These were done quickly with a point&shoot, only because I didn't see anyone else snapping pics of the peoples, and I thought we should have some photo evidence that CR actually can meet and not just stand around our cars. (small children were present at times, but I kept them pretty much out of the photos, out of courtesy to their parents) It was a beautiful day, and the advance scouts picked a great location: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/July%203rd%20CR%20cookout/intrees.jpg PLENTY of good food ...... Great work, Ryan. And I remember when you were just a noob at the detailing stuff.

And who says you're not good for anything? Yes, a nice linen bib, the lobster variety, should be supplied.

I would like to place my food order now so that I'm not kept waiting in line with the hoi polloi: Two frankfurters, mustard and a small amount of onions, fresh buns split only part-way One Angus burger on a sesame bun, cooked medium, grilled onion, thin slice of Colby cheese (not American or cheddar cheese), stone ground mustard 2 cups of kettle cooked salt and pepper potato chips, any brand is okay I'd like the plate to be Chinette, not one of those flimsy paper plates It would be most convenient if this were served within a minute or two after my arrival. The time hasn't been decided yet, but if you use spotters at points on Route 23, I'm sure you can work it out so that it's hot off the grill.

Great job, Brady, and an uberkewl car.

Welcome to CR, Kyle. You'll need to post some pics in order to get repped-in. Instructions for posting pics are in the stickies. :nopics: I hope you decide to follow-through and join. Lots going on in Columbus Racing.

Anyone interested in meeting at Hooters tonight? There's a classic cruise-in going on now (registration ends at 7) with trophies at 9 p.m. I'm on the fence about going ...... might stop by if CR folks were going to be around. http://www.oldride.com/events/3555482.html

I'd be surprised if any technique will guarantee that you won't have black widow spiders in a barn in Ohio. I found this on the Univ. of TN Agricultural Extension Service site and thought it might be helpful to you: Reducing black widow populations around structures involves two steps: 1. Changing the environment so it is less attractive to spiders. 2. Finding and destroying spiders. Use the following measures to control spiders around structures: • Eliminate spiders and discourage their return by routinely cleaning the house. Spiders, webs and egg sacs can be removed effectively with a vacuum cleaner, broom or duster such as a Webster. • Reduce clutter in closets, garages, basements, attics, crawl spaces and outbuildings to make these quiet, undisturbed areas less attractive to spiders. During this cleanup, it is helpful to wear protective clothing such as long sleeves, long pants, boot, gloves and a hat. A pest control technician was bitten when a spider ran under his glove and upon reaching a tight spot, stopped and bit the technician. A situation like this could possibly be avoided if gloves are taped to the sleeve and socks taped to the pants. • Use glue boards or sticky traps placed against edges near entry points into the structure (doors, windows, garage doors and crawlspace vents) to catch and detect spiders. • Inspect and clean outdoor shutters, placing an emphasis on the areas behind the shutters. CONTROL 10 Chemical Control: Since the vast majority of spiders and other arthropods are either harmless or beneficial, treat only if you have a black widow infestation. Apply insecticides to the habitats frequented by these spiders when you detect an infestation. Repeat the applications at intervals specified on the label as needed to eliminate the spider infestation. To further impede spider entry into the home, a barrier spray of insecticide can be applied around the base of the house and possible entry points such as door thresholds, garage and crawlspace entrances and foundation vents. Synthetic pyrethroids (bifenthrin, cypermethrin, cyfluthrin, deltamethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin,) can be applied and may need to be reapplied throughout the summer. Bayer Advanced Home Indoor and Outdoor Insect Killer (cyfluthrin) and Ortho Home Defense Perimeter and Indoor Insect Killer (bifenthrin) are available to the general public. Wettable powder or microencapsulated (“slow-release”) formulations are particularly effective. • Use yellow “bug” lights or sodium vapor lights to attract less insects and subsequently less spiders to the structure. • Spiders often congregate around the outdoor perimeter of a structure and tend to move indoors as winter approaches. Reduce migration indoors by moving firewood, building materials and debris away from the foundation. Trim or remove trees, vines or tee limbs from touching the side of the structure. • Black widows prefer closed, dark places such as water meter compartments and crawl spaces, so barriers constructed to inhibit entrance to these areas are of value. Seal possible entry points into the structure. Pipe penetrations through the foundation can be sealed with steel wool or copper mesh followed with an expandable foam. Caulking can also be used in these locations. Doors and windows can be sealed with weather stripping or door sweeps. Ensure window, crawlspace and vent screens are tight-fitting and without holes. See Extension PB1303, Managing Pests Around the Home, for more suggestions on pest-proofing the home. utextension.tennessee.edu/publications/Documents/PB1193.pdf The publication also suggested behaviors which help people avoid being bitten. It might be helpful to review those points with your family. This was also in the article: Black widow spiders are very numerous in nearly all parts of the U.S., but cases of reported bites are rare. For the most part, black widows live peacefully in close proximity to humans with little contact. Although both male and female black widow spiders are highly venomous, according to our knowledge, no reports of bites from the males have been recorded. I hope this was helpful.

Doc1647545523 replied to g35tonv's topic in Events
There were some interesting cars, ranging from Sawmill ricer to some nicely sorted out high end stuff. All-in-all, it was pretty mellow considering how crowded the place was. I spoke with about 30 people I knew from CR. -
I'll be at Five Guys shortly after 8. Catch y'all at HD later.

Looks like it'll be fun. I'll bring two VR6's. -
SloMo has their car show Sunday: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93125 as does Dave Gill: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93762 If the weather stays nice, I'm sure the belly brigade from CR will be getting together for a meal around 8 before cruising over to HD

Good to hear. We needed a few token skinny people. The group was beginning to look like a meeting of Overeaters Anonymous (with me as President).
-
Anyone up for this? It's dicey if we'll have sprinkles or not tonight, but some ribs on the patio at Quaker sounds pretty good to me at 7 p.m. or so. Feel free to join me. The jury's still out on whether there'll be anything on Sawmill tonight.

Welcome to CR, Paul. Good looking car ....... the only thing missing is the requisite Ross County mud on the tires, wheels, and lowers.

Bumping the thread, because there are 4 spots which have become available. (This is how the CR teams got into the Route 66 Rally last year.) Less than one month away: July 18th-21st The same group that hosted last summer's Route 66 Rally is putting on Rally Appalachia 2011. Here's the promo video for it (my half-second of fame comes at 0:37): http://www.youtube.com/user/RallyNor.../0/6G9qSXKhlqo We will also be meeting with Cale Yarborough on Day 3. Rally rules: http://forum.rallynorthamerica.com/v...php?f=12&t=262 Farkas and I are registered with the Bentley and Paul Michael (FyrhzrdGT) and his GF Nicky are registered with his diesel Mercedes. A bunch of you said, "If I'd only known about this, I would have gone for sure" and "Make sure you post a thread if they do this again." Well, here's your notice, bumped to the top at the last minute for good measure. PM me if you need more info or visit the website.

Anyone interested in a wood finishing project?
Doc1647545523 replied to Doc1647545523's topic in Dumpster
Hal, thanks for the offer. I've checked with a few antique restoration shops. Coup Restorations, who do piano finish restoration and repair, can do the work, but it's out of this world expensive. A few cabinet refinishers have said they're willing to try to do it, but don't guarantee results and admit that they haven't done this sort of thing before. I'm following up on a few new leads I got tonight. Kevin, PM sent. Cody, you've exceeded your daily post limit. -

Bump. Final chance. I've followed up with the recommendations that have been shared (thanks everyone), but I either don't hear back or find that no one has any lacquer experience. This is a small paint job, think along the lines of a wooden machinist's box, about 12" x 26" x 20". I need it sanded (it is a new, undamaged surface) and done in piano black lacquer. If you have a dust-free area, such as a paint booth, it would be easier. I'm not in a hurry for this, but need top quality work. Any takers? -
I'm not sure I'd even clean it. Purists really value that patina, and your rims have plenty. There's a car show this weekend at Dave Gill's, and I bet the judges will award you extra points if you leave your rims in the current condition.

I don't recommend using gas in them. Having had about a dozen or so diesel vehicles in my life, I got away from using terms such as gas pedal, gas mileage, gas gauge, gas tank, and so forth in reference to a diesel. I suppose it's too picky, but I notice that hard core diesel enthusiasts don't make the slip. Welcome to the club.
