Those Zotac boards are AWESOME! I have the one with the Atom processor and ION integrated graphics. I have ubuntu installed and use mythtv for a media center front end. It also does a bunch of other stuff.

That should make enough amperage at 5v to charge an ipod or a phone, just not as quickly as a wall outlet would do it. At the bare minimum, it should be able to keep a device running without draining the battery.

buy a 7805 regulator from radioshack for $1, do a bit of soldering, and it will convert that 12v to 5v. ipod uses usb so I know it will take 5v, and your phone may take it too, so go for 5v.
