^^ because we all know that's how we all measure the quality of any new vehicle hitting the road. So by your standards the new Mustang and the Camaro and any new car for that matter remains a piece shit until there's a 10yr history on the books? Nice. Someone tell JD Powers they can save their initial findings and the long term reviews that Edmunds and Car & Driver do are meaningless until 250,000 miles later.

Oh really? He so Ben never referenced the interior of the Genesis 3.8 track model? I re quoted the relevant portion of his post below. The beginning portion of his quote referenced that. Perhaps reading fails you. Immediately after that you stated "All this thread needed: Someone who has sat in one and its competition." closed it out with a "Thank You" followed by "PS Equus fail" Now i don't know about your reading comprehension but that tells those of us with a high school English level understanding that your first part of the reply is referencing the first part of his quote ie. Genesis 3.8 track model and that your PS (Post Scriptum (Latin for an additional message after the main body) then referenced the Equus. Perhaps you're like Yoda from Star Wars though and quote things out of order. :dumb: Something like that it must be.

Until then what would work best for everyone concern is to watch re-runs of COPS and you'll quickly realize the best thing to say is NO to searches and that when asked questions say nothing. If any conversations have to be had because of the situation you're in, lawyer up. When I got busted for a high rate of speed the cop made all kinds of comments about WTF and where were you coming from, what are you doing, why this, what that......ah...NO. I just very respectfully asked him if this all means I'm going to be cited and his reply was an enthusiastic "oh yeah" I then handed him my license and said if there's any other demographic information you need let me know and I informed him that now I was going to roll up my window due to the temperature outside. He got my point and during the court hearing where I was there to fight it, those were the only notes he had on the back of his ticket. I walked out with a basic 2pt speed violation. :jerkit:

^^ I'm a believer too. Used it on our Female boxer for years and she really responded very well. Never had issues while on it. Her dosages were nearly on par with mine too. I'm also on it myself after having a pretty severe back injuring nearly 20 years ago. I've even gone off it and after a few weeks the pain and aches, especially in the morning will come back. It takes 2-3 weeks to build up in the system and take effect but I'm a believer.

Sorry about your luck, but I thought I chimed in on the GXP when you were looking to buy this. At least I have in the past since I owned a 2006. Been there done that and loved mine while I had it but dumped it at 16k on the ODO. They are well known to have poor reliability. Check the tranny once she's back up and running. It's just a matter of time and it will start slipping. I didn't believe it but mine was as 16k. Mine was in the shop for the cam shaft sensor during it's first 500 miles. true story. I also replaced the water pump in the time I owned it. Thank God for warranty. Front rotors too. they are prone to cracking. Sad to say but the GXP's aren't long term cars.

Oh yeah. That goofy crap happens to me when I'm not able to sleep and try and fix my insomnia by posting on CR at 1am on Sundays. :dumb:

I'm the biggest cry baby when it comes to losing a pet. This thread puts me on edge just thinking about the two I lost in the last few years. I absolutely see where LJ is coming from too though. Once the quality of life reaches a point where you have to question it, there's perhaps no need to question it as you have your answer. I temper that by also measuring the amount of pain or suffering they are going through though. That to me is the benchmark factor. I wouldn't ever put my pets through the stress of ongoing pain.

First-off, Holy paragraph there Brian! Gabe is going to have a field day with that. My sig now applies to you :gabe: Second, in terms of name calling, you know I wouldn't pull that on you. We were up too late and having way to deep of a conversation for trolls to understand anyway. In terms of profiling and stereotyping, yes, I see where you're coming from and IMO still stand by the fact that stereotyping while not perfect nor by definition could it be, works and is more true than false. I would especially say this in terms of gender and race vs say nationality or place of origin. I mean no doubt you're going to see young males profiled in traffic for racing and reckless behavior way more so than middle aged soccer moms. You can't dismiss race either. When I see a mid 90's purple mustang with flames on it with 6 Mexicans inside going the speed limit exactly, it's not likely because they give a shit about me and the family in our van behind them, it's because they likely don't have insurance or a licensed driver and are doing everything they can to avoid being pulled over. Sorry if that pisses anyone off but I'm sure you've seen it. I'm sorry if I see Hemi rolling on 20's with a couple of brothers inside or a beat up F-Body with a couple shirtless Darrell and Darrells hanging out at the UDF on Murfield Drive, I'm not exactly going to think they are just stopping by for a drink on the way to the community pool near. Yeah, if I were a cop, I'd say they fit a profile that's not indicative of normal for the surroundings and likely observe their behavior or perhaps go so far as to find a reason to pull them over and investigate further.

Yeah because the Genesis coupe cries out poor styling and quality appearance against it's competition in the 370Z :gtfo: http://media.caranddriver.com/images/12q1/436122/2013-hyundai-genesis-coupe-interior-photo-436188-s-1280x782.jpg http://autosapparel.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/2013-Nissan-370Z-Interior.jpg http://www.lincah.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/2013-Hyundai-Genesis-Coupe-Interior.jpg

I agree with your comments. The key to remember with Hyundai is that their cars aren't dead equals the likes of what the media and the public put it up against. What they are is that it's a way better value when that comparison is done. I've driven my friends Genesis R-Spec and it's a damn nice car. Especaily when you compare it to what an MKS or 5 Series or even a MBZ350 Sedan brings to table. He bought his 2012 with under 5k on the ODO for just over $40k when compatible BMW was a year older, had way more miles and cost $10k more.

Well said. I think Hyundai has done a fantastic job at overcoming the early on sigma's that they had early on. Just as Honda and many of the Japanese imports have done in terms of once being seen as just economy minded cars to what they are today which is more luxery/sport than economy. Not many here were driving when Acura launched in the US. I remember those days well. How dare an import take a shot at luxury and sport at the same time. How about Lexus...I would imagine a handful here were still crapping their pants when they launched too. The main difference is Acura and Lexus spawned from their lessor lines of cars whereas Hyundai decided to brand them all the same. I think what they have done that the others didn't is greatly accelerate the process. Jones hit that on the head earlier in this thread. The 6th Gen Sonata is way, way better than the 6th gen Accord ever was. I owned a 7th gen accord and the 6th gen Sonata kills it. In fact, today, the 8th generation Accord faces serious competition when compared to the Sonata today. IMO, the Koreans have a way nicer styled and in touch with consumer car than Honda.

Sounds like a large number of American cars over the past two decades.....less the great gas mileage portion. Similar to the issues the Grand Prix's have faced with thier transmissions or Honda with their 5spd issues? How about the cooling system sludge issues GM had with their 100k coolent? Have they ever fixed their steering rack issues from back in the 90's? Is the Northstar Engine or the new 3.6l tops in their class for reliability? Didn't they ditch the bullet proof 3.8l vs Nissan who's VQ still lives on strong? We could trade stories all day.

Gabe is being trolled by his cable company :gabe:

My bad. 1999. Still stronger than a cavy. Not to mention the cavalier has had the worst fucking crash test results for years. http://www.edmunds.com/hyundai/elantra/1999/reliability.html I'd Still think you're nuts.

In terms of cops being aggressive on searches, IMO rightfully so. OU and any college campus like that usually has a different profile of people driving around on a Saturday night than say downtown Hilliard. Let's not be dumb shall we. Our families are on the roads and we know what goes on at OU and on campuses across the nation.

I'll agree with you that the world isn't perfect and the odds role in favor of the bad guy. We often worry to much about the rights of those who are likely in the wrong because we feel the need to protect the masses of those who are innocent and hang that argument on rights and not wanting to give them up. The reason I don't care nor worry is I know I don't fit into the profile of someone who is going to be harassed nor do I put myself in that situation. Those that do can control their situation just the same but choose not to. That said, remember, this isn't a perfect world and if it takes a few guys getting pulled over for a burnt tail light or going 5mph over the limit and then being asked a few questions they don't know they shouldn't answer, then so be it. I say that as I'm in favor of giving cops and those like me that want the criminals caught, a bit of an edge in catching the bad guys. Even if it means some will be butt hurt because of it.

Not only would I say you're nuts, but so would some of the reviews. http://www.edmunds.com/hyundai/elantra/2009/reliability.html?sub=sedan http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliability.aspx?year=1998&make=Chevrolet&model=Cavalier&trimid=145

So I would imagine the officer pulled him over based on something she observed. Again, you won't easily convince me that the female LEO saw a kid on or near the OU party school campus likely in moms car, hence the reason for the baby on board sticker just innocently pull up to a light and then jumped for her lights to pull him over with absolutely no cause other than she felt she was preventing a race. Sorry, that doesn't make sense. None.
-
I'm with Hal on this one. If it happens all the time and people permit it, regardless of why, then it's their own damn fault. A LEO's job upon pulling you over isn't to help you do shit except get yourself in trouble. Thus why you don't say shit. I'd love to hear more about how these CR Members fought the situation in court as I would be very entertained to see the officer say they pulled them over for how they looked or just because of "what" they drove. There's more to both situations and I don't have to even pause to think about if there is or isn't. Both drivers had to permit the search. If you're telling me no that they didn't and weren't given and option and were still admitted that they were wronged, then again, I'd love to see their court details. If they didn't do anything, then they agreed to both being pulled over and being searched. As they say, either speak up or shut up. Sounds like they shut up.

You're being pretty vague on this Brian with on the victimized side of a story being told. I'm not saying people of all races aren't harassed, but more often than not there's a good reason. Cops are bored and just out to pick on someone because of it. Now in terms of past history, yeah, that's valid to me. Even back in 1991 RK was guilty as can be and fit his own profile pretty well, even as time went on. You know what, I would imagine that this first car is going to be looked at more closely than the second for what I would call some pretty good reasons. I bet you'd only have to follow him a couple blocks on a Saturday night as they leave C&C to figure out why too...and guess which one is owned by a black guy. not that it even matters. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/143912506 http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/123275752 Honestly, George was wrong and IMO guilty just like the others with him and that incident absolutely gave LEO the greater sense of common sesnse that shit goes on along 270. Perhaps since, with all the heightened awareness, a life or two has been saved by it too. About 3.5yrs too late for George though. In terms of F&F, yeah and again, were the cops wrong? Nope...every time I watch that movie I can picture a bone stock Civic LX or EX driving like they were stars in the movie. Shit was everywhere and drove me nuts. I'm sure it wasn't just for pulling up next to him. Again, me thinks there's a bit more to it than that.

I grew up in the car business. Parents had dealerships including a separate used car lot. I've seen plenty. I also own a 1997 Entourage with over 65k on the ODO. Bought 8 months old with 4k on the clock. 100k warranty and outside the dealer being a PIA, the car has been as solid if not better than our two previous Honda Oddessy's for $9,600 less. I really wanted to by another Honda but couldn't justify the cost outside it perhaps having a better resale. However, that's not guaranteed and I took my nearly $10k savings the day I took it home vs rolling the dice at the end. Actually you see a ton of older Hyundia elantra's and accents still running. Several here on CR even have had them and beat the shit out of them. Solid little cars. My neighbor has a 2008, never washes the damn thing and drives the piss out of it as a daily and it has been great for him. They are and Hyundia has put the warranty behind them to back it up. Even today, GM Hasn't kept up in that arena. Our van is 5yrs old and came with a 10yr/100k warranty on the power train and a 5/60k bumper to bumper. Most are 3/36. I don't even think Lexus gives that. IIRC they are 4/36. You're right, time will tell, but our van is still solid and again, they have backed it up since before the others did. http://www.edmunds.com/honda/accord/2007/reliability.html http://www.edmunds.com/hyundai/sonata/2007/reliability.html http://www.edmunds.com/honda/odyssey/2007/reliability.html?sub=minivan http://www.edmunds.com/hyundai/entourage/2007/reliability.html?sub=minivan&ps=used ^^ looks pretty similar if not better for the Koreans.

Gotcha. Similar to when I bought a Mophie case on one of mine previous iPhones for protection and watching movies when I flew across country more than I do now.

An officer isn't likely trying to search a car just because a guy has tats. Has it happened, likely, any number of things go down every day, but on a regular basis, I doubt it. They aren't going to waste their time unless they think they can make a bust and have something better to go on than just tats. I can't speak for those situations however, I've seen quite a variety of cars driven by all kinds of guys/kids and in many cases there are reasons a cop is going to pull a car over in order to get a better look at what the situation has to offer. Again, I doubt they are pulling over CR Guys just without some type of cause. Loud exhaust, speeding, broken lights, etc. By your comments they could have a field day when people roll in or out of Cars and Coffee, but they don't.

Your battery only lasted 2 yrs ? Wow, my wife's original iPhone from 2007 still works and holds a charge just fine. Kids play games and are rought on it just the same.
-
How are they not? 100k warranty, crash test ratings, styling, performance, etc....you pick the model. They are doing very well in a much more competitive market and doing it quicker than Honda did when they began to take on the domestics. They don't need to be the best to prove themselves. They are making leaps and bounds in terms of gains though and the competition is feeling it.
