't bullet proof. Judges often exercise an oversight responsibility over all matrimonial cases. What a good lawyer and prenup will do is enhance your chances that the prenup will be enforced but that doesn't mean it won't cost you to defend it.
  4. because it's a binding contract and is protected under law. you get tons of breaks in taxes and in different ways too. just the same you will held to the laws of a contract when it's dissolved. Nope....I just understand the legal side of it all fairly well since I lived through my wife's schooling and years of owning her own family law and bankruptcy practice. As a husband and father and as a third party fly on the wall to many cases I can also empathize with all three sides of such cases too. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145241729/original.jpg
  5. Getting half of his 401k isn't part of the raping....she's entitled to it just as she was when they were married. It's part of their joint assets earned while married. That doesn't change when you get divorced. No different than if you were 50/50 in a business with another person. Any earnings and growth during that business venture are joint. Marriage is a contract...a business contract. Same with raising kids. Mothers and Fathers have a responsibility to pay for the kids and support them until they are 18 whether they are married or not. I'm even more for child support as the kids are the ones who suffer if a parent doesn't pay. That's why in cases with children courts usually appoint a guardian ad litem. They are there to take legal action on behalf of a minor who isn't often represented in a divorce. If it kills you you thinking about it, think about how their kid feels.....do that for a minute and I bet that's the only minute that kid got.
  6. Cuts both ways bro. My wife practiced for 18 years and it was about 60/40 that the husband earned more. lots of times they don't. Besides, what makes you think the husband is the only one that gets bent over? When last I checked, the wife gets her life tossed in the trash too you know. Even more so when she's left to collect allimony through the courts from an ex who fights kicking and screaming against the law and commitments they once held to vs his situation where there's often a paycheck coming in. Being a stay at home wife sucks IMO dude. More power to my wife because there's no fucking way I could do it. Neither keeps the same lifestyle. That's life when getting divorced. Each side loses. Worse when kids are involved because in 99% of contested divorces more often than I can believe, the kids are who get fucked because the parents turn into children.
  7. Not horseshit. Together married they earned $140k. Again, just because the marriage is over doesn't mean she's now off to live off just $50k. Life together is based off income and debts together and thus during divorce that same standard is held. The law won't allow you to earn less than your potential. You can change your personal aspirations and live as a bum, but you still need to pay up. Lose your job or not, you will owe the money and a good lawyer will get the judgement. Believe me, my wife closed up shop but still has 9 divorces that could go on for years still. Lots do. Those poor bastards should just pay up and move on. Instead they will pay up to both their ex wife and my current wife to which I won't complain. Heck, she just had one settle while we were on vacation and the court ordered him to pay her fees too. Poor bastard fought for two years and lost twice. :lolguy:
  8. You can't do that. Judges, especially in Ohio will have your ass and you will still owe her the money if it takes the rest of your life to pay it back.
  9. nothing? in this case the couple was married and chose to raise a child and for the past 14 years those decisions were jointly agreed upon. the point being she's a stay at home mom by joint decision so now since there's a divorce, the husband can't just up and leave her to fend without continuing the income level and life that she once had simply because. the obligation to provide the lifestyle she's had for the past 14 years doesn't end just because the marriage does.
  10. You need a lawyer no way around it. Especially given the questions you're asking. Dig deep in terms of child support and alimony if you're wife hasn't worked for a while. You'll essentially walk with half of everything including the debt. Depending on your situation, you'll likely sell the house and split the equity or one will buy the other out. If you need a good referral, I'd be happy to PM you. My wife no longer practices but has several she is dishing out as referrals. Good ones she knows and trusts.
  11. ^^ this. I just watched it again. Bottom line is the dude in the car continued to move even after being yelled at to stop by the officer. Courts won't like the fact that the guy didn't even acknowlege or seem to give a crap that there was a LEO writing him a ticket or positioned in the path of this vehicle but rather just kept going.
  12. so they actually still sell them new built from parts they have in a warehouse?
  13. Yes. There's a SpyderGallery app that's free. Basically you're creating a custom profile from the iPad and applying that correction to your images as viewed throught the SpyderGallery app. which is a color-managed viewer. That's part of what my point is to the OP in that there's more to this than just buying the cheapest tablet out there. There's more to it than having a USB plug on the side of a device or being a fan of Android vs iOS. That said, I don't know what other equipment he/she has or what their workflow is like, but all that needs to be thought out in their business plan. I hope they have one. Bottom line is for me, I'd rather spend $500-$750 which is easily made up and have a fully integrated system that is highly recognized, very stable, well supported and offers a huge avenue of already existing marketing plays to benefit from.
  14. Can't speak to the 7" size analysys but I can say I would much rather have the resolution and size of an iPad 3 to show photos. It allows for larger than 5x7 photos, not quite 8x10 but still very impactfull in front of a client. I also have my units calibrated with the same Spyder3 unit I use at home so they match my monitors and printers. I can assure customers that again like it or not, Apple's Retina Display is not only one of the best but what they are seeing is what the final output is going to be. Apple has built a lot of press around that display and I can easily play off that and deliver those results. Believe me, I run a business behind it and am not just in a fan-boy mode here. The toughest part about a small business that runs on referrals only is that you have to deliver and play off what's already out there. iPads are solid marketing tools that consumers relate to better than any tablet I see out there and the market in photography is a solid player with lots of well integrated products for use on it too. All that does matter.
  15. ^ this. The cop is in the middle of writing you up. Want to have it mailed to you then engage the cop and insure he has all he needs before you act cocky and drive off. IMO, the cop used body language and his position to put the punk in place and to prevent him from moving the car. Said punk thought he was bad ass and above the law and found out that otherwise.
  16. Meh....Android OS may be more popular but IMO I think the general public relates more to the term and seeing iPad much like they do calling soft drinks Coke or Pepsi or tissues Kleenex. I know that nearly 100% of my customers see my iPad they know instantly what it is vs if they saw any of the other various (there are too many) other tablets on the market. They see the device not the OS. An iPad is an iPad, an Android....fuck, there's too many different models to support and for people know them all. I've seen people ask others "is that a tablet?" and then I more frequently see people say "oh...that's an iPad....cool" The OS in terms of ease of use, no way do I want my contract workers seeing an android OS and messing with it. You know as well as anyone if given the chance to mess with a setting people will. Even you said Androids way more ways to customize their OS vs Apple. That's not what we want. (although now we've taken this conversation well beyond what the OP is likely going to do with the device. ) I'm simply saying that with my contract employees and assistants, I don't want complicated or options for them to mess with. iOS is pretty simple and IMO that's why it works so well and has such a large following. In summary, to me having a customer get it and have in an instant "I know what that is I'm using/viewing" take on things is very critical in business. Zero thought is given to the technology when they see an iPad. Customers just know it. If they even remotely have to think about it, it takes away from my making money. Like it or not or believe it or not, there is a coolness factor and sense of comfort when a client sees an iPad vs any number of the other available devices from God knows how many makers. meh....again, USB is old school and just one more thing to carry and potentially lose or misplace. Believe me, photogs have enough crap and I can say from experience, I hate carrying any small items like that. There was just recently a comment from the Olympics about Lens caps and their use / non-use. One of the reasons stems from them being another small items to account for. You're not spending for the sake of spending. Insert iPad vs Other devices argument here. (I chose Apple for my reasons) In the end, my point is the difference in price is near meaningless in the grand scheme. The OP will just have to decide if the iPad vs other device is where they wish to go. I wouldn't at all base it on one single/the initial investment. To the OP, my insight on running this endeavor as a business is to ditch the dirt low budget target now or you're just asking for trouble. Especially if that's all you have right now. Save until you have more. Insert a business plan along with the appropriate business insurance with a workable amount of capital before you go any further. Especially insurance. The potential for a law suite exists on more than one level as it's not just about happy or unhappy customers or stolen/damaged gear. The minute a piece of gear damages something, ruins a moment, someone trips over a cord or something you bring, you're exposed. Does my Gabe meter read full yet? :gabe:
  17. In my case "walk" my ass. Fucking hills down there were tough. Off to go get in shape now......
  18. Thanks man! It was one of the fastest spiders I've seen. Especially givn it's size. The European Hornet was cool too. Do we have those up here? I've never seen one. Big sucker he was.
  19. It does everything he wants and is well worth the investment. Hell, if he can't earn the cost associated with all this back on one shoot, then hang it up now. This isn't a personal investment and thus the delta of dollars spent are small. The iPad 3 will allow for him to: View and sign releases iPads are easy to use and users/customers will recognize them instantly. Also, there's no need to train others who may be using them (Again, I contract out work and most every photog I use takes my gear and has zero issues) There's no need for an SD slot, do it all wirelessly. No need for an HDMI Slot, just buy an HDMI Cable adapter, I do presentations every day using my iPad either wirelessly or via cable where needed. No USB Slot needed, again, wireless is easy, but there are adapters available if that's what you insist on. Refurbished units are available if price is a concern, but again, is this a business or a hobby? If $500 on an iPad and technology is a concern, I would question the business plan. I have 20x that in gear just for my use let alone what I have others using and $500-$1000 isn't anything at all to invest in equipment. Just last week I bought another wide angle lens for a shoot that I have a guy in Cali doing in two weeks and I'm tired of shipping hardware. Costs are all relative to the return you'll have from it. The nice thing about creative work like this is each gig is unique to a point and yet the gear gets used over and over again paying for itself in very short order.
  20. Gotcha. No, in this case and with most all of the shots from our recent vacation, they are straight from camera. The only shots I really ever "process" are due to the fact they are shot in RAW mode whereby you have to process them because the camera doesn't. However, with the SX40, I've been shooting more of a mix of jpegs and RAW and the jpegs don't / haven't required much fuss at all. Here are a couple others straight from camera other than cropping. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145205808/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/145198131/original.jpg If you're looking for creative DOF shots like one would be able to achieve with a DSLR, then you'll have to push the zoom factor on many of the Bridge or P&S and mirrorless cameras, but overall this one and the Panny FZ200 are solid units you might want to look at. Panny has a nicer lens and some other features that make it more attractive, but for me I wanted the reach of 840mm, I like Canon colors and processing and it's consistent with my workflow and honestly, I can work around the other areas when and if needed. Otherwise, Panny is stellar and yes, I'm biased because I worked for them
  21. I saw this last night as Ben and I exchanged some messages. I've just not done it or used it as what I have set up works and is in place. I contract out a decent bit of my shoots to photogs, many of whom use the device and card and equiment I provide and I have very little interest in changing it mid-busy season. I do plan on playing with it a bit more this week as the idea intrigues me. Time just isn't my friend.
  22. No post processing outside a crop and watermark. The colors and noise are all very well done in-camera. Again, I normally shoot RAW and process from there, but the RAW Hack that's applied to this camera won't allow for Scene Modes (pre-programed in camera) shots to be done in RAW so these are jpegs right from the camera. If you're intrested in higher resolution as these are again, just 1024pixels wide, I can provide them. Otherwise, I do find this size on screen indicative as to what you will get from a 5x7 print.
  23. Just a pro-sumer Bridge Camera....the Powershot SX40HS by Canon. I'll be playing with it for a while to push it's limits.
  24. ^^ Only reply in this thread that gets my attention.
