I don't know, it was a weird situation. I figured it would render a secondary but thought there was an outside chance it wouldn't. They made the video for Ezekiel to watch when he came to Columbus because they were in New Orleans for the Final Four. He watched it on campus where, had they not been in New Orleans, he would have met them anyways. I know you can't send a video to a recruit obviously but thought (as they probably did) that if they were on campus any video from a university staff member was fine. Just more NCAA stupidity. Love how ESPN is running this on the bottom line as if OSU is going to get into some kind of trouble over this stuff though. And they don't even outline what the violations consist of.

The Gene Smith extension thing was a fake. Someone just posted the same press release from a few years ago when he got an actual extension. That being said, I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon. Everyone kept saying February, then the BOT were going to have a meeting about it in March or sometime in the spring... here we are almost to June and he's still here.

Well I just hope they can get the replying to parents' texts asking for directions under control. Thank goodness monsters like Doc Tressel aren't around anymore to do that.

Here's a list of some of the self-reported secondary NCAA violations OSU has committed since Tressel was fired... Football coach Urban Meyer said "Good luck," to recruit Noah Spence before his state championship game in Pennsylvania in December. Contact like that with Spence, on his game day, is forbidden. Athletic director Gene Smith and alumni association CEO Archie Griffin recorded a personalized video for football recruit Ezekiel Elliott for his official campus visit on March 31. Recruiting videos are forbidden. Assistant football coach Mike Vrabel used chewing tobacco on the sidelines during games, which was reported to Ohio State anonymously by an area health teacher. NCAA rules forbid tobacco use during games or practices. Greg Paulus, the basketball team's video coordinator, was reported to be coaching players during the Buckeyes' Big Ten Tournament semifinal win over Michigan on March 10. Video coordinators, who aren't full assistants, may not coach players. The violation was discovered after a general conversation between an OSU player's parent and an assistant athletic director. Last August, quality control football staffer Kirk Barton, a former OSU offensive lineman, created and ordered 20 "JT" bracelets for $5 each online to honor former coach Jim Tressel. He intended them for friends and family, but several players asked Barton about the bracelets. He sold seven players the bracelets for $15, charging that amount in an attempt to make sure no violation was committed, knowing that giving them out for free would be an NCAA violation. But selling them still was deemed a violation because players had access to something not available to the general public. The players returned the bracelets. Assistant coach Stan Drayton last July accidentally sent a text message to a recruit when he meant to send an email. Emails were permissible. Text messages were not. On Aug. 20, assistant coach Dick Tressel responded to a text message from the parents of recruit Warren Ball asking which gate to use to enter Ohio Stadium for a scrimmage. Texting the parents of a recruit was a violation. In December of 2010, five current football players took five recruits on OSU visits to a movie. NCAA rules allow each recruit $60 in spending money for entertainment. A cab ride to the movie put each recruit between $1 and $5 over budget, which the football players paid out of pocket. That was not allowed because the $60 limit was exceeded. The school realized that during three days of the football team's Rose Bowl trip from Dec. 26, 2009, to Jan. 2, 2010, the players received both a $15 per diem and breakfast. That pushed them over the allowable three meals of $45 per diem. NCAA... :dumb:

Yeah, gotta think Barkley will get a lot of love.
-
Knew I had seen that guy somewhere before...lol

Yeah, as OSU fans we have to hate on Shane but you know we'd love that kid if he was ours. Just like a ton of people love Urban now after hating him at Florida. And you're right about the 2014 class being weak in Ohio. But the coaches are out on the road doing work right now nationally.
-
Also, the 2014 class is going to be the first real class this staff will have put together. 2012 class they did a magnificent job of scrambling to finish in the top 5 in the country. Things have been maybe bumpier than expected with the 2013 class but you have to realize they had a lot of catching up to do with these kids. Supposedly the recruiting databases that the old staff had for 2013 and beyond were pathetic. So this new staff has had to basically start from scratch there and then you've already lost out on a 5-star kid in your own state like Dymonte Thomas because the old staff simply fucked that up royally. They're still trying with him and he hasn't told them to stop recruiting him like Kyle Kalis did when Urban called right after his intro press conference but it's a no shot until Dymonte decides to maybe sneak over to OSU to visit his cousin Brionte. But the 2014 class... tons of offers going out right now, lots of big-time kids loving OSU, the relationships will be in place, the information will be there... that class will be right around #1 in the country.
-
The class numbers are so back and forth right now it's crazy. Middle of winter conditioning people expected a lot of attrition. Towards the end of that/start of spring ball people expected no more. End of spring ball people expected a little bit more. No idea right now. I do know that Meyer/Herman have said they want to have something like 8-12 (somewhere in there, think it's 8-10 or 10-12) explosive playmakers on the roster at WR positions and they said they only have maybe 6 right now.

Had been getting this strange feeling that Anzalone would end up back with OSU after all of this blew over and now that's starting to be the feeling of others as well. As I suspected, this whole strange situation led to a better understanding of each other by the Anzalone's and Urban/the staff. Apparently OSU is recruiting Anzalone as hard or harder than at any point previously in his recruitment and there is almost constant contact between Alex, his family and the staff. Back and forth. Also, something I was hoping for but not expecting... Robert Foster seems to be back in the picture. A few teams pulled their offers to him after word of his disrespectful behavior on his OSU visit got around (OSU and Michigan for sure) and teams were wondering how he'd react. Either be humbled and correct any issues or just say fuck it, I have offers from everyone else. Apparently Foster has gone with option A and he may once again have an offer from OSU sitting on the table. Shelton Gibson is basically in for OSU so getting Foster and maybe Quick out of KY would be awesome as the offense OSU wants to run moving forward thrives with those types of WR's.

@TIM_MAYsports When I asked Joey Bosa about Waugh Fri: "I’m not going to let a stupid little weirdo like that define Ohio State to me." Love me some Bosa. In a non-pedophile way.
-
Sounds like it was an easy out for his parents.
-
Sammy Watkins. Dude was a beast this year. And yeah, ND and Florida are definitely possibilities. ND with Heuerman who was big in recruiting him to OSU there now and Florida where a lot of people thought he was going for a while anyways. Only reason some people think he canceled a Florida visit at the last minute and decided to come to OSU's spring game was because they have 4 LB's already committed.
-
So yeah, a lot more shit came out regarding this. 100% due to the sex offender asshole. Dad is definitely a nutcase but he started backtracking for the article on ESPN's FRONT PAGE right now...lol. People said when his parents found out who that guy was that they "went through the roof" so maybe it was just a crazy initial reaction and Urban can get back in on him if he wants to. And it would completely invalidate the father's reasoning here if he ended up at Penn St. MY SON ENDED UP IN A PICTURE WITH A RANDOM GUY WHO HAPPENS TO BE A REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER. TIME FOR HIM TO GO TO A SCHOOL WHICH EMPLOYED AND POSSIBLY COVERED UP AN ASSISTANT COACH'S MOLESTATION/RAPE OF CHILDREN IN TEAM FACILITIES. :lolguy:
-
So Alex Anzalone decommitted. Have to think it's related to that disgusting sex offender asshole. Not sure how the kid or his parents can blame the school but whatever.
-
Given that he reportedly shot himself in the chest, gotta think it's CTE-related. Like Dave Duerson a few years ago, shot himself in the chest to preserve his brain for CTE study.
-
Yeah, Neal let it be known that he was going to look around (LSU specifically since they just offered him) and Urban's policy as long as he's been a HC has been if you're going to look around, we're going to look around. Pretty simple.
-
Lewis Neal out of NC is no longer a commit. Meyer basically told him his scholarship is open now after Neal got involved with LSU.
-
Brewster messed up by coming back. Loyal to a fault. Also screwed up by firing his agent right before the combine and hiring a new guy who didn't quite know what he was doing. Withers visited McNeil on Friday and McNeil tweeted that he was excited for that. Now sounds like he may have committed. He might be better than Heuerman. Just weird losing probably 2 brothers of current players to ND (Heuerman and Smith).
-
I don't know why he'd come to Columbus on Saturday and help recruit 2 top 200 players to OSU if he was just "playing the game." Everyone "close" to him in the recruiting process said "confused" wasn't a strong enough word to describe what he was going through. From all accounts he's a stand up kid and the reason he struggled so much with this decision was because he is not a kid who will be switching his commitment.
-
Mike told everyone on Saturday that he was committing to OSU. Apparently Scout (Bill Greene) even had the commitment article written with quotes from Mike and they were just waiting for his OK to post it...lol. So yeah, nevada had Heuerman to OSU on Saturday because basically Heuerman was committed to OSU on Saturday. In the end Mike just couldn't get around playing the same position at the same school as his brother. Not sure I get that but whatever. Marcus Baugh is great and I think OSU was actually scheduled to be at Josh McNeil's school today so maybe they get back in on him or maybe they just stick with 1 TE.
-
Sounds like Brian Bobek is transferring. Was the #1 C in the country coming out of HS but has had trouble putting on weight/strength. Should have been the starting center coming into this season but the new staff moved Linsley to center then true freshman Jacoby Boren passed him on the depth chart too.
-
Smith is definitely looking like ND for whatever reason. Heuerman was reportedly the biggest recruiter of Bosa and Anzalone and had told them and everyone else he was committing to OSU yesterday. Then Miami went to his school yesterday and spent a lot of time with him or his coach or whatever is allowed and now he's torn.
-
Heuerman now looking less likely...lol. Gotta love people trying to predict what teenagers are thinking. They've already got Baugh so if they really want another TE and Heuerman goes ND or Miami then maybe they can go back to the NC cookie jar and get back in on Josh McNeil (was supposed to be here for the spring game but was planning on riding up with Jamal Marcus then Marcus got a plane ticket instead and McNeil couldn't). Don't know if they need 2 but that's one way they could go. And definitely think they want 2 QB's. There will be more room. Bill Greene on Scout said a few weeks ago he thought the attrition was pretty much done and he didn't see many more leaving but over the past week or so now it seems there is more to be expected between now and February. Lots of kids simply being recruited over because they're just not good enough.
